I have a Sanyo z4 projector. This morning when I went to turn it on there was no image. After a few seconds the door closes and the lamp replacement light starts flashing (along with the red power light).
I had a replacement lamp handy (came free with the projector) so I followed the instructions and replaced the lamp.
nothing.
Same issue, no image, flashing replace lamp light, etc.
I made sure I had replaced it corretly and ensured the new lamp was seated properly and still nothing.
Any idea what might be going on here?
Thanks.

I have a Z5 and the instructions say that you have to reset the lamp counter after changing the lamp. It is under the settings menu.
I cant reset the counter if I can't see the menu :(

Are you situated at what might be considered high altitude by any chance?
I'm not (at sea level). I've read about that problem, its remarkably similar though. I'll call Sanyo tomorrow and hopefully we can figure it out.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to call Sanyo, but you may want to check out the troubleshooting section in the PLV-Z4 service manual (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=856519&highlight=z4+service+manual).
I've had trouble twice with the slide shutter not shutting completely. Manually shutting it was all that was needed. You could try opening the shutter manually before turning the projector on. How many hours on the projector (total and since the last filter cleaning)?
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Ahh, thanks, the service manual would have been useful :)
I called Sanyo:
The dude said he'd help me over the phone, and knew pretty much exactly what was wrong. He said the unit either shut down incorrectly or it overheated (i suspect the latter after having seen my filters). I'll describe the fix though I suspect its in the service manual as well.
1 - Remove the three screws with the arrow indicators from the bottom of the unit.
2 - Remove the three screws from the input side of the unit (1 of the screws is shorter so be sure to replace it in the same spot)
3 - Slide the top cover of the unit up, careful because there are a group of wires connected to it
4 - There is a black button with a white top in the bottom right quadrant of the PJ (assuming the unit is facing away from you), it has 2 wires connected to it
5 - Press the button and hear a soft click
6 - The thermostat how now been reset
7 - Replace the cover and screws and enjoy.
Thanks for your replies.

Wueric,
Thanks for posting this. My Z4 stopped working and the lamp replace buttons were flashing. I ordered a new $300 lamp, put it in and it still didn't work. Found your thread and was able to do the reset and get it working.
By the way, my lamp had 2753 hours on it. I thought it was fine but I'm noticing a nice improvement in brightness with the new lamp.
Ahh, thanks, the service manual would have been useful :)
