I need to support both formats (Blu-ray and HD-DVD) in my Family room utilizing a Mitz WS-65909 Rear Projection TV. So I'm trying to decide which route to go:
1- LG Combo unit - is simple, one connection, one unit, ease of use, etc. (I loose HD-DVD features you all know about - which isn't a big deal for me as I can watch them in my HT). More expensive at $1300.00
2- Sony S300 and Toshiba units - deals with two connections and two units in the cabinet, etc. Less expensive at $900.00 or $1000.00 depending on which Toshiba unit I buy.
I have no experience with the LG. However, I currently have the Toshiba A1 HD-DVD and Panasonic Blu-ray players in my home theater and fully understand the strengths and weaknesses.
Any obvious issues I'm missing here (e.g. Sony S300 quality, LG playback quality with SD-DVD, etc.) because I need to make a decision ASAP?
Thanks
Actually I would like the answer to this as well.
I have the LG, and I'm very happy with it. It has a few quirks, but everything at this point probably does. Mostly I just like having only one device to play back both HD-DVD and BD discs. It also does a fairly good job upconverting standard DVD. But not quite as good as job as my Pioneer Elite DV-47A running through my DVDO VP-30 with deinterlacer card. So yes, I'm still using 2 players. But that's better than having to use 3.

Can you specify the quirks?
I'm thinking of getting either this one this fall or the Samsung dual player.

Mainly audio issues with the subwoofer channel when using the analog outs, and selecting "lossless" audio. There is a firmware update that's supposed to have addressed some of the units audio issues. However, I haven't messed with installing it because I'm currently simply using the digital coax out, and the DD/DTS tracks on the discs. Out of a hundred plus HD movies I've watched on the unit, only one has given me a problem. And after taking the disc out and putting it back in, it played flawlessly. I have had two other Netflix discs that wouldn't play, but that was a problem with the discs themselves.
I say you made it this long why not wait for their next gen dual player or better yet the new sammy coming? That's what I am doing... :)

Joerod,
I am looking to add a Dual Player and as you pointed out in your Post the next generation will be better.
So, can you share what are the names of the very best Dual Players and which ones should I Google to read about?
I have the Integra DVD Player now but it is not HD. So if I am going to upgrade I would like to try my best to Purchase a High-End Player only one time. I have waited this long so awhile longer is not going to make any difference.
Any one else have any info. on the High End Players ?
Thanks ahead for the Help in my Selection-Process: ;)

^^^
I believe at this point there is only the Samsung dual coming out this fall and the G2 LG as yet un announced.
If I wasn't such a Universal Movies fan, I'd just go BR.
