I just tested a standard Xmen dvd on a Samsung BD P1200 using a Samsung 40 inch LCD and it looked AMAZING!!! A crowd formed around me and was praising the HD picture. You should of seen their reaction when I told them it was coming from a standard dvd. I own 300+ standard dvds and I was dissapointed that the picture quality on LCDs was usually crappy. Now I'm confident and ready to sell my 34inch Sony tube and move on up to an LCD cuz of this new technology.

Just wondering if there are any other chips out there that are any better than the Reon chip (HQV) ??? What about the Faroudja chip from the OPPO dvd players? I want to make sure I get the best processing possible for my standard dvds.

Faroudja's DCDi had its day, years ago. Reon is SO's slimmed down version of the Realta. There is another VP of this caliber but only available in external VPs. Check out the VP forum if interested.

You should consider getting an HDTV with HQV using SO Realta chip if you watch SD (and/or DVD.) Upconverting everything to ~HD lite means you can sit close enough to enjoy HD resolution without being blinded by SD. Currently available in Syntax 7xx model and soon in newer models using a better panel. (Better panel means >%color gamut, faster and maybe better contrast (blacker blacks.))

It will be interesting to see how this level of upscaling quality impacts the sales of Bluray and HD-DVD media. I mean, after a while it will be cheaper and start to appear in many players eventually.
