I have an Infinity IL120S hooked up to an Onkyo 501 receiver. The sub seems to mimic some of the higher frequency noises but distorts them to the point of it just making noise. Its not very loud when it does this, but definitely very annoying. Is there some thing I can do about it, or do I need to bring it in to be fixed under warranty? Its been fixed once before and I wonder if it was messed up when the guy fixed it. Any information on what this distortion noise could be?

Thanks for the help :)

What kind of fronts and center do you have? Try changing your crossover on your reciever to 80hz and the crossover on the back of your subwoofer to it's highest setting.

tried that, still seems to make the noise, actually it may mimic the bass noise but then as a distorted sound...could it be the cable to the receiver?

I was a poor college kid until recently and am using a cheapish rca cable to hook up the sub. I also only have fronts, no center, they are some big, albeit crappy KLH speakers. My bigscreen and bass were the important things in college...

On your reciever insure that your speakers are set to small also, as this could be it. If the lower crossover didn't work, it's somewhat normal as some vocals are in that range. A cheap RCA cable should be fine for most situations, as long as it isn't too long. (10 ft<)

I'm currently using a cheap rca intended for car audio use, I'll switch that out with something eventually and see if it makes the problem go away. If not, the sub is going back to be fixed again.
