Where is the digtal connection on the console. Stupid question huh? Well,,, my receiver should light up doly digital when it gets this signal and it does not. Am I wrong in that a digital format should have a digital connection? The XBOX does not have either an optical or coax connection for digital. Am I missing something here?

There's an optical port on the base of the A/V connector cable. Look near where the cable ties into the base part that plugs into the console. You'll see the port there.

True... if you have the component cable.

Are you talking about the original Xbox or the Xbox 360?
On the original Xbox, you need one of the aftermarket cables or connection boxes in order to be able to send digital optical audio out of the unit. On the Xbox 360, if you have the premium system, there is a plug for a digital optical audio connection on the base of the video cable (where it plugs into the Xbox 360).

I believe its also on the VGA connector, s-video connector and even the composite video connector, isn't it?

I have the hdmi going to the tv and the optical going to the amp. But you also need to go to the advanced options and select dts or DD. You need a movie in it to get this feature. I set it to dts. If the movie has dts, then great. If not, it just goes to 5.1 or 2.1 It works great.

... And this comment applies only to the Xbox 360 Elite.
I was wondering which one to...

There's a step-by-step guide on Dolby's website describing how to connect both the Xbox and Xbox 360 (no mention of Elite yet) with some diagrams that might be helpful. If you hit Dolby's website and search for "Xbox setup", you'll find it (I'd post the URL, but apparently I can't do that yet since I'm new).

Or you can just look at the AV cable closely and it becomes pretty self explanatory.

Exactly, if you have a cable with the optical jack and you have the required optical cable and your reciever has a plug for the optical cable, you just plug it in
not complicated =)
