I have just watched a movie on Netflix on my laptop and with my laptop via HDMI connected to my FP. My thinking is I would rather have HD VOD so I could watch anything at anytime and not have to go rent something or buy something. Right now i would pay $10 a month for the service and 3-5 dollars per movie viewing. I am tired of buying discs most of which I ony watch 1-2 times. My dream scenario would also Involve new films at some point. What do you guys think of this and why?

I hope that HD VOD will one day equal the quality that we get today with BD or HD DVD, convenience is great but quality is why we are here.

I see a big future for downloading, and would have no problem paying a rental fee or flat fee (but hopefully not both).

If I were to have my wish, it would be none of the above.

My wish would be to have cost-effective mature universal players right now such that HDDVD and BR still push one another and ultimately it wouldnt sting the consumer if one of the media types were ultimately to die off.

This would be Ideal. I think if a dedicated settop box were involved with vod the quality issues would be nil. I too would like to have a new film like say 300 in my home the day it goes to theaters that would be most excellent. :)

If we can download the movies in under an hour and it is at least equal to current HD optical media quality in terms of sound and picture and I have the computing power to show these(I currently do not) and I have a two 5 TB hard drive(one for backup. I'd hate to lose all my movies at once) and not spend an arm and a leg for these drives. Then downloads sound good :D

Otherwise blu-ray is the choice !

VOD does not require you to wait for Downloaded movie. :)

I suppose I can wait a bit for it to buffer and start watching but who knows if it'll freeze because download speeds have slowed down or whatever.

I want to watch the movie at hd optical media quality. No compromises. It'd be nice if I can just stream the movie but I highly doubt my internet connection can handle between 12 mbps - 48 mbps of video plus lossless audio.
Especially when my brother comes over and connects to my wireless router and plays warcraft !!

If we're talking about those cable on demand things,I can't recall any time watching a movie without any issues! Talk about freeze ups,or what ever they are called, digital macro blocking! Can't rewind at times...Man what a pain in neck..

Give me a physical format,if it gives me a problem I can yell at some or,toss it right out the window...Allot less cheaper than throwing my cable box out the window..

Blu-ray only. I like having a tangible collection. I have no interest whatsoever in downloading or VOD.

I want something tangible that can be loaned to a friend or brought to their houses for enjoyment. Downloading or VOD will not work for my purposes.

BD only. Don't care about VOD or DL. I like having and owning the disks (or whatever Hard media) as for why BD only? whty do we bneed two tools that do the same thing.

I want the option to download the movie and extras, then I can do whatever I want with it. Of course I have the option to do this now but it's not legal.

HD DVD only for me.. I don't care for Blu Ray at all. However when download is ready, I will also use this function.

HD DVD plus download... maybe VOD eventually. Blu-Ray when they get their act together, release a player that won't be obsolete, Fox and MGM actually support the format, and when some of the HD DVD haters cut out the FUD bs. But the recent announcement of BD+ temporarily killed any hope of MichaelHDDVD going neutral this year.

Why would I want to limit the ways I can obtain HD movies?

Me too, the stupid Movie corporations are again trying to divide the world in several regions, so over here in Europe we always have to wait several months before we can watch the latest releases  I'm glad every movie is now released on x264 format ;)
