View Full Version : HELP! Why is my HD Cable / AX100 zooming in non-hi def?

This is driving me NUTS. It didn't do it at first, now it is... I have no idea why. The cable box is set to 'Pass Through' but even at 'Fixed' or other video output settings the result is the same. Non-High Def programming is literally zoomed in on the projector outside the boundaries of the frame and clipped all the way around. When I go to Hi-Def channels, everything is fine. Is the projector trying to do something weird? I've gone through the settings but don't see ANYTHING that could be causing this! The Wii or Xbox 360 do not have this problem, and they are running into the same component input via a switching receiver.

Cable box is Scientific Atlanta HD non-DVR, and projector is Panasonic AX100. If anyone has ANY clues I would greatly appreciate them!

I don't know if it's going to help, but ...

My Scientific Atlanta HD box has a pass-through option but there is also a button that somehow appeared when auto-programming my cablebox settings into my Harmony 880 remote - that also changes zoom settings.
I have found that even when I press the button on my 880 remote and the picture zooms, it doesn't adjust the pass through setting on the cable box menu itself.

Which leads me to believe there might be a "2nd" zoom-type setting within the cable box that I couldn't find.

Again ... it's a conundrum to me as well ... but hopefully it may help your puzzle.

Not sure about the SA box, but my Motorolla has an option for 4:3 over-ride. By turning it off, my screen does not auto zoom.

Ok thanks guys... I'll keep looking into it. I can't imagine the projector is doing it, so I guess I'll grab my HD DVR from downstairs and bring it up and test that way. If it doesn't do it, then I'll assume it's the cable box causing the problem.

Thanks again
