I have a dilemma. I own a Pioneer Elite VSX-47 TX receiver which I really love but it has component switching only. I need some way to route all of my sources, (three HDMI, one component, one composite) and upconvert/process the video. I want to take advantage of all of the lossless audio options afforded with HD DVD and Blu Ray also. And, I want to be able to properly synch audio with video.
I have considered a new receiver like one of the Denons, Pioneers, Yamahas, or Onkyo but that would mean sacrificing my Elite. I have also considered a VP but I am not sure there are any that can fulfill my needs. Anyone who may have suggestions, please help.
Thanks in advance

You can get the new Onkyo receiver that has the Reon processor in it. That should be a good compromise.
Lou: that linked item will not pass 1.3 HDMI, it will not pass lossless audio either. It is nothing more than a video switcher and does no scaling/processing either.

I second this as a great suggestion, the Onkyo 875's or 905's should fit the bill. I just picked up a VP50 w/ a Yamaha 661, so that worked for me, but that will set you back at least 2.5k probably more. This way you can buy a VP in the future and have it feed into your Onkyo and have the best of both worlds.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think I will probably go for the Onkyo 875 and sacrifice my Elite.

Lou, do you know anything regarding the video quality of that piece of equipment? I'm in pretty much the same situation as the OP (as I would imagine many others are),and would like to somehow salvage my B&K receiver rather than switch to the 875.
The video processing capabilities of the Gefen are pretty limited when it comes to high-definition. It won't do IVTC on 1080i signals, for example.
It is not comparable to a Gennum or Silicon Optix solution.
