I am buying an HD1000U and am wondering if I should get the
"Warrantech Repair Master 3 Yr. Warranty Service Plan - Lamp"
from Projector People. I will likely be using the PJ quite a bit for xbox 360, movies, TV, and occasionally as a monitor so I imagine the 2000-3000 hrs would go quite quickly. But I'm not even sure if the warranty covers a bulb simply living its life and burning out.
Thoughts? COmments? Useful insights or information?
Thanks guys.
(Seriously, this forum has easily been the most useful/necessary resource for planing this. Before stumbling on here, I was going to get a regular LCD or plasma TV... 50" = lame! Maybe Superman can see a screen that small, but I sure can't ;) )
How much do they charge for it?
I got it. Think of it this way. 350 bucks or so vs 100 now.
Yeah, but as I said, I'm not sure that the warrenty will cover bulbs that have lasted between 2000 and 3000 hrs (the manufacturers suggested bulb life).
Anyone know about this?

I bought it, and agree with revolt. I have a bad tendency to "ON/Off/ON" my PJ when working on my HT" safety net for me.... :D

Bottom line with the Repair Master - Warrantech lamp warranty (clarifying Warrantech because I know other warranties vary), this is not a "carry in" warranty. Which means you could ship a defective lamp with 1 hour on it ... 1000 hours ... or 10,000 hours. The warranty company has no means available to verify the actual logged lamp hours.
I am not advocating lying, stealing, cheating - but it sounds like your concern is an issue that would never surface anyway.

Depends what will happen if the bulb fails early.
Is it going to present a financial hardship if you suddenly, 5 months from now, have to spend $350 replacing the bulb? I mean no one wants to spend the money, but will you have to make some kind of significant sacrifice to replace it that you don't want to make?
In the long term, its cheaper to replace bulbs that fail than buy a warranty with every bulb- if it weren't the company wouldn't be in business! But if you want the peace of mind or are concerned about the cost, you may prefer the warranty.
Do some research on Warrantech too- I recall reading bad things about them. I don't recall specifics, but search the forum for warrantech and you should be able to find something... or not- I may be confusing them with another company.
Well, the comments seem to contradict with the results of the poll...
Seems there are a lot of drunken pervs in this forum...
Thanks for the specific info there Eric. I think I will go with the warranty after all. It replaces up to two times in three years, so...
