I currently have a Harmony 880, but need the RF/IR repeating abilities similar to the Harmony 890.

Programming the 890 shouldn't be an issue for me since I have the 880 all tweaked out and I'm well beyond the learning curve. I also assume that I'll be able to import most everything from the 880 settings to the 890 settings.

I need IR repeating due to my new TV stand causing line-of-sight issues. Also, I like the RF ability as well since my wife seems to not aim the remote during startup and shutdown.

My question is if there are any alternatives remotes that would give me the same functionality as the 890 within the same price range which is currently $224 shipped. I'm pretty much ready to order the 890, but I'm looking for alternatives.

Before you purchase another remote, see whether you can still control all your equipment with the 880 by pointing it away from your equipment and bouncing the IR signal off a sidewall of your room.

I originally bought a 890 to control both my DVD player and component switch box by RF since I don't have line of sight to either of them. I had enough problems keeping the IR leads from the RF base in place while moving other equipment, that I decided to just try using IR for everything. As long as I point my 890 at about a 45 degree angle off my side wall, it controls all my components with no problems using IR.

If you decide you want to purchase an 890 and still be able to use your 880, you need to create a new account for the 890. When I purchased a 880 to use if I forgot to charge the 890, logitech technical support was able to copy all my setting to the new account with no problems.

I don't think the bouncing off the walls will help because my wife will just not aim at the walls the same way that she won't aim at the components. I don't plan on moving my equipment around since it has been pretty stable after the last upgrade. If I do move it then it will be for better ventilation due to not needing to maintain line-of-sight for my remotes.

I do not plan on keeping the 880 after getting the 890. I plan on selling the 880 for $100 to help fund the 890 upgrade. What I meant in my post was that I can still use my 880 configuration to build the 890 configuration and just swap out devices to use RF.
