I know there have been reliability issues with this model but I'm looking for opinions on it's picture quality compared to the current 720p projector class. For example how would it's PQ rank compared to projector central's top 10 720p projectors? I assume the PE8720 would be at the top of the list in the PQ dept but where would the HD7100 fall compared to the rest? Thanks.
1. Panasonic PT-AX100U
2. Mitsubishi HD1000U
3. Sanyo PLV-Z5
4. Optoma HD70
5. Mitsubishi HC1500
6. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 400
7. Sony VPL-HS60
8. Optoma HD72
9. Mitsubishi HC3000U
10. BenQ PE8720
I have not had/seen any pj on the list; however, the Hd7100 has a gorgeous picture. Very detailed and sharp and great clour.
Per reviews, the PQ of the HD7100 compares well to the PE8720 and its optics are tops. I have had one for a year now and I am very happy with its PQ.

There have been complaints about the 7100, mostly that sometimes the bulb does not fire. But I've read only raves about the PQ. I have a 7100 and I can't imagine a reason to upgrade to a 1080p at this point, the picture is that good. It's probably a combination of the darkchip 3 module and great optics. Don't know if any of the pjs on your list have the darkchip 3, maybe the Benq.

I also have the HD7100 and the images are breathtaking. Watched episode 2 of Planet Earth last night and I almost felt like I could walk through the screen and climb the mountains. :)
This projector needs almost no tweaking straight out of the box. Sharpness is superb corner to corner and edge to edge. Same with CR and shadow detail. I've had the Infocus X1, Optoma H31, H57, H78DC3 and now the HD7100 and it is by far the best of the units that I've owned.
