Hi all. I just bought my first condo and i'm closing on this Thursday (6/28) :D . Since i live at my parents right now, i get to do the "slow move in" which is nice. I'm going to clean on Friday, paint on Saturday and then some furniture i bought will come on Tuesday. Enough with my life story.

The issue is, i currently have a 32" Samsung LCD which i've very happy with. But it's just not going to cut it size-wise come Bears football season :D So i want to get a DLP since you can get the biggest size for the cheapest that way. I convinced my brother to get a Sony 60" SXRD in March of '06 for $4k and it is an AWESOME set. I don't have that much money though. So i do some quick initial searching and find that Circuit City (which i already have their card and would be eligible for the 18 months no interest) has the e2000 line of Sony Wega DLP's on sale. The 46" is $900 the 50" is $1175 and the 55" is $1107 (yes the 55" is cheaper right now for some reason).

Should i just go ahead and get the 55"? All i will do is watch HD cable or satellite and movies on this tv. No videogames at this point. Is there a better tv out there for $1100 right now? Is the extra 9" worth $200 on this tv? Any suggestions of other tvs would be welcome. Otherwise, i'll probably buy the tv this week so it can get set up soon in my condo. Thanks guys.

EDIT: the room that the tv will go in is 19' X 16' but is also open on one side to the "dininig room". There is a sliding glass door on one wall and no other windows. The sliding glass doors have good blinds and i can get better ones so almost no light comes in.

Also, i see some suggesting that the A2020 series is better choice than the e2000 b/c it's 1080p and better black levels, but the 55" of that series is $1909. That's $800 more or 75% pricier. Is that really worth it? There is almost zero 1080p content on cable right now and i don't plan on getting a blu-ray player or hd-dvd player anytime soon. If i was going 1080p i would get the best SXRD set out there (but again, i don't have the money, hehe)

I won't be much help in your decision, but are you sure that the Sony you are looking at is a DLP? I was actually looking at the same model (55") just yesterday and the e2000 series is acutally a 3LCD, not a DLP. It has gotten some good user reviews from what I have found and I am probably going to buy the tv this week (but not from Best Buy because they refused the match the price from another retailer!)

yeah, you're right, it's a 3LCD. I guess i thought that was just another fancy name for DLP :D . I know that LCoS is newer/better technology than DLP but i wasn't sure about 3LCD. Anyways, I'm wondering if there will be any coupons to use at Circuit City anytime soon. I don't want to buy it and then have a 10% off coupon show up or something.

I believe AAA (the Auto Club) members get a one time 10% off coupon for use at Circuit City ..... the 10% off appears to apply to the entire order with some exclusions (game consoles, Sony XBR, etc.) .
Even if you're not a AAA member, it only $50 or so to join. You would still come out ahead ..

I think some will agrue over whether LCos is a better technology than a DLP. Why don't you check out the Toshiba 57H167 (True 1080p) or the prvious years model 62HM196 (1080p), some are still around the 57 goes for under 15K and the 62 for around $16K. Could also go for the 65HM167 for around $19K or less.
