I have some questions regarding HDTV, hookups, etc.

We just bought a new Plasma HDTV and we have Dish Satellite.

My question is regarding what hookup is best for our normal SD viewing? We have the Dish standard DVR and won't be upgrading to the HD DVR or HD programming so standard definition is what we are watching. I currently just have a red/yellow/white AV cable going from the Dish DVR to the TV. Would an HDMI or S-Video cable give us a better standard definition picture than an A/V cable or would it not make any difference? If so, what hookup would give us the very best SD picture?

Thanks!!

What's the point of having an HD-TV without HD programming?

Because we wanted a new TV and we will eventually pay more for HD. Why would I want to buy a non HDTV? In the meantime, I am trying to figure out if a standard A/V cable hookup is fine or if we would get a better SD picutre with another hookup.

It would be best to use S-Video with the analog audio, then composite video with the analog audio. Last choice would be RF (channel 3 or 4).

You know - it MAY be possible for you to receive the local digital stations off of your own OTA antenna, and still use your DBS receiver for your "cable" channels.

S-video would give you the best picture quality, but remember that s-video only carries video. Some Dish receivers feature an optical output for audio. That would be your best audio option. If it doesn't have optical, stick with the red and white RCAs.

You should hook up an antenna and see if you can recieve OTA digital channels and may be able to enjoy anywhere for some to a fair amount of HD content.

Indeed, and it's free.

The best connectors for SD are the same as the best connectors for HD. However, the best connector on the box is probably only s-video. (Dunno; what's the model number?)
