I have a Panasonic DMR-E100H that has served us well for several years. An interesting problem has recently appeared. On an intermittent basis when playing back material recorded on the HD, the system locks up. The timer showing the program progress / status freezes, but the recorded program continues to play on the TV. However, I can no longer get any response from the DVD - can't stop, pause, FF, skip. The only option is to force a system power down. On power up, the system does a self check and works OK until the next lock up.
I have done a system reset (several times), done a firmware update with no clear benefit. Could it be the HD has died or is sick? If so, how hard is it to replace? Any ideas on sources?
Thanks

Have you checked out this thread?

Bottom line was a firmware update on the STB causes the Panasonic DVD recorder to lock up.
Hope this helps.

If the firmware update does not work, call Panny customer service. I believe they have a flat rate to repair their units. I've read somewhere, either at AVS or Videohelp, that the rate was $130 which included shipping both ways.

Just to be clear, in my case (and the case of many others), it was the forced firmware update on the STB (via the cable company) that caused the problem, it was not the solution to the problem.
At the time there was no firmware fix from Panasonic that resolved the issue. I have not checked for a Panasonic update lately, though. I was told several months ago that the fix would come from SA (the STB manufacturer), not Panasonic.

Reset the unit, then set clock manually and turn DST OFF.
