Directv is kind enough to shower us in endless hughesnet commercials, promising "highspeed" internet to all of us living in central Idaho who cant get fast enough porn downloads. I cant even think of a less efficient way of transmitting internet signals, and to be honest I dont really understand how there isnt enough bandwidth for a 10mbs HD channel, yet there is enough to provide internet to thousands. Can someone explain how this system works. I find it hard to beleive this isnt draining bandwidth away from precious TV.

1. They are on their own Sats.
2. This has to do with HD Programming how?

1. They may be on their own sats, but Directv could use those same sats an orbital slots for TV. Further, as a citizen, I resent the federal government allowing part of the spectrum being used for internet, highly inneficient.

2. This has to do with HD programming because it is a service provided by DirecTV, and can be taking resources(spectrum, slots, birds, financing) away from DirecTVs primary purpose, TV.

So based upon your rational argument, because you don't need high speed internet via SAT, no one should?

Are you a stock holder in DirecTV? If so, why don't you vote to cancel this service?

BTW:

13) Q: I have DIRECTV already. Will this be on the same bill? Any special deals?

A: No, you will not be able to receive both services on the same bill. HUGHES®, which delivers HughesNet® services, is not affiliated with The DIRECTV Group. At this time, there are no discounts for selecting both services.

There are many people who can only get "high speed" internet access via satellite.

I resent the government deciding how the spectrum can be used.

DirecTV can decide what their primary, secondary and tertiary purposes all they want. If customers aren't happy, they can go to Dish, cable or FIOS.

Actually, legally, their primary purpose is to maximize return for shareholders.

Also, here is a link to the FAQs for HughesNet (http://go.gethughesnet.com/HUGHES/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity%5BOID%5B1 5A93A2DA4CDCC4F9CE726CB27566F74%5D%5D)

Satellite spectrum is not free like OTA. Satellite companies paid millions for the right to lease orbital slots. Also Hughesnet is on G3 Ku satellite and uses only 3 transponders. That is not that much bandwith.
