I just moved to a new place, which is downtown and I'm on the top floor. I've come to believe that a radio tower is on my roof and causing interference with my receiver.

My question is if I buy a better shielded cable for my subwoofer, will the problem stop? I wanted to ask before spending more on a better one. I'd say my current one is middle-grade quality. It is a Monster Standard Interlink 100 shielded cable.

If you don't think a better shielded cable will help, what else might the problem be?

Thanks for your help!

Here's the issue:

I have a JVC receiver and a Velodyne 10" subwoofer. The system worked fine before moving, which makes me believe it is an interference issue here. My subwoofer has a left-right RCA input and my receiver has a single sub-out RCA jack. I use a y adapter to take the single sub channel from the receiver to go in the sub.

As long as my receiver is on, and at least at volume 1 (it goes away if at volume 0) I can hear a radio station playing through my subwoofer. It is so loud that I originally thought a neighbor was having a party. The volume this radio station plays at is the same no matter what volume I set the receiver at. I determined which radio station is playing through my sub, though I don't see this as helping...just proving that it is a radio station causing the interference.

Now if I remove the y-adapter and connect just the left RCA jack to the receiver and the sub, the radio interference drops dramatically, as does the bass volume of my sub from the receiver. You can't even hear the interference unless you are right up on it. However, if I turn the bass up (to compensate for the loss of bass) I now hear a hum noise from my sub, something I've never gotten before. I'm wondering if this is just because only the left RCA cable is connected?

Does this prove that my y-adapter and sub woofer cable are not shielded well enough? If I buy a high-quality Monster shielded sub cable (with its own built in y-adapter) will the interference go away?
