I never did any DL copies when I had my Pio 531 but several users of 533/633s reported doing -R DLs OK...I think BobKart was one. Have you been trying +R or -R (-R are hard to find).
I have the + ones..
on that 540 I am not so sure i will get it, as the front looks ok, but the back picture of it, does not match any manual for the 540/640 on pioneer site...have emailed the seller to confirm if pic is wrong or not....thanks..t

The 533/633 will not record + discs, only -R. Have you tried a -R DL on your 533?
no but i will..thanks for the headsup, i had forgotten about bobkart..
I also pm'd him to see if there was any loss of image or audio at the layer transition when recording...i expect a pause when playback, but hopefully no loss of anything
i went back to pioneer site and I had missed the -r dl thing in the specs, but I had searched the manual and no where in it did it mention anything about DL..odd..thanks..t

I have the Pio 533, it won't burn +R DL discs but it reads/plays +R DL, and SL +R just fine.

Sorry, I should have said "record."

Check out my response in the
question for 640H owners forum
I just purchased an international 530H Pioneer 80GB recorder that records to
-r/rw & +r/rw, dual layer -r only and reads RAM. The Pioneer 340H will write to RAM and dual layer + & - r. The clock for the 340H works on Zulu time (1 - 24).
The 530H incorporates great editing features and is very easy to use. I have recorded a ton of commercial programming from History and History International and it is very easy to delete commercials and divide programs. After editing I create a playlist that incorporates several programs that are recorded onto a single dvd-r. There are six different menu options.
I also own a 100gb Panasoinc recorder and the Pioneer is every bit as good as the Panasonic. Without a doubt Panasonic and Pioneer make the very best dvd recorders.
