Just purchased a Zenith DVB712 Upconverter for $50. Yes, for $50 bucks I know it's not going to be stellar, but I can always return it.

Anyway, just purchased the player and I recently purchased a Vizio L37. I haven't seen very many reviews and I only saw one thread from April when I searched here. Has anyone had any experience with this yet? I'm wondering if it will really make much difference with the picture or not.

Any opinons are much appreciated!

Just purchased the DVB712 to go along with my 37" Vizio. I am very impressed, gave it a test run with Star Wars Episode 3 and it was like watching a stroll through a candy store. For the first time ever I noticed the red lining on the inside of one persons cape. Colors were popping everywhere. Very nice.

Can someone tell me if this player (or any upconverting DVD player, for that matter) will output an upconverted signal via an HDMI to DVI adapter cable?

I've read some posts in other forums where people with DVI inputs on their displays have had trouble getting their players to output an upconverted signal. This doesn't make much sense to me, as I thought that DVI was functionally equivalent to HDMI, (with respect to video; no embedded audio via DVI of course), except for the smaller form factor connector.

I have a 1080i capable display, with a DVI only input. I'm hoping that for the folks that had problems, it was more of an issue with their TV not being 1080i+ capable than with the DVI input somehow defeating the upconverted signal.

It's supposed to work automatically, and I'm using an HDMI->DVI cable now. It handles all resolutions. But there could always be bugs in specific combinations of gear.

A gotcha is that the DVI port on the display must have HDCP, which is not always the case on older equipment.
