Is there a list of shows which are using Dolby Digital 5.1 encoding?

Thanks!

Sure that someone wil post a link, but I'm pretty sure most if not all network HD is sent 5.1. HD programming varies on most cable stations like Discovery, in terms of type of audio. TNT HD seems to always light up the 5.1 icon on my receiver.

Some local network affiliates do not pass the network 5.1, however. In my area, only the ABC and FOX affiliates do. Both NBC and CBS are sent 2-channel stereo.

Keep in mind some program audio may be flagged as DD 5.1 or set off your receiver when it isn't. Most network episodic dramas are mixed in 5.1, and a decent number of sporting events and music specials. The vast majority of TV however even on HD paths is still 2.0

Some networks (like Fox) and local stations synthesize 2.0 shows to 5.1.

The only way to really know (besides hearing it for yourself) is to look for an indication bug at the begining of the show. Usually CBS will put a 5.1 bug on their HD info graphic. Fox Sports does it too once in a while.

Yes and even this is sometimes only done when the 5.1 is sponsored.

My local ABC affiliate is always "sending" a 5.1 signal, although only primetime shows/sports/GMA appear to actually be in 5.1 (or a synthesized version). News, local and all ABC non-HD programming only comes thru the L/R/sub--no center or surrounds--yet my reciever still displays "5.1"

Most sitcoms are upmixed from stereo or Dolby Surround to 5.1. This can be demonstrated by unplugging the center channel on a 5.1 setup. You will still be able to hear some dialog on the L/R channels. Compare this to something with a proper 5.1 mix (CSI is a good choice) which will only have dialog in the center channel.
