View Full Version : TNT-HD problems?

I started to know some issues with my TNT-HD feed when watching Hitch on Friday. I definitely noticed it on Saturday during "The Replacements" as well. There was some weird blue/red pixelation issues that followed fast moves. I thought this was something with my box/feed/etc, but it appears it's a general problem that was happening during yesterday's NASCAR race.

I just flipped on the channel today and even noticed it happening on Law and Order (or whatever was on). Are other people having this issue? Do we have any word from TNT on it? This is certainly something new for me.

Thanks,
Chris

The NASCAR race yesterday looked like **** with pixelation and blocking EVERYWHERE! Today, my wife is watching The Closer marathon and keeps complaining of audio dropouts and messed up picture.

TNT HD = unwatchable

Saw same yesterday at the cup race as well with D*. A first for me. Am I correct that the red/blue patches are what is known as pixelation??? If so then what is blocking???..

Thanks for the help.

That's discouraging, especially with the new season starting tonight. :(

Just to clarify, this is a BRAND NEW problem for me. In the past, TNT-HD has looked great. I remember watching a beautiful broadcast of Titantic a couple weeks ago.

It sounds like others are having the same issues as I am at the moment. I guess it's about time to call them.

TNT HD is total crap. I gave up on them awhile ago. The only time I watch is when they air NBA games.

They stretch many movies from 4:3 to 16:9 and it looks like crap and, for me at least, the audio on over half of the movies on TNT HD is off from the video broadcast.

Occassionally movies like Titanic do look great. I really enjoyed Signs a few weeks ago. I thought Gladiator looked AMAZING but the audio was out of sync and EXTREMELY annoying. I watched about 10 minutes and then turned to something else. I did occasionally turn back because I love the movie and it looked so freaking good, but the audio sync issue just drives me crazy :o

<sigh> I'm not posting about the stretch crap or lips sync issues. I'm posting about new, severe red/blue pixelation on high motion shots.

I saw it on E* especially as the cars were leaving the pits and the tool boxes and pit banners flashed by as they were focusing on the cars. It reminded me of the way the green screens use to flicker on the local weather.

You're seeing motion artifacts as do I. Someone more technical than I (an ant would qualify) would have to explain why it is prevalent with HD sports footage but not a movie. I just know that your observation is consistent with my viewing experience.

A good example:
NBC's HD coverage of the Kentucky Derby is full of motion artifacts for the live broadcast (via OTA). However, when they cut away from the live action to play a previously-recorded, movie-like segment (also in HD) that gives us the background of a given horse / trainer, that segment is artifact free.

With both of my plasma sets (2006 generation HD Pany and 2003 generation ED Pany), I always notice motion artifacts during sports coverage on NBC HD, Universal HD, TNT-HD and even CBS HD. Movies and drama shows don't have the problem. On the other hand, Fox HD was flawless for NASCAR as is ESPN2HD.

Is it a 720p vs. 1080i thing? Is it a delivery issue (DBS vs. OTA vs. cable, MPEG-2 vs. MPEG-4, etc.)? Is it my equipment.

I haven't a clue; I just know it sucks.

It seems a little different than the motion artifacts I am used to seeing. Normally on fast sweeping scenes the whole background would turn into a pixellated mess. What I saw Sunday was just the red and blue portions of the tool boxes and background banners etc.

I noticed the same thing during the race, red and green splotches. It seemed to be more prevalent when their cameras were zoomed in. I turned the color up on my tv just to see what was going on and their was alot of pixelation visible. Just looked like an over compressed single. Of course the majority of TNT does, maybe just more visible outdoors with fast action and bright colors.

I don't watch NASCAR, but do watch TNTHD for other things... and the last several days I have seen these problems. It looks like tint turned way up or too much contrast... the reds are bleeding like they are cranked up whether there is fast motion in a scene or not.

Watching Remember the Titans a few nights ago, the numbers on the backs of players' jerseys looked like bicycle reflectors!

I only see this on TNTHD... and it is a pretty recent thing, like the last week maybe. Since it is happening on multi-providers (Dish, DirecTV, cable) it must be a TNT problem.

 TNT HD still having audio dropouts and "glitchy" video. No red/blue pixilation issues. I am sooo sorry to make you read a paragraph on my rantings on how much I dislike TNT HD (tic)

OK - sounds like exactly what I'm seeing. Hopefully they have it fixed soon!

Sorry if I came off a little rude - didn't get enough sleep. :) But, I do feel your pain on these other issues.

Between the lip-synch issues they already were having, then the camera issues during the NBA playoffs... not the splotchy image... makes you wonder if some major piece of equipment is just about on its last legs and one night we will have no TNTHD at all while they have to fix everything suddenly!

We can only hope something breaks completely, they seem to be running in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mode :D
