I cannot find anything that lists the DVD players that support 1080p at 24 fps that will work with my Pioneer Plasma HDMI input. Any suggestions or options?

Just sent the Pio 480i and you should accomplish the same thing. 1080p24 is of little or no value for SD-DVD playback. 1080p24 is great for hidef DVDs because the discs themselves (film based) are mastered in 1080p24.

You can only do so much with a 480i source so it would be very hard to pull a train with a donkey....

So even if you do output 480i are you saying that they should be output according to whether they are NTSC @ 60HZ or PAL @ 50Hz; what happens if they are output at 24 Hz (or its multiples) with a scaler; will this screw things up ie. introduce judder. Are there any DVDs that were recorded as 24 fps to be output at 24 Hz; please explain?

The output of the MPEG decoder 480i regardless if the DVD is encoded at 480p24 or not. Deinterlacing is still necessary. If you want to do 48hz or 72hz output to a display 2:2 or 3:3 pulldown can be done by a scaler or in the display.
