Hi.

I live in Montreal Canada and can't find this player anywhere. Ordering online is pricey so im looking for an alternative. So in terms of upscaling quality for a 720p plasma (Panny Px75) which other upscaling player would you recommend in the same price range?

Thanks!

The Sony NS75H is a bit less money and is well-reviewed. It gets a similar score to the Oppo 970 here: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi

Meijer had Sylvania DVL-1000F with Faroudja 12/06. The DVL-1000G does NOT have Faroudja but rather mediocre Zoran chipset. Neither passes DTS via SPDIF and only does Dolby Digital via SPDIF (if it matters to you).

Concur w/ Bill. The Sony NS75H is a great unit. If you don't need/care for the extra bells & whistles the Oppos have and just need a solid Region 1 player, the Sony is a great player at a great price.

If you have a Costco locally, you might also find the Sony there, although it is called the NS71. Minor cosmetic diffs, but the same internals as the 75H--plus it comes with an HDMI cable.

Philips 5982. US$70 at bestbuy. Costco has it for around $70 w/ HDMI cable. Similar PQ to Sony and Oppo970.
