I've never seen a mention of this problem in the forum so far, so wanted to ask to see if anyone else has encountered this.

We bought an LG DR1F9H "Super Multi-Format" DVD Recorder back in December 2006 from BB. It's been working great for us, up until last night that is.

We were watching a DVD, and when it was over, we wanted to eject the DVD... but when the tray opened up, the DVD was missing. It was STILL INSIDE the machine! We tried everything we could short of opening the thing up ourselves to get the DVD out, to no avail. Today we brought it into BB (we've got their service agreement on this thing from them) and the guy from Geek Squad opened it up and took out the DVD, put it back together, and we thought all was well. One time deal, right?

Well....NOT. Hubby was making sure it was working all right when we got it home and all plugged back in, and it was fine for a couple of hours, and then...AGAIN. It swallowed another DVD!

I've never had this happen in ANY DVD player or recorder before. I've never heard of this problem with LGs either (yet). Has anyone else had this happen, or heard of it?

We're going to have to bring the stupid thing back into BB tomorrow I guess, and have them ship it out to get it "fixed" (yeah, right). It remains to be seen if they can fix it, or will. Stupid thing's not even a year old and it's messing up. I'm highly disappointed...up til now we've been happy with our LG products. Now I have to wonder...?

Thanks in advance for any help/comments anyone can provide.
DK

Anyone? Would appreciate any input, here, if there even IS anyone out there with any ideas re: this problem.

If nothing else would like to know what might be causing this...a mechanical problem, I assume? If (when) we get this fixed, is it likely to happen again, or will fixing it take care of the problem once and for all?

Thanks in advance.

There's lots of help available for DVDs that are "stuck" cause the tray won't open, but not for a DVD that stays inside the machine. For the usual "stuck/tray won't open" the advice is almost always to remove the cover if the usual reset/plug-unplug remedies don't work.

For your problem, I've read of only one other occurrence in a computer drive. The "stuckee" got the disc to come out by tilting his computer 45-degrees with the tray open.

Thanks for the reply.

Believe me, we tried that...turned it every which way to see if we could get the thing out. It seemed the back of the tray itself (?) stopped the DVD from dropping out, or something inside of the machine did.

We ended up taking it back into Best Buy and the Geek Squad fellow had to take the drive out and open it up to get the DVD out...pretty extreme, I know, but it was a DVD we wanted to keep, one of a set we'd just bought a few days before.

As for now? We're going to have to end up sending the thing out for repair. It doesn't matter if the DVD is recovered undamaged this time...it was an old one used to test the machine to see if it would work properly or not (which it didn't of course).

It figures we'd get a DVD recorder that is different from any other...it consumes the media instead of recording or playing it. :p
