I recently purchased a Philips DVP3960 DVD player for upconverting and the picture is great. The problem is that it isn't centered when upconverting to 1080i. I'm using an HDMI-DVI cable to connect it to the DVI port on my Mitsubishi WS-48313 Rear projection TV.

You can see this most easily during credits and when the menu is on (if you do a negative zoom out to -1.5 you can also see that part of the right side of the screen is being cut off without the zoom on). If I switch the resolution output to 480p, the picture is centered.

EDIT: I have changed the topic title to refect that it is NOT the DVD player causing the issue. I forgot that my cable box also has HDMI out so I tried to connect it to the DVI port using the cable. And sure enough, this also had a picture centering issue most noticible in menus (even letters cut off).

So, now I know that it's either the cable or the TV.

Is it possible that an HDMI to DVI cable itself could do this? Or is the TV just not accepting the HDMI input (thru the DVI port) correctly?

Edited OP to reflect that the player is not causing the problem -- it's either the HDMI-DVI cable or the TV.

I am interested in the Philips DVP3960. I noted your quote. "I recently purchased a Philips DVP3960 DVD player for upconverting and the picture is great". Please keep us posted about your experience with the Philips DVP3960.

After much research on the 'net, I found out how to get into the Service Menu for my set. I got the picture centered, but it screwed up other stuff - focus on the right, too narrow on widescreen on the left, etc. So I got it adjusted back close to where it was ... and now I still have my picture centering issue.

I'll try another cable. If that doesn't work, I'll know it's calibration on the TV, but I don't know enough to do it without screwing the rest of the picture up. Guess it's alot of trial and error.
