I put both my standard Xbox and my Xbox360 on my wireless network. I put Halo in both machines. I can initiate a Network game on either machine. The other machine can see the game over the network, but is unable to join it successfully.

Before I spend any more time trying to do this I thought Iwould ask if it is possible to do this, or am I just spinning my wheels.

I have had an Xbox and a 360 system-linked at my house with Halo2, so I know it's possible. I think I had to use a hub though becuase there may have actually been 2 Xboxes and one 360... I can't remember. Anyway, it is possible - I can't remember if you're supposed to use a crossover cable or a regular ethernet cable - but your're using wireless, so that may not matter.

I have played system link between a xbox and a 360 wired so it should be possible. But i imagine its quite a bit more complicated over a wireless network.

It could also be because of the router, because i remember having the same issue with specific brands.

I haven't tried Halo 2, but I play Star Wars Battlefront II and Crimson Skies locally with my son. He's on an Xbox upstairs and I'm on a 360 downstairs. I use a D-Link wireless router. The 360 is connected wirelessly and the xbox is wired to the router. I haven't tried connecting the Xbox wirelessly, but I would think it would work. I have the Xbox wired to the router because the Xbox and the router are both in the same room.

The only thing special I remember doing is giving static IP addresses to all of my game systems. I had to do this, for some reason that I can't remember, to get the Wii online.

I have two 360's and one xbox linked together without any problems. I have them all wired to a hub which is connected to a router. The only problems I have are if one machine has a xbl update, all need the update to play. You might need to play with your routers firewall settings, but you should have no problems. Can you connect to live?

Thanks to all who have responded.

I have had the 360 connected to Live with no problems. I haven't tried with the Xbox, but I doubt that there would be any problems. Both machines can see a network game that has been initiated on the other, but when I try to join the game it says the attemp failed.

What is an xbl update? The 360 required an update from Live before it would play Halo. Is that the xbl update? If so the regular Xbox doesn't have it because I haven't tried to establish a Live account for it. Is there any other way to get the update?

thanks

I think you can make a free silver account to get the updates. There is a 360 backward compatible update, but also many games need a small patch to play online. All machines that play need to have the same patch. What you are describing is what happens when one is updated and the other is not. Either make a silver account or sign in on your regular account on the old xbox and try to go online. It usually will download a small patch. After that, you should be good to go. Let me know if you have any more problems.
