Ok, have tried to ask a couple times about this so will come to the point and ask. I have asked it in a couple threads and no answer really so thought I would come to the point and see what I can get. Can anyone who has probs like have been posted here and there answer these?

All the probs of it squishing and changing aspect ration and some saying it only records well to RAM disks...How do you guys with those probs have it set up????

I need good IQ, Flex record, smooth layer transition on DL, and able to get as good or better IQ recording to dvd-r disks as I get with the Pio 320 and the 533.

Is that possible with the EZ 17 and/or the EZ27, at all???

My hook up will be recording from the directtv converter box outputs. I won't be using recorder tuner. And I will not be recording any HD tv.

So, does anyone have it set up this way and if so do you have any of the number of mentioned problems others are having???
I have always set my PIoneers and such to record from the converter box output, another words the satellite signal goes into the directtv box and then out to tv or to my recorder.
ANyone have it set up like this and have any or the squishing probs, the changing aspect ratio or it recording best to Ram disk, when set up like this?????

CAN ANYONE tell me this?
I want to get one tomorrow, but not if there are probs like I have been reading about...so PLEASE help me.

And would I be right in saying that all the squishing and aspect and other probs folks are having is because they are using the tuner, where the cable comes into the recorder first instead of a converter box? WOuld this be a fair assumption????

And the ones that say it records best to RAM disks, is that set up the same way and just the HD or uprezzing or whatever to HD?????

I want to use it just like I do my other ones...no up or downrezzing, just record as it comes from the converter box. WIll i have any problems doing this like I have read here?

How are the transitions from one layer to the other on DL media?

And with this setup this way, will i get as good IQ or better, than with my older pioneer sets?

And doing it this way without up or down rezzing or doing HD, just what comes from converter box, will I get the same IQ on a dvd-r as a RAM disk??
..thanks..t

I would like to get this tomorrow, but if all the posted problems and the image quality is not excellent and the layer transition is not smooth when set up as I have described, as I have all my older ones set up..going thru the converter box first, then I won't get it...please, please help clarify these for me...

PS>...if I am right then all the problems like the aspect and the RAM disk being better recording are due to folks using the tuner instead of a converter box and the RAM disk thing is related to the HD problems only, not regular SD?...thanks.

also read on the EZ17 thread about transition on the DL

can anyone answer this from experience or knowledge:

Question:
I read page 10 on the manual and it says that for DL -r it divides and image and sound may be lost, but DL+R does not divide, but may pause in playback.

So my question is, if I use DL +R disk, then I won't lose ANY image or sound in recording, right? it will just pause in playback..is that what it is saying?

Can anyone clarify this? Anyone recorded on a DL +R yet and can tell me if there is ANY loss of image or sound? thanks..t

I've recorded with the EZ17 on both DL+ and DL- discs. The DVD-R DL discs do have a pause at the layer break where there is about a three second loss of image and sound. Plus I the my machine is unable to finalize the -R DL discs. I get an error message saying "finalization failed."

The DVD+R DL discs finalize fine, but take forever to do so. I have not noticed any loss of image or sound at the layer break, but I honestly don't know exactly where the break is. The -R was pretty obvious.

So if you get one, go with the +R DL discs. I'm still debating returning mine because of the -R DL trouble.
