Hi, I'm new to the forum and need some help deciding between two subwoofers. Right now I have on loan a SPL1000r and it sounds pretty good but it leaves me yearning for more. I have been eying the axiom ep-500 and been thinking if it would be an upgrade to what i have now. My room is approximately 5500 cubic feet. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Go and audition the Definitive Technology Super Cubes. They are very good, fast and well built. I own the reference model and it's too much for my application! I tweeked the volume so that my wife did'nt leave me and it's still great! Look at these babies---you'll thank me later!

Budget? 5500 cubic feet is pretty large. I'd be looking at a pair of higher end HSU's or SVS's for a room that big.

thanks for the responses guys. Budget is $1200. Sorry, but HSU and SVS are out of the question because of their size. Couldn't get the wife's approval on the HSU VTF-3 HO :( . I have an oppurtunity to buy the spl1000r that i'm using right now, but am thinking if I should spend a little more and get the ep-500

You might want to take a look at ACI (http://www.audioc.com/speakers1/titanxl/titanxl.htm)'s Titan XL.

It's a strong performer in your price range and is 20x18.75x18.75

The Onix Rocket UFW-12 (http://www.**********/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=8.1) is a similar size and a bit cheaper as well.

The EP500 is an excellent sub, this would probably be my choice as well. This is the sub I really wanted before I purchased my HSU. The EP500 is what some people would call a sleeper sub.

The HSU VTF-3 HO's footprint is not that large compared to the SVS models. I was surprised at how small it was when I seen it for the first time.

SVS also make the cylinder subs with a smaller footprint.

Take into account that the HSU is relatively ugly to many wives or girlfriends.

I don't exactly like the HSU's look either. Lacks a certain look of class..

Yeah, I showed her a pic of the HSU and could tell already by the look on her face that it wasn't going to be joining the rest of my home theatre!

I think the Titan XL would be your best bet. I haven't heard it in person but ACI gets very good reviews from around here.
