I will have both ( I couldn't find a ps3 at bestbuy on tuesday). I don't have two copies of a dvd. Both the elite and the ps3 will connect to my 46" 1080P lcd via hdmi and sound to the receiver via optical. Has anyone tried to compare the quality of up conversion on each? Are they similar or is one better? I am format neutral and am not looking for a flame war. It is not either or, but instead the more the merrier. But I do want to know if one has an edge. Your thoughts?

This is purely subjective, but I prefer the upscaled output from my PS3 than from my Elite--there's something that I can't quite put my finger on that seems "cleaner" about it. I've got a 1080p Samsung DLP, and my PS3 and Elite (with HD-DVD add-on) are connected to it via HDMI; this was a few weeks ago, but most recently I've watched "Gladiator" and my Firefly DVD's on both to compare.

I own both, I have to give the edge to the PS3 as well.

Just to ask further, I hae the elite, ps3 and a HD-A20 (i dont have the 360 addon) I find the HD A20 does the best job of upconverting for film, but for video applications It seems to have some flaws in deinterlacing and I find the PS3 has a slight edge comparingly to the Elite on video apps. Mostly just TV shows and series on DVD that I have Like Scrubs etc.

I had both but never tried out the Elite's upconverting as it was loud compared to my PS3 for DVD playback. Just something to consider.
