Hello all,

I have been a lurker for years now. After wishing for a few years, I finally bit the bullet and purchaced an Optoma HD72.

I have noticed in reading some of the threads that mounting the HD72 is quite a pain. After searching the site, I couldn't find someone that had run into my specific set of challenges.

After opening up the HD72 box, I was a bit suprised as to the lack of specific mounting instructions.

I have a 14'x32' room with 12' ceilings. My power/cable hookups are centered on the ceiling 16.5' away from the wall I want to project onto.

My question is this,

Is my ceiling too high for my projector mounted on a standard universal mount? What is the "perfect" ceiling mount height for the HD72?
I have found mounts that have extended downrods, however they are kinda rough looking for my prefrence.

Thanks for the help,

Kernel

A long rod or keystone are you only choices.

According the the projection Calc: http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD72-projection-calculator-pro.htm

At 16.5 feet away, the Image size is 120-144" diag. That may be a problem for you too.

I have an hd72 in a 13'x'13' with 10' ceiling. I get a 106" image nearly centered on the wall using a standard mount up against the back wall.

Page 16 of the manual has the calculation to determine image height: http://www.optomausa.com/PDFs/usermanuals/Optoma_HD72_en_v1.pdf

Thanks for the info, Morris.

Will the image be dimmer the further back the projector is mounted?

As for the 130 " screen, does anyone have any opinions on having a screen size so big?

Bigger is better (if you can make it work).

Yes dimmer - at least 1.5 gain screen

I run my HD72 at 115" on a white wall, no problems. I've got it wallmounted on an extended length rod at the back of the room as we have a vaulted ceiling.
