An upcoming DVD player I'm getting as a present is a progressive scan DVD player. And it's cool, but I don't really know what Progressive Sca is. And if someone could explain it in a nutshell, then that would help me understand dvd players a lot more!

That's a lame explanation of progressive scan, especially in terms of explaining the capabilities of a new dvd player as compared to an older one.
Wikipedia is usually a good source of info, but I agree, that is a rather lame attempt.
Maybe this one is better. (http://hometheater.about.com/od/beforeyoubuy/a/progressivescan.htm) Nice hint for when you're considering purchase at the end of pg 2 on the two diff. types of progressive scan: "plain vanilla" and "with 3:2 pulldown detection."

But it's horribly inaccurate. It's nice if you like short stories though...
