View Full Version : What do you use/own for Vintage Receivers?
Jeremy112 06-18-07, 11:34 AM Hello all! I thought it would be kind of fun to learn who has what for vintage audio here.
What is your preference for vintage audio equipment? Your favorite model/brand from the "Receiver Power Wars" Era.
Why do you use vintage equipment?
:D
I will start this off...
I have 2 Pioneer SX-1280 Receivers from 1978 Both in near immaculate condition. Rated at a whopping 185WPC into 8 ohms with no more than .001% Total Harmonic Distortion.
Also I have owned 3 Kenwood KR-9600 Stereo Receivers Rated at 160WPC into an 8 ohm load with no more than .003% Total Harmonic Distortion.
BEAT THAT MODERN HOME THEATER STEREOS!
Now im not saying im not a fan of HT Receivers, I myself own 2 HT Receivers and indeed are awesome for movies games TV etc... But there is just that *something* that HT Receivers just dont have!
I've been going after another Vintage Beast: Pioneer SX-1980 Rated at 270WPC into an 8 ohm load with no more than .001% THD, OR the Marantz 2600 rated at a phenomenal 300WPC into 8 0hm load with no more than .001% THD
Whats YOUR favorite Vintage receiver? Favorite amp? :D
I hope this thread brings a lot of interest!
thehamsterman 06-18-07, 01:38 PM i had my dads old pioneer SX-8100 i think...but some capacator blew out so that sucked...
Now i have a NAD 3020A integrated amp with matching tuner and a pair of KEF 103/3's with the KUBE. Not much power from the amp, but they sound great, wouldn't sell for anything.
PooperScooper 06-18-07, 04:37 PM How can they be vintage if they don't have tubes? :) I remember back in the early 70's my friends brother brought him back a Sansui quad receiver from one of his stopovers on the way home from Vietnam. It was the only quad capable piece of audio gear I ever remember seeing.

Jeremy112 06-18-07, 05:33 PM Tube is the only way to go for vintage;) though its so expensive! But, if you have the cash for it its worth it;)
whoaru99 06-18-07, 07:07 PM The only vintage "monster" receiver I've had was the Sansui 9090DB. Wished I'd not sold it years ago - although I did sell it for roughly 6 or 7 times what I paid for it.
Looking at a SX-750 just because it's available - ~$40-$50, but I really have no use for it.
EDIT: The guy who has the SX-750 is just using it for the tuner via the REC OUT jacks. I have a Sansui TU-S33 tuner that I may see if he'll trade straight up for. It'll fit better in his stack than the SX-750, and he was just voicing that issue Friday night.
lastplace 06-24-07, 04:28 PM I have a Kenwood KA-3500 intergrated amp with matching turner in my garage. It sounds great

whoops it's SA-940
Still using a Sansui G-7500 (90wpc) and have a Sansui Quad reciever set up in the garage.
Audio Karma is the site for all vintage audio: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php
jacksonwalker 06-25-07, 07:34 AM A couple of NAD 2200's bridged and bi-wired into each channel with Snell J-3's (so each mono-blocked amp is about 400 watts). Right now I am using a NAD pre-amp/tuner 1600 because of it's outstanding phono pre-amp.
TurboFC3S 06-25-07, 04:53 PM I have a mint Tandberg TR2045 that was fun for awhile, but no longer has a place anywhere ... would sell it cheap if somebody here wants it.
ggoebel 06-28-07, 12:24 PM Marantz 2252B receiver and 1060 integrated amp connected to Sansui SP-2000 speakers, that are about to be recapped. Why? Because you can't beat that 70's sound from this stuff and that "Blue Light" is way too cool!
buddahead 06-28-07, 05:51 PM I have a Marnatz 2245 and 2 - 2230s.They all sound great.A decent TT with a Marantz is really hard to beat.Their is no classier look than a Vintage Marantz.BOB
I use a Harmon Kardon 430 Twin Power (Solid State) Receiver. It's only rated for 20WPC, but I have read that this number is pretty conservative. It still gets very loud at 50%. It was in near mint condition and very lightly used by my dad.
A lot of people seem to rave about this receiver on the Klipsch forums and rave about pairing them with Hereseys. I use these with Boston Acoustic CR67 mains for Fronts and a JBL PS120 sub for my simple bedroom PC sound setup. The Vintage HK430 blows away my previous HT 5.1 Onkyo receiver I was using :)

The was my first receiver! Bought it at Clark AFB in the Phillipines back in 1970. Sure wish I still had it!
Andy Lammer 07-15-07, 11:50 PM I picked up a Sansui 9090DB for my home-office area.
