So heres whats going on. When I turn on the TV I get a humming noise that will ge louder and quieter. When I turn the TV off, and it goes to the blue screen and cools down all the way, then the noise stops.
I'm afraid it may be a color wheel, unless there is some type of fan that would cause the issue. If it is a color wheel, how much am I looking at? If it's something else, anyone in the St. Louis Area knowhow to fix it and want to make some cash?
Thanks for any help..

Mind if I bump this? Still having issues =(
If it stays on until the unit completely cools then it is not the color wheel. The color wheel shuts off when you press the off button. It may be the fan that cools the bulb. That fan shuts off a miniute or two after you power off the unit.

I agree with PaulGo it sounds like a cooling fan.

When I turn the power off of the TV, It goes to a blue screen that fades into a black screen. As soon as the screen becomes black (less then or around a minute) then sound stops. It seems since I got back from work trip/vacation the noise will go in and out.
If it is the fan, how easy would it be to get replaced or should I call a pro? I'm pretty decent in computers/electronics, but I don't fiddle with TV's.

It's a color wheel. The RCA's are famous for their wheels getting loud. Most of them are available seperately, a couple models have the wheel only available by replacing the engine.

Well I orderd and replaced the color and the noise is gone. The wheel cost 119+ shipping. However, it seems I messed up something. The image is slightly slanted from top left to bottom right (ie a clockwise turn). What would cause this? I'll take ti back apart to fix it, I just need to make sure I approach it correctly.
Thanks everyone so far for the help, been very helpful.
