After reading about the Oppo DV-981HD on this site I decided to go ahead and purchase one last week. I have a Toshiba 62" DLP, model number is 62-HM196.

Fortunately I have not experienced any problems with the Macroblocking issue I have read about concerning DLP's. The picture is beautiful.

My question is this however...I can not get the player to go past 720P. I push the HDMI button on the remote and when it reaches 720P I'm stuck basically. If I continue to push the button a circle with a slash thru it (Like a "no smoking" sign) pops up.

Any suggestions, or is this as far as it will go? My TV supports 1080, so I would like to utilize that if possible.

Have you tried to change it with the player stopped? Oppo's wont change resolutions unless the player is stopped.

Stopped with no disc in player if I remember correctly. Go in the set-up menu and increase it to 1080. I had to do that to play SACDs

It should change resolutions even with a disc in the tray. It just needs to be stopped.

Still no dice guys. Any other suggestions?
