thinking of 22" maybe 24". Dell, Samsung or Viewsonic. Any suggestions and things I should be aware with different panels?

Look to be sure that they are HDCP comliant if you are wanting to watch HD-DVD or upscaled movies via HDMI or DVI. If you use the VGA you can get around that for now, until (if ever) they activate the ICT) I have a 20" Dell and love it!

pretty big price difference between 22 and 24.

there has been an acer on sale (22") for about 200 after rebate, it's a pretty good monitor.

be careful of samsung, some panels are great and some panels (even in the same model range) really suck.

but if you're looking at 24 inchers from dell, you might as well get a westinghouse 32" for the price.

Don't really care about hd-dvd. I have a big screen plasma and front projector for that. Mostly for PC gaming/ 360 from time to time. It's replacing and ageing Sony CRT that I just love for colors/contrast. Everytime I try the lcd route I end up just bringing them back and sticking with the Sony.

It seems 24" is a huge jump in price but I'm finding more native 1080p res panels at 24" so I'm not ruling out 24". 22 is really fine if I can find a good resoloution.

Acer....forget it, never again. Westinghouse I have not seen a lot of.

the only 22" i like better than the Acer is the samsung, but it seems like most of samsungs stuff is hit or miss because of different panels used, so i dont know if it's worth the risk.

my dad has a 19 wide samsung, and it's gorgeous, but he lucked out and got a good panel.

if you check the newegg reviews, all of the acer 22 inchers have 5 star average reviews.... i wouldnt completely rule them out. but if you want to spend $100 more or so for about the same 5* ratings, check out the samsung 226bw: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096

also, all 22" sorted by reviews.

if it were me, i'd get an acer for sure, best bang for the buck, that samsung might be a hair better, but not worth the price hike IMO, good luck with your choice. :)

i agree with the samsungs, total hit or miss. The dell's can be that way as well.

The Dell 2407 through Costco would be my suggestion. The price is decent and if you get one of the bad panels you could return it during the "try out" period.
The Dell also has the 3 year cross ship warranty.

I was looking at the new Acer 24's for $100 less..but will probably go Dell again(currently have a Dell 2005).

The new Viewsonic 2835wm for $100 more than the Dell would be my choice if I had the room for it.

I'm currently using a Dell 2007 now at work.

...why did you have to tell me about the 2835? You know I'm going to want it.

if i had the cash for a new pc monitor/console LCD this is what i'd pick. i have the 37" version of this currently for TV/360 and it's amazing.

buy.com has a 32" westy refurb for $479

Wouldn't a 1080p TV be much better as a PC monitor, provided the PC is somewhat up-to-date?

It seems like 1920x1080 is a better desktop resolution than 1366x768.

I'm also interested in upgrading from my current 17" monitor to a widescreen 22" monitor. Its a hard choice to make with so many monitors available. I've also read on the XBOX forums that the XBOX doesn't support 16:10 monitors. This has got me worried about which monitor to get. The Acer listed above seems like a good buy. But not really knowing how it will display games like Gears of War has got me very hesistant. If I knew it would display correctly then I would have had a new monitor by now.
