Hey,
I just got this sub 2 days ago, and its not turned up loud at all. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha RX-v661 that I bought the same day. I was showing my sister a few scenes in Serenity in HD and the sub was going fine, all of a sudden the bass just stopped. The power light comes on but no bass is heard. I tried different power outlets and connected an old, much smaller sub to the Yamaha and it did work and move air.
Obviously it seems that its the Paradim but this is my first setup with a sub like this and even a reciever of this type. I searched all over but I dont think I have it set wrong. I even waited until it was 100% cool in the rear but again when plugged in the power light comes on but no sound comes out period.

Time to call the place I got the sub from? :(

hate to say it but it sounds like your amp or driver died on you. but it could be just a loose wire. I have a pdr 12 that the driver went out on and it took paradigm and the place i bought it from almost 5 mo. to fix it. i'll not by a paradigm again. I went w/ hsu 3.3 and i have an svs 25-31 on it's way just for some extra oomph.

Thanks Ibisneau,
I have to take the sub back to them, they said if it failed they will just swap it out for me, hopefully its just a few minutes to look at and replace.

Is this a common occurence? As I get into this HT stuff I guess I need to ask how often parts fail. (I know that no true answer can be given) But can someone say "expect to replace part A more often than part B" or the sub is more prone to damage than regular speakers or the receiver has a typical life span of X years.

I'm in the computer business myself, so I fully understand parts breaking/dying but I am just wondering how AV equipment fairs for a lifecyle.

Did you calibrate your sub?

Sivadselim,
I did what the instructions said (also let the receiver do the mic calibration too); I had my GF adjust the settings while I listened as per the manual so I have to say that I did calibrate the sub (at least if that is what you mean).

I'm also new to all of this so I'm unsure if you mean something else. Once connected I followed the directions in both manuals. Beyond that nothing special was done and the volume overall still allowed for comments to each other without any strain to hear each other.
