Sounded distorted for my taste. As the Sub-12 is the same design, I'd say it would suffer fromt eh same issues. gts007 06-20-07, 12:02 PM I was just messing with a Sub-10 at best buy tonight, and I really was not found of it. Sounded distorted for my taste. As the Sub-12 is the same design, I'd say it would suffer fromt eh same issues. bad post. that's like saying "I saw a Sony XBR with some banding issues so all sony XBR's must have banding issues". I used to own a JBL sub10 after hearing it in BB and finding that it smoked the other subs next to it in terms of tightness/musicality (one of them being the Klipsch sub10). the only reason i dont still own it is because it didnt have great extension. just because the one you heard was messed up (not that surprising for best buy) doesnt mean they all are. utcpyro 06-20-07, 12:42 PM Truthfully, I would not be surprised if that one had some issues. While I was there I could never get the displayed sub-12 to even turn on, so that's probably a indicator of how abused they had been. To me that particular one sounded almost like it was trying to push too high of frequencies, and the crossover adjustment on that back wasn't doing a thing. The recever it was running off of (a H/K AVR 247) hadnt been setup with the OSD, so who knows what the crossover point there was. Amp sounded over driven and level had to be turn up almost all the way to match the mains volume level, so another sign that one may have been faulty. Reviews for it are fairly good, so dont take what I said as absolute. There is a good chance that the unit I was refering to was just defective/abused. When I was looking at it I was actually thinking about using two in a tri-sub setup, but that one just scared me away. It wasn't boomy at least, so that's a good sign. See if you can find a fresh one some where to play with and see how it sounds. |
