One of my controllers was eating batteries really fast so I got the play and charge kit for it. I noticed that even when I turn it off, the green ring around the X on the controller is still faintly lit up. I'm guessing that's why it kills batteries so fast. Is there anything to do other than just remove the battery every time I'm done with it?

Nope, nothing you can do. I installed blue and red leds in some of my controllers and its even brighter.

Odd, I never noticed this.

Are you powering down by pressing the guide button on the controller and shutting the system down in there? Or are you pressing the power button on the system which possibly could leave a controller on?

Controller should turn off when you turn the system off. My controllers definitely do not stay on after I turn the system off, no matter how I turn it off. I would try another controller w/ the system, just to start troubleshooting there. If another controller syncs up and turns off fine, then its probably your controller.

It doesn't matter how I turn it off, it still stays slightly lit up. I can even take the battery out and put it back in and it lights back up. My other controller with a rechargeable battery works just fine. I even swapped batteries and the first controller lit up with the other battery and the second controller worked as it's supposed to. I'm guessing the original controller somehow is still draining power from the battery. I have no clue how to fix it though.

warranty replacement. Just call MS.

You should easily get a few weeks out of batteries. I us NiMH, game a few hours a day, probably get 2-3 weeks out of them.
