I have a Westinghouse 37" 1080p LCD, 37w3. It has a low-end Genesis
chip set for the scaling/de-interlacing duties. It is not the best when it comes
to Hi Def cable 1080i -> 1080p deinterlacing. Ghosting is prevalent, as many
attest to in the Westy forum. So after doing a little research, I bought the Gefen
Home Theater Scaler (not being able to afford the VP's talked about in this
forum :) ). I figured I could always return it if it didn't improve anything.
But lo and behold, it does a really good job. No more ghosting. Cable looks
much better, both hi def and lo def. I am impressed and keeping it. And I get HDMI
switching for my PS3.

In case anyone was wondering.....
I tested the Blu-Ray version of Silicon Optix HD HQV BENCHMARK on my
PS3 -> Gefen HTS -> Westinghouse 37w3. I set the PS3 to output 1080i.
I could not test the Noise Reduction because the HTS does not have NR when
using HDMI, only component.
But it passed all the other tests perfectly!
The tests are:
Video Resolution Loss Test....20/20
Jaggies....20/20
Film Resolution Loss Test...25/25
Film Resolution Loss Test - Stadium....10/10
:cool:
What about 3:2, 2:2 and the rest of the pull down tests, how did they preform ?
I am looking for a cheep scaling / deinterlacing solution for 1080i and am hoping that the GEFEN scaler will deinterlace 1080i correct and then scale it down to 720p to output to my projector!

Thanks for the information. This is very interesting. Have you tried the SD version of the benchmarks to see how well it handles 480i?

This could resolve some of my problems, too. Don't want to pay $1K+ for a VP, and mostly need audio and video switching. Do you know if it takes audio from HDMI and outputs to audio coax? My idea was to hookup HDMI to the TV and digital coax to the receiver.

Sorry guys I don't have component cables to do 480i out
from the PS3. :(
Gefen does give you 30 days to try the HTS out before returning
it for a full refund.

I believe you can do this, from what the user manual says. :)

I am surprised by the tests above, as the Gefen I had did not pass those tests. Perhaps you have a newer firmware, although I would still like to see someone else confirm your results.

Yes I disabled 1080p and was using 1080i for the tests.
I have firmware 2.9.
