Looking for a dvd player to go along with a Samsung TX-R2779H 27" TV (http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/ArchivedTelevisions/TXR2779HKXXAA.asp) .

But I have alot of questions.

I have been using a cheapo Cyberhome dvd player for ~1.5 yrs via component cable. I need to move the dvd player to another location so I will need to get a new one to replace it. I'd like to take advantage of the HDMI if the quality will be that much better.

Looking to spend no more than $100.00.
HDMI prefferably
Needs to be able to play as many different types of dvd's as possible (DVDr's, etc. )

The tv says it's 1080i and I have no idea what the differnce is in that and 1080p or 720. I don't know anythign about upconverting, etc. I just wnat some suggestions that will give me the best picture possible but still meet my above needs.
BTW this is not any kind of HT setup. Just a TV and DVD player. Well, I also have a tivo but that shouldn't matter.

So please suggest something ASAP. I've already moved the old dvd player so I have nothing in there now.

Yes, the Philips DVP5982 sounds like a perfect choice.

I'll take a look at it. thanks.

Also, I'll run a quick search but anyone have a link for a 6 ft. hdmi cable? Just a good quality one, not Monster cable, etc. that will cost as much as the player.

Double ditto, and you can hang a Hard Drive off it to make a music, movie jukebox. Check out Episode 3 of my podcast for a quick how to.

Bad news. Just got home from work and had a thought to measure the "compartment" in our armoire (sp?) and the phillpis will not fit. I only have appr. 15.5" of width. And our tv is the slim fit design or wahtever Samsung calls it so the player can't fit on top.

I may call jr to cancel but since I ordered it so early it may have already shipped.

Has anyone used something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Get-Organized-SINGLE-TOP-SHELF/dp/B00024JPL4

I need to either get this or possibly build a tv support that has a cubby hole big enough for the dvd player.
Obviously buying the above item would be easier/cheaper. Any otehr ideas?

I have a similar shelf for my center channel speaker. It's on my DLP, which has a pretty steep angle on the back, but it's held up fine.

Thanks Tulpa. Do you know the manufacturer of yours?

I also ran across this one.
http://www.sanus.com/us/en/products/ProductDetails/line/Adapters/pcat/TvTopShelves/modelCode/TVS/layout/layout/
I called sanus a minute ago and the guy looked up my tv. He said it would be close. He said the "feet" might not extend down far enough to make contact.
I saw that they sell them at best buy. I guess I could always get one and take it back if it didn't work out.

I know it's hard to envision but does anyone think the sanus stand will work with the tv in my first post?

Mine was made by Omnimount. They're around $30 from Amazon.

Hey, a real cool podcast - "Philips DVP5960 review, How to build the Poor Man's Movie Jukebox" (http://realht.info/EpisodePages/EP003.html).
One thing though, your "Fair Use Wizard" link points to the HD enclosure. ;)

Thank you so much, that really helps. Can I trouble you for soem additional info? Can you measure the distance in between the legs as well as how long the legs will extend to? If it's trouble do not worry about it. I think that it will work I just hate paying 30 on top of what I've spent on the dvd player and hdmi cable if it won't work.

thanks again.

Sure. The width between the legs is about 11 inches.

I have mine set at 10 inches in height, and I think that's about as far as they go. They might have a little more height, but I can't remember from when I set it up. They come with two different sets of legs (the long extensions in the pick, and two very short ones.) They also have adhesive pads, one for each leg and two for where the shelf sits on the front of the TV.

If you get them at CC, they fall in the 30 day return policy.

thanks again. I may go pick one up tomorrow. The issue for me would be that the back of my tv is rounded off from side to side so I'm not sure if the feet would make it stable.
