Hope someone can give me some advice... My Panny DMRE85H died one day-- no clock display when plugged in-- blank screen.... I unplugged it-- let it sit overnight... When I plugged it back in.... a "Please wait" message came up that would not go away... I tried some suggestions from others on another site-- holding in power, pressing Power, stop and channel up........ The only thing I was able to get with button pressing combinations was to get the unit to display "LOCK or UNLOCK briefly-- and then it would return to the "PLEASE WAIT"... No other buttons work..... I opened machine up-- no dust inside.......
I tried plugging it in and unplugging it.......... NOTHING but "please wait".......... I left it on in this mode for 12 hours-- it still said the same thing...... The fan does not work...... the machine makes no noise whatsoever....... it does not get warm while plugged in.....

Any suggestions-- or advice as to what the problem could be???
I am DESPERATE for advice !!!!
Karen

While it could be any of a number of issues, IMO it is most likely a hard drive failure. Try replacing the hard drive. There are a couple of threads here with step by step instructions and which tell you the best drives to use. It's easy to do --- I replaced mine about 18 months ago.

If by chance that doesn't do the trick (and I honestly believe that it will), Panasonic will repair your unit for a flat fee of $130 (includes all parts, labor and shipping).

Good luck.

Try holding the Channel Up and Down buttons on the unit at the same time. If you can get it to reset, set your clock manually and turn DST OFF.

If the fan isn't working, then that's a really bad sign. If wabjxo's suggestion doesn't work, then it definately needs to be serviced...

Sorry, it was late and I completely brain-farted while reading and missed the point about the fan not running. It does actually sound like it could be the power supply or something more serious than just the hard drive. My bad.

When my E-85 died a month ago, it did the same thing. It was the hard drive. Since I replaced it the unit has been working better than before, which leads me to think that my original HDD was on a slow boat to failure.

Replacing the HDD is simple. If you have already taken the top off to look for dust, you have accomplished the hardest part.

I recently had my first problem with my Pana 85 in a couple of years. This came after one of those very brief power outages. I was getting the "Please wait" and U99 messages, and the unit would only stay on for a minute at a time. The advice from the manual didn't work, so I thought I'd try to track down something from this forum. I found this thread, and sure enough, holding down these two buttons did the trick!

Thanks to wabjxo, and all of you who offer your help here.
