There are a few of them recently announced in Japan at very high prices, but I have no clue if (or when) they will be released in the US:

Here (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/06/12/toshibas-vardia-rd-a600-hd-dvd-recorder-with-600gb-disk/) is another article about an HD-DVD Recorder from Toshiba. Who knows if and when such units make their way here?

Upconvert? Upconvert HD to ???

BTW, as to when these will be available in the USA, my guess is NEVER, at least if the movie studios and networks have anything to say about it, and they do.

AFAIK all HD-DVD and BD players upconvert SD, so I wondered why anyone would even ask that question.

Correct, upconvert over HDMI only.

However not even close in PQ, as compared to 720p, 1080i or 1080p. :D

Ah true, and I believe that the PS3 just got a firmware upgrade in the last couple of weeks to allow upconverting of SD DVD's before that it was all 480p...so it was a valid question...if you consider a gaming console an adequate player.
