So I am suddenly in the mood to listen to the Sabbath bit of Symphonie Fantastique.
Don't care if it's SACD or DVD-Audio but I would like recommendations and reasons.
Also, I would sure like to find Herrmann's Cape Fear Score on SACD... anyone know if it exists?
You can kind of see where I am going with this...

I'm not sure which SF is best. There are many, many available, though. I have THIS (http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PHISAM4706322) one. Nothing special about it, to me, really.
THIS (http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RCASA67899) one, from the "RCA Livng Stereo" series may be worth checking out. The price is reasonable enough.

yeah, I saw the list at sa-cd.net :
http://sa-cd.net/search/Symphonie+Fantastique
And there appear to be a number of DVD-Audio recordings:
http://www.amazon.com/Berlioz-Symphonie-fantastique-DVD-Audio/dp/B00067RF7S
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?PID=6923321&style=music&frm=frooglemusic
http://www.musicdirect.com/products/detail.asp?sku=CCLADVA2022
but there's not much feedback, or comparison.
To jump over to herrmann for a minute, I see that there were two releases for his film score (not including "Twisted Nerve" or "Cape Fear" (drat!)).
HERRMANN, Bernard: The Film Scores SONY Classical SK 62700-2 (1996 DDD) or SS 62700-6 (1996 DDD transferred to 2-ch SACD only)
apparently 62700-2 is surround via dolby? Anyone?
Paul Paray on Mercury Living Presence is well thought of, as is Solti's version with the Chicago Symphony. The Paray is on SACD, don't believe that Solti's is.
Here's one link to the Paray:

Paavo Jarvi & the Cincinnati Orchestra on Telarc does a pretty fine job on the Berlioz Fantastique. It is multi channel SA-CD.It also includes the love theme from Romeo & Juliet. This disc is Pure DSD like most of Telarc recordings in SA-CD.
