Wow, I guess 1080p DOES make a difference when viewing 1080i material. I have DirecTV HD programming and a Vizio L37 LCD right now. I know that your pics don't do your TV justice but even those pics look better than my Vizio 720p does in person. I think I'm pretty much sold on this unit, especially since it is 65" and can be had for less than $2,000 shipped to your door.
JetSnake 10-23-07, 01:13 PM Regarding the noise. I've had my set on 80+ hours now and I've not experienced any noise (knock on wood). I mean there's a light hum that can be heard when standing right next to the tv. I can't hear it when the volume is on the lowest setting.
That's good to know. Getting ready to pull the triger on the 65734. Anyone disagree?
Right now I'm viewing HD-DVD at 1080i with my 55511. How much of a viewing difference with there be with a 65734 at 1080p?
beowulf7 10-23-07, 02:03 PM I think I'll try to wait it out, at least until I'm satisfied with the PQ. I need my HD-A2 to confirm this... :)
Also, I don't think we should call this a "hum". A hum is noise a 60 hz ground-loop makes. This is a very high-pitched noise. I imagine it's coming from the color-wheel motor, a bearing or the servo itself. It's OBNOXIOUS!!!
Also, what sort of calibration does the xx833 have that the xx734 doesn't in service-man mode?
I can now also hear the hum of the fan when the TV is mute or low vol., but the high-pitched whining sound is no longer there. It somehow fixed itself and hopefully won't return!
InfiniteThought 10-23-07, 03:37 PM The noise has gotten a little quieter on the second start-up. It did get louder about 30 minutes in, but nothing like it was Sunday night! I'm only about 3 hours into the life of the TV. I have very little free time ATM, which makes it frustrating.
Comcast was hooked up this morning. The HD picture over YRB is fantastic! I should have HDMI cables coming in the mail today, hopefully that will improve the PQ.
If the noise isn't dead by 12 hours, I'm returning this unit.
I played with the Menu+2470 last night. I don't see any calibration menu, just something called production mode and the bulk hours. How do I adjust geometry in this mode and pull up test patterns? Can this be done on the 734?
So far I can't complain about the PQ. Black levels are exceeding my expectations!
For manual geometry it's menu-2-4-5-7 pause a second then 0.
Phireman19 10-23-07, 10:39 PM I still haven't gotten any response from Mitsubishi about my high pitched whine or the bowing issue. This is after HHGregg's Product Management Dept. has promised twice over the last 2 days that I will get a call from Mitsubishi and from HHGregg later yesterday and today. Well NO CALL BACK !
I told HHGregg yesterday and this morning that I am done with this TV and want to exchange it for the Sony KDS60A3000.
That's when they told me you will DEFINATELY get a call back.
I may just tell them to forget the whole deal and just give me my money back and I will start over.

I heard Mitsubishi was shutdown due to the wildfires.
Phireman19 10-24-07, 12:01 AM I heard Mitsubishi was shutdown due to the wildfires.
If that is true, that's still no excuse for HHGregg not to call me back as they have promised over the last 2 days.
nivo885 10-24-07, 01:38 AM I purchased this set about 3 weeks ago, I noticed yesterday that the whites where kinda pinkish sometimes lime green. only the inside edges of the whites.
Now tonight the set has vertical lines all the way accross the screen.
Is this the light engine? I bought this set due to the ratings and everyones opinions and satisfaction.
Should I contact the store for warranty or return and buy something else?

:confused:A friend of mine just purchased the WD-73734 from Amazon and after having the TV a couple of weeks, it has stopped working. He says when it powers on, you can hear it power up and then back down. It Does this 3 times and powers down for good...he never gets a picture. Sometimes the lamp indicator comes on amber and sometimes it doesn't come on at all. Mits customer server is saying that the lamp is bad. Anyone experiencing the same issue?? Thanks.
Thugzie 10-24-07, 10:31 AM If that is true, that's still no excuse for HHGregg not to call me back as they have promised over the last 2 days.
I think Mits has sales rep for all their authorized dealers. When I went to buy my set the salesmen didn't know how to answer some of my questions so he immediately called the Mits sales rep on his cell phone. The Mits CSR answered my questions and really knew what he was talking about.
I'd be willing to bet that HHGregg is dragging your issue out in hopes that the Mits CSR will be able to help you out before HHGregg has to go through the trouble of returning your TV. Not that that's bad. That's what it sounds like to me.
Phireman19 10-24-07, 11:03 AM As I recall, when I talked to HHGregg yesterday, they told me they were on the phone with Mitsubishi and gave me his name and that he will be calling me later in the day. Of course, he never did.
I am on the phone with HHGregg as I am writing this right now, and have been on hold for 8 mins.

Sounds like to me HHGregg are the ones dragging their feet on this, I've call Mit myself, and try to find out if i'm being lied to or not.
InfiniteThought 10-24-07, 12:27 PM Update: Last night I watched a couple of hours of TV. The noise has tonned down to the point where its barely audible. The HD picture is amazing. Very pleased. I'll have my HD-A2 in tonight w/Planet Earth. I'll take some screen shots.
hi folks,
after reading this and other forums, I pulled the trigger on a 73734, and it's getting delivered tomorrow with a slick, custom stand that it fits securely into.
I, of course, got a 5 year extended warranty, plus I had a long conversation with the salesman and manager. i had them turn off all the TV's in the immediate area where the 73734 was set up. standing back looking at the TV, we could not hear anything.
putting your head around the left front, there was a humming noise. not loud at all so it could have just been the cooling fan. I showed the printouts of this and other forums where folks are experiencing this problem in some sets.'
they have a 30 day no questions asked return policy. if the PQ of this set is everything people say it is, I will have them parading one after the other through my house until they find one that is acceptable. the manager said he had no problem with that-they want to be sure I am satisfied. They did tell me that their store has sold 27 of these.
over the period of a couple of days they checked on each of them and told me that not one has been returned for any reason.....we shall see.
This set is going to have to be impressive to beat out my current Pioneer Elite 65" CRT HDTV-RPTV. it's been calibrated twice and looks really, really nice. but in the showroom, they were feeding a Toshiba 1080p HD DVD demo disk through the 734, and my oh my.......I felt weak in the knees...
My harmony 880 and HDMI cables are arriving tomorrow as well...big day!

That looks horrible, as if your TV is in jail. I'd call the store and ask them to exchange it. You're still within the 30-day window, so they shouldn't give you any problems with it. Good luck.
Hipnotiq 10-24-07, 03:09 PM Now tonight the set has vertical lines all the way accross the screen.

This is absolutely the engine. Have a tech replace it. It's a simple procedure.
I have the 65734 and 65833 and have no noise , humming at all ,even on mute, i can't hear anything.
Since you have both, how would you compare the picture quality on both while watching fast moving programming such as football? Does the "Smooth 120Hz" really make that much of a difference?
Phireman19 10-24-07, 05:02 PM As I recall, when I talked to HHGregg yesterday, they told me they were on the phone with Mitsubishi and gave me his name and that he will be calling me later in the day. Of course, he never did.

Well they are taking the TV back and giving me in-store credit, plus an additional $200 on top of it. So I now have a $1999 store credit.
I am planning on getting the Sony KDS60A3000. You guys have any other suggestions that I may have overlooked ? I want at least 60". I don't want DLP, over and done with it.

Just curious why you don't want DLP?

The PQ on both sets are great, but we see very little difference beween the 734 and 833, so no, watching football, movies etc, it does not make that much of a difference with the 120Hz, where it does is with gaming.
Joe65734 10-25-07, 03:19 AM Here are my findings after fiddling around with my 65734 settings. Hope it helps someone out there...
Picture looks clear, colors real, and dark scenes contrast awesome.
I haven't seen many 65734 settings and after reading all the posts in this loooong thread, I came to the following settings:
1st step: used Sourcery's and others' Service Menu settings to correct grayscale and verified with THX DVD.
6. GGL factory was 1024; changed to 1020
7. GRL was also factory at 1024; changed to 1050
8. GBL was, you guessed it, at 1024 also! changed to 915.
I was able to immediately see a difference in color correctness as I had more of a yellowish/greenish picture where it should have been white (low temp, natural).
Then messed with various color, tint, perfectcolor and perfecttint settings, contrast and brightness and arrived at the following for best picture:
- Contrast 40-50
- Brightness, color, tint 31
- Enhancements Off (DFI, Sharpedge, Noise)
- Film mode Auto (couldn't see a diff with it off or auto)
- Prefectcolor and Perfect Tint at 31 for all colors (yes, tried changing a few and kept on going back to 31 for all!) Some of the settings form page 1-3 made the colors waaaaay off!
I agree that getting the grayscale corrected should be done first (Service Menu GGL, GRL, GBL)
OTA HD via indoor RCA amplified antenna look awesome (and luckily strong signal on ALL HD and SD channels after some tweaking); same with 1080p upscaling DVD via HDMI cable that came with the Philips DVP 5982 (set at 1080i as 1080p wouldn't handshake properly; will try w/ a better HDMI cable instead of stock)
Netcommand works great with AVR connected via digital; auto switches audio between OTA TV and DVD when input changes.
I don't have any noticeable geometric issues and luckily no high frequency/pitch noise at all. (returned 3x C657 units to Costco; should have a separate post on that horrible experience!) then ordered 65734 online from one call website. (2 price matches under their 7-day policy.)
By the way, this is my third Mitsu TV and I've only owned Mitsu's since college (college TV over 16 yrs old is still alive; 60" tube RPTV lasted 12 yrs straight; and now the 65734 -- hope won't regret)
65734 manufactured June '07.
Hope this helps.
Joe
Edited: 1call website; also forgot to add that sharpness is at 20.
got my 73734 delivered about 2 hours ago.
the high pitched wail can be heard clearly in the two rooms adjoining my living room. extremely loud.
As everyone has already said, the PQ of this set has to be seen to be believed.
I used the CNET settings and tweaked a couple just based on my eye: HDNet is just astonishing, and that's with component through my AV preamp.
getting my HDMI cables tomorrow.
I have already called for a replacement TV. I have a 10 day no questions asked return policy to work with.
if the 2nd one does it, i will leave the set turned on all weekend, as others have had luck with it going away after 50 or so hours of use.
I know it has been posted that a fix can be made by a tech. wrapping the ballast wiring, but getting a tech. out might take longer than the 10 day return policy I have, and I can't take a chance on it not working for some reason.
I can see why everyone is so ambivalent about giving this set up due to problems. 73" of Hidef goodness....man I hope I can get a set that does not squeal...
Phireman19 10-25-07, 11:22 AM Just curious why you don't want DLP?
I have had a Samsung 61" and a Mitsubishi 65" over the last 2 months, and nothing but problems. I'm not saying all DLP's are problematic, but have been for me. A friend of mine has a Samsung and no problems at all, great picture.
I'm just to the point, I am going to move on to something else. I am getting the Sony KDS60A3000. It will be here Saturday.
The PQ on both sets are great, but we see very little difference beween the 734 and 833, so no, watching football, movies etc, it does not make that much of a difference with the 120Hz, where it does is with gaming.
Thanks for the clarification. I don't do much gaming so it seems more and more like the 734 is the TV for me.;)

Congrats on your monster TV. Too bad about the squeal. It should go away on its own if my situation can serve as an example. But you're getting a new TV, which is your right. If you run the TV for 50 hrs., from what I read somewhere, don't run it consecutively. Run it maybe 4-8 hrs. max at a time, then turn it off. Besides, if your bedroom is close to the room where the TV is, you won't be able to sleep well if the TV is on wailing away w/ that high-pitched noise.
InfiniteThought 10-25-07, 03:16 PM I watched Planet Earth on my new Toshiba HD-A2 last night. I can honestly say I was astonished by the images coming from my 73734!
The squeal is a lot quieter, but it's still noticeable and annoying in room. If it doesn’t go away tonight, I'm want to exchange it. I'm at 14 hours now.
What I would like to do is drive to Fry's, open a new 73734, plug it in, check for the squeal, if no squeal, they can deliver that unit to my house, and exchange. However, I doubt they'll agree to that.
I have played with calibration, it certainly could use it. The settings I'm running now is Natural, plug a little bump in color saturation and a little less sharpening to get ride of the halos. Some of the scenes from Planet Earth last night looked like giant film transparencies. The contrast in 300 on HDDVD 3was eye popping!
“It’s the mirrors!”
Has anyone had an insect crawl around on the inside of your screen? That happened to me last night. I hope he doesn’t die and get stuck to my screen!
Also, can someone provide me with a link to the service manual, or the service menu codes?
I'll take some nice screen shots after I get settled in.
Thanks,
Frank
wow, that's the third time someone has mentioned insects on the inside of their screen! this set has way fewer openings than my CRT HDTV has an I never had that issue....must have to do with DLP construction.
thanks for the tip on the 50 hour run time scenario.
the guys just picked mine up and they will be back in the a.m. with a new one. even if it has the hum, i will keep it over the weekend and run it for a few hours at a time.
I had it on all day on HDnet, HBO HD, etc. I just can't say it enough. the PQ is just astonishing, and my Pioneer HDTV CRT RPTV 65" was no slouch. I'll tell you, I will jump through some hoops to keep this set in my house....:D

Why go through all that hastle? Just call the local service tech and setup an appointment. Someone already posted a confirmed fix for this.
Add some tape to the ballast wires. They said it took the tech 15min.
my concern with the fix is whether the tech. you get knows anything about it. I think I would know a ballast if I saw one, but I would be depending on the tech. to know it when he saw it and where to apply the fix.
I know it sounds simple, just a concern.
I would feel MUCH better is Mitz put out a TSB on this so the tech. could download all the info. and know exactly what he was looking for when he got to my house....

Exactly.
I don't want a repaired new TV, I just want a new TV without this defect.
BTW: The squeal has gotten so quite I forgot about it. If I turn the volume down, I can barely hear it. I'll wait a few more hours and see if it continues to subside, I just don't want it to be intermitant. I want it to go away!
I'm about to try plugging in my computer into my 73734 to watch Brazilian GP qualifying. If you know any F1 results, DON'T TELL ME!
JetSnake 10-26-07, 02:56 AM If you know any F1 results, DON'T TELL ME!
Jeff Gordon won!!! In his stock car.
they delivered by 2nd 73734 this a.m. I have turned it off and on numerous times and run it for awhile and the only sound I hear is the low hum of the fan which is normal i would think.
no squeal on this set, fingers crossed.
after doing the CNET calibration and modifying a few things on my own(have not run the Video Essentials yet), it looks just as eye-popping as the first unit I had.
so slight pincushioning on non-HD channels.
I must say that running DVD upconverted to 1080p on the set makes me realize that DVD truly is only 480 lines of rez! Now I must have a combination player for Blu-Ray and HD DVD!

I agree. When the local serviceman came out to my house about a month ago to take a look at the squeal, he said he didn't know about this problem and nothing was posted in the form of a TSB from Mitsubishi.
I took the plunge and decided on a 65734 with a 4 year service plan from Amazon.com today. It is a refurbished unit and I hope it gets here before the Pats/Colts game on November 4th. If you guys ordered your TVs through them, how long did it take to get to you? Hopefully this refurbished TV will be free of all the problems I keep hearing about in this thread. Thanks for all the informative posts about this TV.
Calamus 10-26-07, 04:47 PM Joining the crowd, my 65734 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Hope I get a good one on the first roll.:)

My opinion (for whats its worth), is why take a risk on a new TV that could have far worse problems if you already have one that you like but just needs a minor repair.
I just got back from a customers home that had this problem. They turned from a snarreling angry dog to a purring kitten in the matter of 20 mins.
I called Mits tech hotline when I was there and they explained how to make the fix.
the CNET calibration
Anyone have the link to the page with the CNET settings?

How do you do the fix? Is it easy? Something I can attempt without series risk to my warranty?
ouch, turned on the replacement set this morning and after the honeymoon period of the first day, my little friend is back to visit me-the infamous, high pitched buzz.
anyone who has had the mitzu fix done(having the tech. wrap the wires leading into the ballast), have there been any situations where this has NOT resolved the problem?
I just can't part with this set. Was watching a Tivo HD recording of Pushing Daises last night(just an ok show, but with eye-popping colors). I had no idea what the show was even about, I was just enjoying the picture for an hour.
incredible...
thanks..
Dalonso66 10-27-07, 02:57 PM Well, I switched from a WD-57 that had the hum to a 57734 this week. And now I have the hi pitched noise (terror-iffic). The best way to explain the noise is it's kind of like that ringing you get in your ears after leaving a rock concert. Anyhow, a tech is coming on Monday to have a listen. I'll let you know if it gets resolved.
I have the hum too on this set but it's quieter by 6db and doesn't bother me right now. I measured it with my trusty Radioshack spl meter. The WD-57 came in at 66db fyi.
I actually thought about recording the noise with my shotgun microphone (I'm a sound mixer) but I it doesn't look like we can post audio files here. Upon request I'd be willing to record it and send it to anybody who's wondering if they have the noise. But chances are I'd think you'd hear it.
Feeling and HEARING your pain.
Danny
P.S. I'm extremely happy with the picture. And not noticing a difference in picture between the WD-57 and the 57734 by the way. But I never had the sets side by side to compare 'em. And I haven't had calibration done yet.
tlbauerle 10-27-07, 04:55 PM The high pitched ringing in my 65733 went away after a week. Then the extremely loud buzzing sound only remained. If your set only has a ringing, keep it on for a lot of hours over the next few days. You'd be surprised...but it should go away.

Thanks to all for the great info in this thread! I bought a 57734 from Fry's about 3 weeks ago and have had absolutely no problems thus far.

Thanks
Also can the set be iconnected to a laptop.. My laptop has only Vga out...
the party may be over for me. I have the squeal on my 2nd set. the dealer tells me they indeed have had returns.
called Mits. typical, 1st level, read the script.....
called the three authorized mitz. service centers in my area...one does not do in-home service. the two that do in-home have not heard of this problem, and would require taking the entire set or portions of it to their shop.
Not gonna do that with a brand new set.
Incidentally, the lead shop techs. as two of the locations told me they would NEVER wrap electrical tape anywhere need a ballast, as it is a fire hazard.....I'm just the messenger.
I'll ask my dealer if they want to try one more set. If so, I will give it a try, if not, I will get my money back and wait til later in the year when hopefully mitz. fixes this on the manufacturing line.
All of you who have xx734 and xx833 sets that don't have the problem, I envy you! A picture this good on a set this big-I didn't think it was possible. it's a real shame...
Dalonso66 10-29-07, 03:59 PM The so-called Mitubishi techs just left the house. They were supposed to fix the hi pitch noise. Instead they didn't want to call Mitubishi at all. They were worried about being on the phone for too long. This after they were 45 minutes late getting to my place. They wanted to take the set in to the shop and I just told them I'll try another repair company.
elrizzo 10-29-07, 04:29 PM Well why didn't you say so ;)
The 734 has a "game mode" which last years model didnt' have.
I used it a few times when I had my 734 and it seemed to add a little more contrast to the screen and also make things move a little smoother.
I have an Onkyo 605 feeding just one HDMI cable to the TV so my only gripe about it is you can only assign it to the input that is named "game".
:(
I have had my 65734 for about a month now but I have not come across a "game mode". I'm wondering if this just refers to naming one of the inputs as "game"? If so, maybe it will have an effect on the PQ.
Any comments?

Hipnotiq,
hey the messenger was wrong in this case. I am impressed, pictures and all!
do you have a link to where you found that? I want to get it over to the two local repair companies so they know exactly what to do....\I have searched for mitsubishi tech. in various ways and can't find anything
sounds like you are a pro and this may be a special website. If so, could you just send me more of the documentation for this?
thanks.
nivo885 10-30-07, 02:49 AM it's been since the 24th and I have yet to get a call from anyone about our service to the broken TV. So we have a couple of G's as a paper weight.
Hmm,, Now I am wondering if I should take it back and buy something new.. JVC, SONY, Samsung.
It also has the high pitched ear ring sound and the picture has vertical lines on it.
Hi,
can anyone please provide the TSB or fix #(not sure what Mits calls it) from the tech. website for the in-home repair of the squeal problem by applying electrical tape to the ballast wiring?
A post from hipnotiq above this one has a partial description of the fix, but I need the full info.
both Mits repair centers I have contacted need this info. as they say they can't find it out on the site.
thanks!
Will the xx734 units accept 1080p/24? I'm curious about this because I'm thinking about getting the LG BH100 Blu-Ray/HD DVD player. I've heard that very few TVs are fully compatible with it because of its 1080p/24 output.

Thank You VERY Much!
Will it make much difference anyway if these TVs aren't compatible with 1080p/24?
elrizzo 10-30-07, 03:21 PM this thread should be renamed, "27 pages of complaining and talking about the same issue over and over again"

Seriously?
Thanks to Hipnotiq for posting the fix! That looks easy. I will try that myself, although the squeal has reduced to only being audible in a quite room.
Anyone done this? Was it easy, any complications?
It would be nice to get ahold of a service manual to learn what the service menu commands do. Specifically I want to be able to tweak the color temp because "High" and "Low" are waaay off!
dddclark 10-30-07, 03:45 PM For me the high pitch noise disappears when I place a pillow or a blanket behind the unit.
However do not block airflow or create a fire hazard!
This was the best solution for me since this is my second set (the first had an alignment problem but no noise).

FAN-FRICKIN'-TASTIC!!!
I'm on the phone tomorrow to have my tech come out.
Hello all, I've had my 65734 for about 3 weeks and I started noticing what seems to be a blomming issue; or over saturation of whites in bright images. Intense explosions have like a white center or the sky in the background will wash out the image on that portion of the screen. Can anyone tell me if this is a problem with the tv or the images are being projected correctly.

I just cued up my tivo to that exact point in the Laker game and I have the bright reflection on the court too. The rest of the game looks great so I think it's just a bad reflection.

press MENU 1 2 3 and reset your TV. If whites are too bright you probably made some jacked up settings.
Can some post Pics of the Set with SD on it

elrizzo 11-01-07, 10:55 AM Does anyone know for sure what selecting "Game" as the input type does to the picture?
I have tried this and I dont notice an extreme difference but what it does do is take the place of "brilliant" in the picture options.
Im looking for a technical explanation of what it does.
Thanks
Thanks Hipnotiq for the response. I only made small basic changes to the settings but I tried the reset option anyway just to see if it would make a difference and it didn't. I don't see this all the time. It always seems to happen if there is brighter light in the background than in the main image; It almost seems like the beginning of a light engine problem. I'll try and post some pics of some HDDVD or BlueRay movies so maybe someone can make a better comparison.
nivo885 11-02-07, 12:04 AM Ok, Service guy came out today, saw the set and talked on how he has serviced more sonys lately and that they expanded the warranty due to light engine issues etc. anyways, he saw our 65734 and mentioned that it was not the light engine but the DM Board. He has seen this on the 65733 before but not the 65734 yet. Light engine seems ok. TV has 273 hours now. New DM Board on order from Mitsubishi and should be repaired next week. so our lines that are vertical is from a bad, and from what he said for a mitsu, rare DM Board failure.
Dalonso66 11-02-07, 01:54 AM I am not experiencing the fan hum, but I do have something weird happening. Whenever I change a channel or a DVD is playing and you skip a track or if the audio format changes (from menu to title) the TV makes a "popping" noise which seems to be coming from the bottom of the TV. It is not loud but can be heard when it is doing what was said above.
It does it once when the remote sends the first signal and then once the source(audio/video) has set itself, it makes the sound a second time.
The set is a brand new 65734 and I am using the HDMI inputs being fed from my Dish VIP211 HD box and a Rotel 1092 DVD player.
Any help would be great!!!
Yes I'm getting this too. I played quite a bit with variations on the digital audio outs from my Sony DVD player and can't get rid of it. It's a bit annoying. I'm using HDMI out and an optical out (both feeding a Pioneer 1016 Receiver). I couldn't get any audio out of the dvd player thru HDMI alone, so I ended up having to hook up the optical out.

I don't think so. I would say engine with 90% confidence.
Let us know the end result.
BTW - that model doesnt have a 'DM' board it only has a 'MAIN' board.

Yes I think he said Main board but I felt like saying DM Board for some reason it was stuck in my head, Once talking to the guy he showed me that the lines were not in the OSD. I didn't even take notice!
so all blue screens (from no signal) and OSD's don't have these lines through them.
I will report back with an answer as soon as we figure it out. Other then this he said, "not to be a mean guy but Mitsubishi is finally giving us business". He went on saying that Mitsubishi has been reliable for many yrs and still more reliable then Sony.
Hi folks,
tech. just left after doing the VS-75 electrical tape ballast fix.
tv is quiet as a church mouse. I will monitor over the weekend and if it remains this way, i will call HH Gregg on Monday and tell them I am keeping the set.
My noise was not intermittent, it was constant, so I am confident.
the tech. could not believe it. when he heard the sound he thought it was a color wheel.
I gave him the TSB printout for his future use with another customer.
a great guy, he was.
HYPNOTIQ, I just can't thank you enough for posting this fix for us. You may have single-handedly kept this 73" DLP wonder in my house. Time will tell, but I sure hope so.
thanks again.
Thugzie 11-03-07, 09:42 AM Hope it works out for you cajjnj. I'll definitely keep this fix in mind if my set begins to hum. Good work finding the fix HYPNOTIQ.
Dalonso66 11-03-07, 09:38 PM I had a 2nd tech come to my place to fix the hi pitch noise (which is now intermittent) and it wasn't acting up when he showed up of course. He swore it was probably the color wheel. I showed him the fix that HYPNOTIQ posted and he said "I've never seen that". So he said he was going to order a new color wheel and do the tape fix when the part comes in.
jjohns72 11-04-07, 01:41 AM the fix is listed on Mits tech website. Its official.
Anybody tried this on their own yet?
Thugzie 11-05-07, 12:26 AM Hey Fellas,
Finally here's a picture of my set up.

The entertainment center is pretty sweet. Media holder shelves on the end. The middle cabinet door has speaker mesh. It holds my powered sub woofer and middle surround speaker.
Here's a link for the cabinet that set me back $700.00.

The highlight on the tv is from the flash on the camera. The image is in only 480i :( My standard DVD player. HD from directv is on the way.
Oh yeah the tv is the 73734 :)
I made the call to HH Gregg this a.m., and am certainly keeping this set.
absolutely no "rock concert ear ringing" going on after 3 days since the fix.
who knew electrical tape could work such magic?
If it was not for this site and especially this thread, I would have pulled my hair out.
I can now enjoy this incredible set!!
thanks!
Jeff
I just got my TV in this morning. Long story short, the remote will not turn the TV on or off no matter what. It has brand new batteries in it, the little slide on top is switched over to "TV", and I've reset both the remote and the TV numerous times. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. I'm pissed. Please help. Do you have to program the remote to the TV somehow? I held the power button down until it blinked twice, pushed 00935 and it blinked twice again, then nothing.
Dalonso66 11-07-07, 12:34 PM Just check one thing before you go nuts. Is one of the buttons on the remote stuck under the faceplate at all? Sometimes when a button is stuck, it disables the rest of the remote. I had this happen on the Mits remote once.
Hmm, nothing stuck as far as I can tell. I input the code like it says in the owner's manual and get absolutely nothing. I am fixing to go nuts.
Calamus 11-07-07, 02:30 PM the fix is listed on Mits tech website. Its official.
Is this a fix for the squeal or the hum? My wife tells me ours hums, but my low frequency hearing is shot so "I" can’t hear it, but I want to keep the Misses happy :)
I see where the tape is a fix for the high pitch problem and not the hum

- Have you tried the power button on the front panle of the TV?
- Any light blinking on TV?
- Do a System Reset on front panel (see owner's manual)

Power button works, green light only blinks on TV for a minute or so after turning the unit on and then the picture comes on, and I already did a system reset and remote reset several times. I went ahead and ordered a Logitech 880 U. remote and it will be here tomorrow. Apparently these things are supposed to do a lot. We shall see.

If your remote is dead, you can call Mits and I think they send you a new one within a couple days.
However, if the remote lights are blinking (and turning red), then its probably not the remote.
Most likely the remote sensor or a connection in the TV.
gyver65 11-08-07, 01:15 PM I have the 57734 model and every since I have had the TV the green light blinks once every second when the TV is turned off. It never stops blinking. Should I be concerned about this? Does this indicate some type of problem or is it normal?
Thank you!

I think you're right because the Logitech is completely ineffective. Is this something I can fix myself on the TV? I'll probably need a service manual, huh?
C0Nfu5I0N 11-08-07, 09:37 PM Hello everyone,
I am new to this site/forum, so bare with me.
I just setup my 65734 which I got from Fry's last weekend for $1699. I also have a Toshiba XA2 DVD player hooked up to this via HDMI.
I am using the Lack TV stand from Ikea, which was $69. Looks pretty decent, fits almost perfectly, and can support up to 146 lbs.
I have a WII and saw a noticable difference when using a $20 "hi-res" 420P cable.
I have a few issues:
1. I have a small "speck" or spot on the inside of the screen which is barely visible on any light screen images. I read about some people flicking the screen, but this didn't do the trick for me. Any other suggestions? I do have the Fry's 5 year in home warranty.
2. I have a high pitch sound coming from the back. I am going to wait a few more days before giving a call to have it serviced, per the post from Hypnotiq, with regards to the "electrical tape" fix. Hope it goes away before I have to call.
3. This one is hard to explain, but I'll try. When viewing any high motion videos/movies, etc. I see what appears to look like a bend in the screen about 7 inches from the left side. It is not visible in all images or video, but if you look closely when alot of motion is happening, it looks like, what I would say is the screen being bent in slightly, or as if the video wasn't quite matching or flowing properly. Sorry for the terrible description, I don't really know how to explain it. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
The good:
The TV looks amazing with any HD-DVD or most HD channels with Time Warner HD digital cable.
I also calibrated using the suggested settings from CNet. (tried to post URL :) ) I personally like the contrast a little higher, but overall, not bad.
I will post some pictures shortly as I have alot of HD DVDs which look amazing.
Thanks for your advice in advance,
Gary
Okay, I have the service manual but I have no idea how to get the front panel off or what part number I would be looking for. Maybe I should do what I hate the most and call customer service and fight with them for the next week until they finally understand what I'm trying to tell them.
Apparently it is asking a lot to purchase a TV that will work with the remote that comes with it. This is insane.

If you remove the screen you can see the preamp. Check to make sure it is not covered up by anything and has a clear shot at the mirror.
Next, check the AN connector on the MAIN PWB. Make sure it is connected properly. If it is connected to the MAIN PWB and the PREAMP PWB then you will have to either replace the PREAMP pwb or the MAIN PWB.
good luck

IMHO, return it to Fry's if you can, and get a replacement. A brand new TV should work as expected out of the box and shouldn't need servicing on day one!!! It's a mixed bag with these Mitsu and you deserve to get one of the good ones -- if you're lucky and patient.
If I were you, I wouldn't mess with calling and waiting on tech's to fix what should have been designed properly and/or caught by a good QC process. I returned 3 sets prior to getting "lucky" with my 65734.
My screen is warped too. I checked out that whole PREAMP thing Hipnotiq was talking about and the little white plug-in thingy (sorry, I work as an accountant for a living, I'm not an electronics buff) wasn't plugged into the PREAMP properly. Now that it is, I'll have to try the remote again in a little while. I haven't put the screen back on yet because I'm looking for possible fixes for the screen warping.
Dalonso66 11-09-07, 09:07 PM Why does the Deep field imager get such a bad rap? I've heard people say it crushes blacks, but to me it makes the picture pop. When I have it in demo mode, the side with it off looks like it's got a dark film over it. Is it a matter of settings or viewing material? Or maybe it's better on for sports but off for films. I'd be curious to find out what others think.

indy sabre 11-09-07, 10:06 PM Just wanted to post back after 2 months of ownership......everything is working fine here on my 65734.
No hum or high Freq noise and the picture is very good.
That fixed it. All I had to do was plug that damn plug in and now the remote works just fine. Now I'm going to try to fix the screen geometry issues.
otismalibu 11-11-07, 09:01 AM Is there any brand of memory stick one would recommend for the Mitsubishi? I just picked up a cheap stick (Dane Elec) at Target, but it won't work on my Mits.
Appreciate your time,
Greg

I just bought a Mitsu 73734 from CC. I agree it has an awesome picture, but in setting up all my components I have run into a wall trying to include a Samsung VR 325 combo DVD/VCR recorder player. In a previous setup using an Olevia LCD display I could record on my DTV HD/DVR and then at a later date burn the recorded material to a disc. I can't seem to figure out a way to do this on the -734 as there are not video outputs from the TV. I can always go back to the way I had it with the Olevia TV but I'd rather not. Anywaone have any ideas how to set this up?
Thanks,

Why don't you Go HDMI to the TV out of the HD DVR and Component out of the DVR to the Samsung? Or does using one disable the other?

Lancair 11-11-07, 07:14 PM I tried that and you're right.....its one or the other....can't have both. This is a real bummer.

nivo885 11-13-07, 07:15 PM Service guy finally got the part yesterday.
Came in today to put in the part. The part ordered was the Main PC Board.
It was replaced and it fixed the Vertical lines on our tv (65734).
Definitely reset many settings in the service menu from what I could tell. Like when you first enter 2-4-5-7 and get the screen adjust, before it was like 65535 now it's 0 etc...
I know the set doesn't look as sharp now. any service menu focus?
a bit darker then before.

Thanks,
DOug
Does the DVR have two output sources? You could run one to the TV via HDMI and the other to your recorder via another source.

Can anyone recommend one that will suffice, but is not too spendy?
2) What % of buyers on here opt for the extended warranty? I didn't (57734) but from what I've been reading, many do.

I did the extended warranty and bulb on my mits 65833

I bought an extended warranty with my 65734 (5 yr for $299) and it includes 1 bulb replacement. These TVs have mechanical moving parts (color wheel) and the bulb would certainly need to be replaced in my case before 5 yrs, so looking at the cost of the bulb alone vs. warranty, it was an easy "investment" to make.

I will be buying an extended warranty with bulb replacement. I did buy a UPS for my TV, its not necessary if you dont loose power that often. Since I live in a new construction neighborhood I sometimes lose power every now and then. Stupid construction workers distrubing my tv time.
JoeyTampa 11-14-07, 06:48 PM I have the 73734. My eye level is about 41 inches. Would a 24 inch (H) stand be too high?
Mr Snappy 11-15-07, 10:47 AM So,
After months of researching and endless trips to multiple stores, I finally decided the best TV for me was the 65" 734. I have read all the threads and the horror stories of satanic humming and wonky geometry, so this choice is not without some risk. I also bought it from an online vendor half-way across the country.....but I have done this on the last 3 TV's I have bought and (Knock on wood) I have had good luck with all of them.
I am switching from a Toshiba TX-HDTV RPTV that I bought almost 9 years ago. That TV is still working and has never had a service call. I will keep it to put one of my game systems on for my boys to play (They don't get to play dad's XBOX 360 unless Dad is there :)
I was going to get the 733, but after going to one store that had the 733 and the 734 playing the same source data at the same time, I could actually tell a difference in the picture. It was enough of a difference that I would have second guesseed myself everytime I turned on the 733. So I popped for the extra couple of hundred and went the "Medallion" route.
In case you are curious, here are some of the others I looked at and the reason I didn't go that route. Apolagies to the owners of these other sets, nothing personal, but we are all driven by different needs/wants.
1. Sony A3000. I thought hard about this one, but in general, I think Sony's tend to be overpriced for what they offer. The A3000 was a beautiful set, but in the end, I could not justify more money for the smaller set. When I bought my Toshiba back in 98, the Sony HDTV RPTV's were a joke. They certainly have come along way and I was very impressed.
2. Samsung LED PRTV. Boy I like the engineering here and the lower Total Cost of Ownership. However, I have a top-of-the-line Samsung fridge and the customer support has been the worst of any product I have ever bought. Nice people, but they have no idea how to provide support or how to stock adequate supplies of parts or have trained repair techs. Also, I actually have a 19" LCD HDTV that they gave me when I bought this high-end fridge....The TV sucks and I pulled it from the bedroom last night to ebay the damn thing. User interface stinks, does not hold settings, display too small, stupid blue light will not go off (yes, I tried the settings, the TV won't save preferences)
So Sammy (if you are listening) You lost future sales on your decisions on customer support. I am not mad, but there are too many other quality companies for me to chose from to put up with bad service from you.
3. Toshiba. God how I wished they were still in the DLP game. I have loved all of my Toshiba products, but I won't buy a 2-year old model that was probably a return.
4. Panasonic. Believe it or not, these are VERY hard to find in my part of the world (Kansas City) I could only find one model at Costco and the size was not right. I have heard wonderful things about Panny, but they just were not available around here to compare.
5. LCD / PLASMA. I like the tech, but IMHO, still not as good as a large DLP...and the prices YIKES !!!
Did any of you buy your TV from Amazon.com? If so, how was the customer service?
I'm asking because I'm having some irritating issues with my TV. I bought a refurbished 65734 through them and it has the following problems:
- LOUD humming that can be heard in the next room and in the same room even if the volume is turned up to like 15 or 16.
- The screen is deformed and is not flat and straight like it should be.
- The picture has geometry issues near the top and tends to smile or bow. This is apparent even when the picture takes up the entire screen so it is pretty bad.
- I notice a pretty major silk screen effect or SSE even on blue and other non-white pictures but white is EXTREMELY bad. Its hard to describe but it is like there is glitter on the damn screen.
- It did have the high pitched whine until I did the electrical tape fix described earlier in this thread.
- The remote didn't work either until I took the screen off and plugged the preamp in.
Anyway, I have called and emailed Amazon twice about either fixing or replacing the TV and they keep trying to tell me that I can only return it for a refund even though I bought a service plan from them for it. They want to give me a full refund but make me pay for shipping it back to them.
When I told them about the problems over the phone, they responded as if they had no idea what I was talking about. I HATE OUTSOURCING!!! The idiots said that the TV does have a screen and that they would offer a refund. They told me this useless crap over and over again. If you have used Amazon before, were you able to reach a competent, English-speaking manager of some kind?

Ouch! Not an easy situation, I'd say.
I haven't had to deal with Amazon post order delivery (have bought electronics from them but not a TV), so can't help there.
You mention you have an extended warranty on the refurbished set. As inconvenient as it might seem, have you contacted the warranty company and/or Mitsubishi?
See, that is the thing. I placed the order for the TV and for the service plan through Amazon.com. Apparently the TV was shipped by Warehouse Deals, which seems to be part of Amazon.com since they have no other contact information other than THROUGH Amazon.com. The service plan is through newcorp.com but I never received anything about it in the mail. All I have is an order number for the service plan through Amazon.com with an emailed link to the terms and conditions of my service plan contract.
I also found the following quote interesting from an Amazon.com service rep.
"I'm sorry, but because Warehouse Deals' inventory is constantly changing, we're unable to replace any items sold through Warehouse Deals."
Call me crazy, but their service plan calls for "fix or replace" and NEVER says anything about a refund.
I'm starting to think that they are not only stupid, but they are also giving me the runaround on this.
EDIT: This article pretty much confirms that "Warehouse Deals" is part of Amazon.com. Yet they are trying to tell me that they can't replace what they sell. Maybe they just don't want to replace my refurbished unit with a new one since it would cost them more money or something.

This link is for Warehouse Deals and is off Amazon.com and points customer service to amazon.com as well as returns. I'd call back Amazon and get on their case; I'd also follow up re: service plan and work it in parallel. Fyi, 65734 off Warehouse Deals storefrony shows it as unavailable.

I assume you purchased using a credit card, so I'd escalate via that angle, too.
Good luck!
Thanks. I received a response telling me to contact the seller, which I've already done 3 times. The person telling me this was named Ashutosh Shukla so go f'n figure. I guess I'll just have to keep bugging the hell out of them until they comply. Either that or I'll send them a demand letter or possibly sue them. My dad is a lawyer and I know my way around his legal documents pretty well so I can do it for free and hopefully get Amazon's attention in the process.
Due to their HORRIBLE customer service, I do not recommend buying a large item such as one of these TVs through them. They can barely understand what you tell them thanks to outsourcing, thus making the situation 100 times more difficult than it needs to be. I wish I had purchased this TV through Best Buy or Circuit City so I could at least talk to someone who has a firm grasp of the English language if a problem occurred. Hindsight being 20/20, the extra $500 is almost worth it to deal with someone who understands basic words and phrases in English. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for and I think this is one of those times. I may just return it for a full refund and go to Best Buy or Circuit City if I keep getting nowhere with Amazon.
lawnpatio 11-16-07, 09:07 AM Ordered the 65734 yesterday through Vanns. It included a Harmony 550 remote for free (which I was planning on purchasing anyway). Crossing my fingers that everything arrives damage-free and defect-free....
dlm10541 11-16-07, 09:49 AM Thanks.

TJ Just return it for full refund and be done with it. I doubt you can bully Amazon into a new unit when you bought a refurbished one. If they do not have another refurb to replace it with then you can get it fixed through Mitsubishis warranty or return it to Amazon for full refund.
Very reasonable to me.
FWIW I purchased this display new from Amazon and everything went smoothly
Mr Snappy 11-17-07, 10:56 AM I am curious.
With all the talk about the humming in this and the 733 thread, was the consensus that this issue is ongoing and effects all the 73X Tv's or was it an early production issue? Maybe people just got tired of compaining or people are now just accepting the hum as "normal"? Seems like their is less chat about it in the later pages of posts....
tlbauerle 11-17-07, 10:58 PM The problem is fairly wide spread as many different sizes of wires made it onto the production line and they have only one size ferrite bead. Mitsubishi is no longer calling the hum normal.
slawrence 11-18-07, 01:40 AM keep in mind the hum is the high pitch noise, not a fan hum.
JoeyTampa 11-18-07, 06:58 PM Does the Deep Field Imager work on the natural setting? When I put the demo on bright or brilliant, you can see the line down the middle separating when it's on and when it's off. But on natural, there is no line, it looks the same on both sides.
pisacksen 11-18-07, 09:42 PM Ok, newby question here. Got a 73734 with a yama V3800. Trying to get the mitsu speakers the play the analog audio that matches the HDMI video output.
So, HDMI video. Where do I plug in the stereo audio cords that would enable the sound to come out of the mitsu builtin speakers?

I guess you are right. That is the only option they are giving me so I guess I'll ask for a full refund without a deduction for shipping since they shipped a defective unit. I'll also ask for a refund on my protection plan since they completely ignored my request for them to utilize it.
Oh well, I've got enough money (with the refund) for the 73734 so I'll probably buy it at a store that doesn't outsource their customer service if that kind of company still exists.
Hopefully it will have better HD picture quality than my old Vizio too, lol. My 65734 damn sure doesn't. I watched the Packers/Panthers game with my friend on my old 37" Vizio and the picture on that "econo-tv" blew away the picture on my 65734. Seriously. I guess by "refurbished" , Amazon really meant "a piece of junk that a couple people returned and we're hoping that some idiot that doesn't know any better will buy this one."
That said, are you having any issues with screen geometry (bowing), SSE, humming, or anything else that is unacceptable with your new 734? I am very disappointed with this one. Hopefully the new 73734 will be night and day different from this refurbished 65734.

I had some geometry issues but they were correctable in the service menu. All RPTVs will display some geometry issues especially now that everyone is downsizing (and weakening) the enclosures.
I still have the hum issue but it is correctable. A servicing dealer is taking care of it.
keep in mind the hum is the high pitch noise, not a fan hum.
Some people are getting a loud, deep hum too though. I know I did. I can still barely hear the high pitched squeal but there is definitely another louder, deeper hum there.

Yeah I have a deeper hum that mits claims is normal but you can barely hear or not at all when volume is up.
Wow, I can hear mine humming even during Monday Night Football with the volume at 15 or 16. It is LOUD. Either that or I have super sensitive hearing, which I seriously doubt.
I've found some good deals on the 734 but I'm thinking about upgrading to the 833. I checked into the 73" model some more but I can't justify spending an extra $1,000 for 8 more inches of screen. The 65833 averages about $400 more than the 65734 from what I've seen so far and I can live with that.

The one mentioned at Costco with the stand is the C657 (exclusive to Costco) and is lower than 65734 and 65733.
Costco offers the 65734 online (haven't seen 65734 in B&M costco) for $2199 shipped without a stand and includes their 2 yr warranty.

If they agree to a full refund and they pay for return shipping, take it and run! Isn't this what you initially requested?
Their website is: ...
here is the whole thing
Wait wait wait... this is a fix for the problem that people have been complaining about for the past 3-4 months and only one person actually found it useful enough to say thank you? Weird... Well, I'll probably be making use of this in the future, so thank you for posting this for us.
Anyway, my parents just bought a 57743 without doing much research so I came on here to do some homework on the thing before it got here. Sounds like it is a nice looking set with a few weird issues that should be a breeze to fix.
They only have a one year limited warranty on the TV, does anyone think they should they look at trying to get an extended warranty? They bought from ShopNBC.com by the way...
If they agree to a full refund and they pay for return shipping, take it and run! Isn't this what you initially requested?
I initially requested a fix or replacement but they didn't want to do that. I even mentioned the fact that I had purchased a $280 service plan through them as well but they completely ignored it and forced the return. So, I went ahead and purchased a 65833 today through Costco so when I get it and make sure it works properly, I'll return the 65734 to Amazon and request that they don't charge return shipping and that they also refund the price for my service contract as well. I had no idea Amazon's customer service was so poor. It is highly rated but that must be due to small items such as books because it is horrible when it comes to big items.
What I don't get is that I purchased the TV and the service plan through Amazon.com, all the receipts and invoices have Amazon.com on them, and yet they tell me that if I have a problem that they can't do anything. They have told me repeatedly to contact the seller when they are the seller. When I finally found out how to "contact the seller" it was through them to either Amazon.com-Warehouse Deals or Amazon.com-Newcorp. if what I just typed confuses you, welcome to my world because it is confusing me too.
I bought that old Vizio through Costco and the customer service was flawless so I'm hoping for the same kind of service this time around as well. Oh well, I guess its time for me to go over to the xx833 thread. Thanks for the help.

I actually have the 833 but its very similar to the 734. I can hear it at volume 16/17 when there is a quiet scene. But for stuff like Monday Night Football I can never hear it.
Yeah we all have sensitive ears when you are subconsciously thinking about it. My wife keeps telling me to basically shutup and stop complaining.
dlm10541 11-19-07, 07:10 PM The service man who looked at mine said it was not normal. He owns a small A/V shop (MITS dealer) and does the service work himself. He is talking to Mits tomorrow and we will see.
Personally I think it is the same problem with the ferrite beads in the ballast assembly. I am getting a matching stand from him and I may ask to have the leads wrapped as a fix when he delivers it

LOL I'm sure mine would tell me the same thing if I had one. I'm normally not one to complain but when I spend $1,500+ on a TV, the damn thing better work properly. I've seen this model and several others in stores and that is how I know that mine is really screwed up. The 65734 I saw at Best Buy a couple weeks ago was connected to DirecTV 1080i on Monday Night Football and it DESTROYS mine in PQ. The SSE on mine is so bad that it makes the entire picture look grainy (especially during fast moving scenes like football) and the one at Best Buy looked like I was looking through a window. I had the tech check the settings on it, I wrote them down, then I went home and put the same thing on my TV. There is no comparison.

I looked into the 73" as well but I made the decision to go with another 65" because the 73" was around $1,000 more at most stores. I'm sure the 73" is nice and I may make the trade someday but a 65" screen will work just fine for me for now. 65" is huge when you have to watch TV on a smaller TV for a while. I had to watch this past Sunday's NFL games on a 37" Vizio and even though the picture quality blew my defective 65734 away, I still missed the WAY bigger screen. YMMV but I thought 8" of screen wasn't worth $1,000 more.;)
Mr Snappy 11-19-07, 09:59 PM Costco has the 65 inch with the stand for $1800. Good deal?
That is NOT the Wd-65734. It is a closer match to the WD-65733 without the third HDMI port.

Well, you Vizio probably "blew it away" because of it's small size. You can hide alot of SSE, SDE, and motion blurring with smaller size. I not suggesting that your Vizio is not a good TV, I'm suggesting that with a 65" screen size, you will see some problems. The question is how does the Mitsu 65" compare to the others in that size range?

bigdee3 11-20-07, 03:53 AM Casino Royale - BlurayIs this set professionally calibrated?
I had some geometry issues but they were correctable in the service menu. All RPTVs will display some geometry issues especially now that everyone is downsizing (and weakening) the enclosures.
I still have the hum issue but it is correctable. A servicing dealer is taking care of it.
I'm also having some geometry issues. Can you please describe the service menu settings that you changed? Maybe those can help some others out there with the same issue...like me!
Thanks.
The Vizio blew this particular unit away and the store models like mine (65734), set up just like mine blew it away as well. There is definitely something wrong with this one. If I had a good camera I would show you guys.
I'm also having some geometry issues. Can you please describe the service menu settings that you changed? Maybe those can help some others out there with the same issue...like me!

From another thread:
"Enter the Service Menu at your own risk.
- Press "menu"
- While on the menu screen press 2 4 5 7 wait 2 seconds then press 0
- You'll see 5 menu selections at the top of the screen
- Arrow down to "MANUAL KEYSTONE GEOMETRY ALIGNMENT" and press the "enter" button
- You will come to a black screen with overscan lines around the perimeter and two vertical lines at the 4:3 bar location
- Seeing this screen, you'll probably want to adjust the perimeter also which is the first part of these instructions. If not, read on through to the end which will get you to the 4:3 bar adjustment.
- There are adjustment points along the perimeter ("+" marks)
- The first point you're at when you arrive to the screen is the upper left corner
- Adjust that point (if needed) by pressing the up/down/left/right arrow keys in the direction you need that point to move to straighten any irregularities there. You won't see any of the lines move at this point, just the "+" pointer.
- You access the "+" points in a clockwise direction from the starting point by pressing "fast forward" (to the right of "play") on the remote to move to the next adjustment point. Adjust the pointer at the next point if needed in the same manner (up,down, left right) then on to the next point.
- "Fast Rewind" will move you backwards, point to point, headed back to the starting point.
- Since you don't see the results of your adjustments onscreen, you'll have to press "enter" which will return you to the Geometry menu screen, then "enter" again to get you back to the adjustment screen. Then you'll see the results. You'll be going back and forth like this quite a few times. NOTE: If you make an adjustment on a point and press "enter", that adjustment won't take. Make sure before you "enter" out to the menu, that you fast forward or rewind to the next point first.
- To adjust the two 4:3 vertical bars, "fast forward" all the way around to the starting point. Once there, you'll be in the 4:3 bar adjustment mode. The next "fast forward" press will make both 4:3 lines move. Just keep pressing "fast forward / rewind" until you get the bars straight as possible. Press "enter" to get back to the menu screen. If you are finished, press "exit"."
I've heard that using the INFO button on the remote makes the settings take effect as well but I'm not totally sure on that. Maybe someone else can clarify that.
rx74ray 11-20-07, 03:24 PM Is this set professionally calibrated?
no, what you see is the settings out the box. video mode is on Brilliant. source is PS3 - HDMI.
dlm10541 11-20-07, 03:34 PM For those with the hum my servicing dealer talked to Mitsubishi today and they said the hum (sometimes high piched) is from the ferrite beads in the ballast assembly vibrating. They said to apply the electrical tape fix as previously spelled out here.
Tj, thanks for the help! I'll try it out now.
bigdee3 11-21-07, 04:25 AM no, what you see is the settings out the box. video mode is on Brilliant. source is PS3 - HDMI.The picture mode says it all! I'm torn between this set and the Sony A3000.
Thugzie 11-21-07, 07:09 AM Quoted from Cnet's website, here are the differences in the models.
733 series
Models
57-inch WD-57733
65-inch WD-65733
73-inch WD-73733
Features
Three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification
Three component video inputs (two rear, one front)
USB port for photo viewing
734 series
Models
57-inch WD-57734
65-inch WD-65734
Features
Same as the 733 series, plus:
PerfectTint, for additional customization of display settings.
NetCommand, which is designed to let the TV control a rack full of A/V gear, much like a universal remote.
An additional front HDMI input.
"Diamond" 833 series
Models
57-inch WD-57833
65-inch WD-65833
73-inch WD-73833
Features
Same as the 734 series, plus:
FireWire port
RS-232 input
Smooth120Hz, which appears to be Mitsubishi's name for 120Hz refresh rate. A 120Hz refresh rate supposedly creates a smoother image during fast-motion scenes, although we have yet to test it with Mitsubishi or other manufacturers.
TV Guide On Screen, a built-in electronic program guide.
Game FX, which is 3D gaming functionality, although there are no current titles that support it.
Most of us have had to decide between the 733,734,and 833. GlocksRock's gave a great detailed answer. Let me give you my take & cliff notes verison. The 734 has a couple more features then the 733 like the dark detailer. In some cases you can find the 734 CHEAPER then the 733 but you have to look around. The 734 is a 60Hz tv.
The main (& I think) only difference between the 734 and 833 is the 833 is a 120Hz tv. Which means you'll have better gaming experience (xbox, PS3, etc). It's about $800.00 more. So if you don't game or it's not a priority then I would seriously pass on the 833.
If you have the space I would definitely go w/ the 73734. The wow factor of a 73" tv is pretty high.
Regarding price I got mine in September for 3,200 that included shipping, tax, and a 5 yr protection plan w/ annual bulb replacement. If you're really ready to jump I'd get out to every TV store I could on this Friday morning to see what kind of Christmas incentives are out there. I'd be willing to bet you can find the 73734 around 2,600.00.
Randy Englehart 11-21-07, 09:41 AM Hi,
I will be ordering a 73734 on Friday. I'm waiting to see if Vann's cuts their price from $2999 which seems to be the going price. My question is what extended service contract did you get that gives you 5yrs and an annual bulb change?
Thanks, Randy

Thugzie 11-21-07, 11:17 AM Randy I purchased through Grant's Electronics, a smaller shop still a mits authorized dealer though. I had them competing with ABT and eventually the salesman at Grants asked me if I would purchase today if he threw everything together for 3240 (to be exact). I said, "write it up" :)
Anyways, I would check abt electronics, fry's (in store! not just the web site. They offer different prices and I've seen the 73734 at Fry's for 2600), Grants, HH Gregs, and Circuit City. If you find a deal online most store's in your area will match the price provided the online store is an authorized mits dealer.
After about 60 days and probably 250 hours of use the TV is still a champ! The only caution is the noise issue some sets seem to have. Now that the fix it out and it looks very easy to do I'd say buy the 73734 w/out fear. Also for what it's worth I heard the newer sets are less likely to have the "hum" noise. I think the production date is on the box. So IF you have a choice at the store pick the most recently produced set. I didn't have that option and it worked fine for me.
Good Luck
rx74ray 11-21-07, 03:08 PM The picture mode says it all! I'm torn between this set and the Sony A3000.
I would really recommend this unit. for the same price as the sony you get atleast 10 more inches on the size. when you watch HD you never regret buying the mitsu. in particular I really like the RICH color of this set. I got more pics coming very soon. :D
Mr Snappy 11-21-07, 06:16 PM ....it's here :)
I will post more later, but let me give you some quick impressions...
1. NO HUM !!!!!!! YEEE HAW !!!!
2. The picture out of the box is stunning, not sure I will tweak it much
3. SD compared to my old CRT HDTV RPTV sucks, but I can live with it.
4. Sound REALLY SUCKS
5. HD is simply amazing
6. Matching stand is great....pricey, but great.
7. The place I bought it from, the one I had to make ONE CALL to reach, did price match a sale they had over the weekend, saved me $100
8. Setting up my upconverting DVD player that has never had a set capable of showing a 1080i signal demonstrated that the DVD player was broken (in upconvert mode)
9. Went and bought the Costco HD-D3 player....WOW ($180 and comes with 2 freed HDDVD and 5 more free via mail-order)
10. I am blown away by this TV....man, am I glad I took the leap.
There was one big suprise I did not like. Even though I had seen pictures of the inputs/outputs, I just assumed that it would have a TOS/Optical out...IT DOESNT !!!! So, I had to run seperate Op Links to my reciever for the HD-DVD and the Cable box (Xbox 360 gets screwed on this one)
More to come...

Congratulations! I was wondering when yours would show up.
Sounds like you got a winner!!! BTW, online inventory for the 65734 seems low.
This was one purchase I was hesitant to make (based on 3 bad C657 sets), but boy am I glad I took the plunge! E N J O Y!!!!

Hi Thugzie,
Thanks for the suggestions. You've been a big help. Two days to order time and I'm starting to have second thoughts between the 734 and 833 again. Still think I'll save the money and buy the 734. I'm going to look at prices at Fry's, although they are not around here so it will be internet only. I've checked CC and I'll also check the net for Grant's. I checked out HHGregg and they were higher than Vann's. Vann's is where I planned on buying. I will take your suggestion and ask about shipping the TV with the latest production date if they'll listen to me. My stand and HD-A3 are on the way and I get DISHHD next Saturday, so it's all coming together. Thanks for the help, Randy
Bill Millar 11-21-07, 10:40 PM One thing I will say is that the Mitsubishi has one of the best pictures I have seen. My dislike is that I have a Dish network 622 receiver I use an HMI cable out to the TV but only get 2 channel stereo using the digital line out of the TV to my Pioneer receiver, so I have to use an optical cable on the satellite box, but the TV puts out 5.1 dolby in stereo from local OTA HD channels, using the same digital cable.. Also my old TV was a Sony and you could just go from video to video to see what was on. On the new TV you have to bring up the video screen and choose which video feed you want to use.

Joe65734 11-22-07, 01:06 AM So anyone had his xx734 professionally calibrated? Do you mind posting the significant changes incl. service menu gains?
I tweaked mine based on some of the posts and really like the picture (maybe ought to post some pics), but I'm just curious what changes a professional calibration has yielded on these 734 sets.
jonscrazyan 11-22-07, 01:27 AM xx734 is not recognized by ati catalyst control center properly. CCC detects that tv as a digital panel (lcd moniter) and not a hdtv dlp. So overscan scaling is not avalible in ati driven htpcs. I believe custom resolutions can be set for 1080i and 720p, but I havent tried because I want 1080p. This results in the taskbar amoung other things being cut off the screen. Just thought I would let everyone know. The set is amazing, as a side note :)
kelly03 11-22-07, 02:01 AM I have a 65734 on order and am looking for a low priced stand. I was going to buy the Ikea Lack Tv unit stand (58" wide) but the shipping is over $200. Does anyone know if the Mitsubishi MB62528 stand will work with the 65734 as I can find that stand for a reasonable price. The dimensions of the stand are big enough but I am concerned as I think these stands have customized cut outs for the TV to stand on and the stand is not built for the 65734. Thanks.

Hi,
I researched stands until my eyes bugged out. I am getting a 73734 and was looking at the matching stand but found it way to expensive. One thing to keep in mind is the actual footprint of the 65734 will fit easily on a stand for a 50" TV. I don't remember the spec for it but you can find it on Mitsubishi website.
I ended up getting a Plateau stand at a store called GET BO BO. It was $400 at the cheapest site I could find on the net and then I ran into this store. They have it on sale right now for $300 with free shipping. It measures 64" and what I like about it is it is only about 17" high. That heighth makes my view from the couch about center screen. Good luck.
Randy
Just started looking today for all the deals and researching brands etc...Mitsu was my original pick but then read a lot of reliabilty complaints. Loved my last Mitsu which had to sucoome to a flood. Looked at Sammy's....lots of bowing complaints...back to Mits. This TV will be parked in my home theatre basement as primary TV...when watching movies I will be using a projector where the screen will lower in front of the TV. So it doesn't have to be excellent...just nice. I've just found the 65734 with warranty from reputable online company for 1400....free shipping! I'm guessing I should buy it today? Thoughts?
just wanted to mention that I had the hum fix performed about 3 weeks ago, and the set is still stone quiet, which is great.
I am just continually blown away by the PQ of this set, and at this point the best input I have is 1080i HD from TW cable upconverted to 1080p in the set.
Once the whole BD/HD DVD situation gets more stable, I can't wait to try native 1080p material on this set.
I've had it a month, and I still feel the PQ is very, very close to my Panasonic 42" 1080i plasma-acutally, I think the blacks are superior. The blacks this set produces makes anything in the foreground just jump out, almost like 3d.
If anyone is sitting on the fence regarding this set, you will NOT be sorry!
Jeff.
49GS400 11-22-07, 01:30 PM Does any one know if you can purchase Mitsu 65734 extended warranty from someplace else. Pretty much the site that sells the tv doesnt have a great warranty plan for california residents - no onsite service or bulb replacement.
Can I just purchase an extended warranty for the mitsubishi or another reputable company. Anyone with experience in this?

I really like the TV. Only real complaint is the sound....it is baffling how bad it is. Thank god I have a nice Kenwood sound set up.
As far as the price you found, that is crazy low. Make sure you are talking the 734 and not the 733.
Joe65734 11-22-07, 03:00 PM For those on the fence or looking for a price match, TigerDirect via Amazon has the 65734 for $1399 w/ free shipping. It's a steal at this price and don't know how long it'll last! I paid $1859 in Oct.

Yeah, TV sound from built-in speakers is horrible. I almost never listen to the TV itself as I use the AVR. Sound via dig coax from OTA HD is fantastic. I have found that increasing bass to almost highest and keeping treble at 31 with stereo mode (not surround) makes the sound from TV speakers better; it's not great, it just sucks less. However, I just don't care for it. Even my 4 yr-old wants the AVR surround on when watching!
Why does the Deep field imager get such a bad rap? I've heard people say it crushes blacks, but to me it makes the picture pop. When I have it in demo mode, the side with it off looks like it's got a dark film over it. Is it a matter of settings or viewing material? Or maybe it's better on for sports but off for films. I'd be curious to find out what others think.
Danny
I think the DFI is GREAT! I have tried it on/off with several sources and leave it on all the time. makes all foreground objects appear as though they are right in my living room. I think the blacks on this set are fantastic and have also tested dark scenes with SD DVD and cable HD material and again, I don't see where the blacks are getting impacted by DFI at all.
powerplyer 11-22-07, 03:26 PM Hello,
I took the plunge into the Mits 65734. I want to prepared for when the TV arrives and I hear the pitching sound. Do I need any special tools to get the to the ballast? Does it void the mfg warrenty if I do this? I have read thru the 30+ pages in this thread and want to do some carlibrations any suggestions?
BTW I am replacing a Sony 60XBR950, mainly because it only have one DVI port. Otherwise is a great TV. Wish I had a basment to put it in? :)
Joe....thats where I'm buying it from today. Yeah it looks like a stupid deal....and it is the 734 confirmed it with a search on the SKU and the online documentation that Tiger supplies.....ok DONE! I'm buying!

Ditto here. I initially had DFI off b/c of what I've read in other posts, but I think it was w/ last year's models so don't know if that has anything to do with it. I keep DFI on and I like the 3D effect/pop. While at it, contradictory to what other posts also claim, I keep Sharpness at anywhere between 20-30 (although on my previous CRT RP Mitsu I've kept at 0) and it makes for a clearer picture w/o getting grainy.
Thugzie 11-22-07, 09:49 PM Anyone looking for the 73733 or a pretty good deal on a 73" check out the price on this link on Friday.

The price should drop $500.00 for Friday only.
KillaB3E 11-22-07, 11:42 PM Wooo hoo!!
I just bought the 65733 + 4 yr. warranty from BB online from the Thanksgiving day sale ad. The TV will be going in our living room when our house is done and ready to move into in a few weeks. The TV will mostly be used by my wife, as I'm getting another TV for the gameroom (my room ;) ). This will be our first HDTV, so we are both excited and I know I got a pretty good deal from BB.
So as happy and excited as I am about buying this TV, we'll have to wait a few weeks to test it out. We aren't having it delivered until after we close on the house.
Thanks to everyone on these forums for all your comments / info on this TV. You helped me a lot in making my purchase.

Markman07 11-23-07, 02:28 PM Here is where I got my extended warranty over a year ago. It wasn't for this TV and I haven't had to use it yet (including for bulb). My brother actually purchase the WD-65734 today so I was checking it out here! :-)
http://tapeworkstexas.com/mack_warranty_combo.html but I recall I found it suggested here! It was a few hundred cheaper than the one that BestBuy was trying to sell.
brownru 11-23-07, 03:27 PM I have a question that maybe someone can answer here. I have noticed that this is not just the WD-xx734 forum. I am debating between the WD65734 and WD73733. The room this TV will be going in is big enough for the 73" (24X22) but I had my concerns on the difference in the 733 vs. 734 features. I read what the differences are but I just wanted to hear from someone that has either or. Anybody have any opinions/suggestions? Thanks in advance!
breeze67 11-23-07, 03:30 PM Hello! I am new here! I purchased a brand new WD-65734 Mitsubishi HDTV from Tigerdirect.com yesterday for $1399. Shipping was free and I did not have to pay any tax! I can't wait for the TV to arrive! Has anyone found a price this good on this tv? I went back to check out the site today and the tv is no longer available. I think I got quite a deal! breeze67 11-23-07, 03:44 PM I have a question that maybe someone can answer here.
This link may help!....

Mr Snappy 11-23-07, 05:33 PM Hello! Will I be happy with this TV? Are those of you with this TV happy with it?
I could not find the WD-65734 at that site. I did find this
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3325328&CatId=1830
That model (Wd-C657) is NOT the 734. Hope I did not ruin your day, but that is closer to the 733. Pull up the manual that they have on that link and you can tell the difference between them, namely the 4th HDMI port in the front.
Also, I wish you luck with that site, I have not heard good things about them.
Mr Snappy the one your now seeing on TigerDirect is not what was being sold yesterday. It was indeed the 734 verified by the SKU number they also provided on their site and it did sell out by yesterday evening. Bought mine before they left the shelves for 1399 no tax free shipping.......yahoo. Also Tiger is actually pretty good yeah some people have problems but I never have.....actually owned by Systemax where they leveraged their buying power and started a resale site. Much like Newegg started by ABS computer.

You are right! Yesterdays deal is now sold out! I ordered my 734 yesterday morning. My order now says it is on backorder though. Hopefully it won't be to long. I did a little research on tigerdirect and they seem to have very high reviews from what I found!
Thugzie 11-23-07, 07:09 PM Does the 733/734 have the same anti-glare screen as the 833? Can't see many other significant reasons to pay more for the 833...
Yes on same anti-glare.
Only significant reason to buy the 833 is if you're into gaming PS3 Xbox360 xtc. It's not that the 733/734 can't run the gaming systems the 833 just runs them flawlessly.
Quick questions if somebody might reply or redirect me to a more appropriate spot. My father-in-law had a two year old 73732 that went through two light engines, so Mits decided to just give him a new 73733 as a replacement.

Starquester 11-23-07, 09:32 PM I too got the 65734 $1399 deal through tigerdirect last night.. I was researching this forum for hours last night and the price disappeared from amazon when I was about to checkout, so I hightailed it over to tigerdirect and picked it up. :) I also grabbed a Onkyo HT-S894 for $399 so I don't have to rely on the TV's speakers. The HITB already has a tracking number, but the TV is backordered like previously mentioned.
I'm sure the onkyo will leave a bit to be desired, but it'll be fine until I can build my system back up again with four of my old 18" Tumult's or 18" RE XXX's...

Take heart Starquester, got an email from Tiger mine was shipped today! Motivation to get the basement back in order pronto. This TV is replacing my old Mits that was lost to the great rains of April. Never had a drop of water in my basement/home theatre room in 20 years. That and about $15K of electronic toys and furnishings, including a brand new HD1000 Mits projector I was testing that was found floating in a foot of water. Took it completely apart dried it out....fired it up....it works! That was supposed to be used on an electric screen which drops down in front of the TV, nice man cave. Home theatre should be back in business by Xmas.

The 733 is 12-18 months newer then the 73732.
The 734 is the same as the 733 w/ the exception of a few minor functions. The biggest different is the 734 has "dark detailer". Even though I have the 734 I could never tell the difference in the store between the 733 & 734. In most cases the 734 is $200-$300.00 more then the 733.
IMO if Mitz hooked him up with the newer 73733 your pa-in-law got a nice deal. That was nice of Mitz to do that for him. You pappy-in-law should be happy with his new TV. Good Luck.
Z06_Pilot 11-24-07, 08:08 PM Hi folks,
I saw somewhere in the thread that the 73734 can accept 24fps material, BUT my question is, can it display 24fps material?
I am trying to decide between a Toshiba A3 or A30 HD DVD player. the difference being that the A30 outputs 1080p/24fps..
thanks!
Jeff

Cool to hear your 65734 is being shipped! What time of the day did you order yours for the $1399 deal? I ordered mine from Tiger at 1:42 pm. Eastern time.
Mine is on backorder. Hope mine ships soon, because my theater room will be finished just before Christmas!

I ordered the exact same tv and Onkyo as you! My tv is also on backorder, but Onkyo is on the way. I have no idea if Onkyo is good, but it had good reviews everywhere I looked. Lets hope the backorder is not long!
breeze67 11-24-07, 11:44 PM Here is where I got my extended warranty over a year ago.
Thanks for the great info!

I ordered at 6:08am EST... Hopefully they refill their stock early next week, that'd be cool. :)
You should be pleased with the Onkyo, as it'll be very hard to beat for the price.. ;) I'm more of a DIY audiophile personally, but I plan to move the Onkyo to my bedroom or computer room when I get a chance to rebuild my LLT sonotube's with two or four 18's..
YourNameHere 11-25-07, 02:10 PM Purchased the WD-Y657 from CC thinking it was the 734 only to find this thread and now I know it is not the 734.

Thanks.

Try one of these. There might be more.
- one call (no spaces)
- Vanns
- 6ave
They comarket via Amazon.com and you can compare prices from there. You can also go to their website as some of them offer specials (HD DVD player or remote at a bundled price - e.g. Vanns)
Tigerdirect had a killer sale price on the 65734 for Thanksgiving, but that's over and it's backordered.
Costco online also carries the 65734 ($2199), but it's more expensive than the ones above and comes with a 2-yr warranty and a 90-day full refund policy.
I bought mine from one call along with stand and 5-yr service plan. Excellent service.

YourNameHere 11-25-07, 06:29 PM I love my WD-Y657. What's wrong with yours?
I am not sure there is anything "wrong" with it but the 734 has several features like SharpEdge, DeepField and PerfectTint that the 657 does not and the prices are basically the same.

Those features, along with the price, of course, were what drew me to the 734.
maverickbp 11-25-07, 08:13 PM Well I am now the proud owner (well will be Thursday) of a 73734. Walked into Fry's for thier black friday sale and long story short...ended up walking out the door with it for $2799. It wasn't on sale but the guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Plus the Mitsubishi credit plan with 2 years no interest no payments sweetened the deal. If naming the price I got is not allowed please delete. Also picked up the 5 year extended warranty and matching stand.
Just thought i'd let everyone know that it seems Fry's has changed their extended warranty plans as of this last Friday. Apparentely they now cost twice as much with NO bulb replacement. I got lucky that the old warranty was still purchaseable in the system cause a $900 extended warranty that doesn't even cover 1 bulb replacement isn't gonna happen.

Ha! Well not having those fluffy features has no effect on my viewing pleasure. If your 657 looks great to you and runs quiet, why bother? Oh .... that's right, because folks here say it is inferior. I say if you have a keeper, keep it. The 734 you have shipped in from x.com may have a problem and then what do you do. I'd wager that any "expert" here saying the 657s image is inferior couldn't tell the difference visually if they came to my house. My edges are sharp, my tint is great and I'm not quite sure why I need Mitsubishi's exclusive DeepField dynamic contrast and brightness when I can set it and forget it.
Maybe I'll post some pics of my WD-Y657 and dispel the critics.
maverickbp 11-25-07, 09:28 PM I somewhat agree with your post buddy. However it falls back on the old saying "ignorance is bliss". Not saying you're ignorant by any means but I wish I was. If I had seen the Y657 or 733 by their lonesome I would've been totally happy to have that set as my own. However i've seen both of them side by side a 734/833 and now I can't allow myself to get the Y657 or 733. Which sucks because Fry's had a GREAT deal on the 73733 this last Friday that I just couldn't get myself to buy because I knew the 734 had a superior image to me and was right there staring me in the face. Now of course everyone's eyes are different but mine tell me that once i've seen a 734/833 there's no way i'd be happy with a lower grade set. It seems that is the conclusion most have come to on this board and that's why they preach what they preach.
jayhawksean 11-25-07, 11:52 PM i was all set to buy this (65734) on Amazon for $1899 with free shipping until i saw the deals folks were recently getting in this thread. i guess i'll hold out. i can probably make it until early next year, but being so close makes it much harder to wait. heh.

Anyone with a 57734 notice what looks like a white reflection spot in the middle of the screen when the TV is off?
Not really an issue, seeing I can't notice anything while viewing.
Just curious. I thought it was a weak reflection from a light, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Probably the flightlight effect people have been talking about. Try searching for flashlight in this thread and the *833 thread.
My 73734 has had a problem since I bought it. The video will freeze randomly, then come back on, but sometimes not. Sometimes tapping the side of the TV breaks the freeze. Duration of the freeze varies, ranging from 5 minutes to indefinitely (at least hours). Sometimes it doesn't freeze for hours on end. Other times it will freeze, unfreeze, freeze, and unfreeze in a long frustrating loop.
It does it with all inputs, all resolutions, all sources. Audio does not freeze. All other commands work while it's frozen. I can turn off the tv, change inputs, do anything, but the frozen image remains no matter what is done. If the TV is turned off, it comes back on still frozen, but with a blank screen. Hitting "Menu", which should be independent of inputs, does not appear when the image is frozen.
Tech came by once already, with another call in to him. He said it sounds like a connection is loose (seems reasonable) and took off the back and secured some connections. Problem seemed to be lessened for about week, now it is worse than ever.
I know I should swap it, but I brought it home myself with out-of-town family help, so that option does not appeal.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Yeah but YourName...you also got the Mitsubishi stand with your 657 didn't you? I went looking in Costco in CT for a stand for the 734 I was lucky enough to get on Tiger. Then I discovered that the 400 dollar stand was included for the 1800 selling price and not sold seperately. I don't think I'd worry about it too much still a good deal , no? Unless of course your Costco doesn't have the same deal. Bet you can't tell the differnce at home between the two. Even so your like me....I would lay awake at night repeating over and over in my mind,SharpEdge, DeepField and PerfectTint,SharpEdge, DeepField and PerfectTint ,SharpEdge, DeepField and PerfectTint ,SharpEdge, DeepField and PerfectTint ..........
ps Tiger also had the Toshiba A2 HDDVD for 169 for a few hours......

My 657 did not come with a stand. I purchased a stand separate. Looks like I might end up getting the 734 from One Call. Frys has it for $1699 with $45 shipping but they say no returns on big TVs. At least One Call allows 30 days so I might just pay a little more knowing I can send it back if I have to.

Careful. I don't think one_call's return policy on big screen TV's is that liberal. Better understand the t's and c's and their definition of defective. Call them and discuss after reading their return policy and exceptions off their website. I recall they were pretty clear about that when I placed my order.

Ken Brown 11-27-07, 09:26 AM A little help anyone, First time here. But I have a question and maybe someone could at least send me down the right path.
I have a Mitsubishi WS65813, I cannot get it to reset. I have unpluged it for two days and still nothing. Any suggestions?
ButtfaceLicker 11-27-07, 10:51 AM Hey Ken, go to techlore dot com and search for this issue. A moderator Larry Dillon will send you the correct documents that says how to fix it.
I own a 65813 and had the same problem you do and it was an easy fix. Mitsubishi used some really bad/cheap capacitors in the DM module and they're shot. So you gotta just spend like $4 and get four new 16v 1000uf 105C caps and swap those old ones out. Tons of people have this issue and are fixing it within 2 hours easily. I got mine working again and it's going to my parents :) Bought the 65734 yesterday...

Yes, I have noticed this as well. Only when the TV is off. My "guess" is that it is an internal "lamp" that has not powered down all the way and is showing up on the screen when no video feed is present.
Different similar issue: WHEN WATCHING TV, I sometimes ( not often ) notice what looks like a piece of scotch tape running down the screen. Its just to the right of center of the screen. This bugs me. Its only on certain material that I see it.
Anyone else??

I bought that same TV from Tiger Direct but through Amazon. My order got canceled the next day according to amazon because of "a system glitch" .
After an hour and a half on the phone with Amazon CSRs and higher ups. I ended up getting a really good deal from Amazon on the 73734 for $2199 shipped that is supposed to be here on Dec 3rd. The problem I'm having now is finding a stand for the thing. The current stand we had would have fit the 65" perfectly but the 73 is going to hang over the edge 3" on each side. I don't know how bad that is but I really do not want to spend a ton on a stand at the moment.

REDBULL2727 11-27-07, 01:08 PM i bought a Mitsubishi WDY657 and loving it but the thing is the slight bowing issue. I tried the service menu but not sure how to use it and dont want to mess it up so if anybody can help me out how to navigate through it and help me with that it would be great :) Also i got an Xbox Elite but the HDMI it comes with my tv wont recognise it from the back HDMI ports although it will auto detect in the front one and i even bought a new HDMI lead to make sure it wasnt that which was causing it. Again i need help with this these issues so get back to me Thanx ;)
NeoAaron 11-27-07, 02:01 PM Mine is now on the road with delivery scheduled for Thursday. I can't believe our good fortune in finding this deal. I have been shopping for the last two months, and making myself wait until Black Friday sales was torture. Now that it's done, I am glad I waited. Hope your's comes soon.
I ordered mine EARLY morning 11/23 (12:30AM) and it states it was shipped out that same day. It was shipped via TRUCK and they give me a tracking number but I can't seem to track my order.
I called customer service and he couldn't track it from his system, so he gave me the phone number to Yellow Shipping.
I tried calling them and used their website and they don't have a record for my tracking number?
So, how were you able to track yours? Who's shipping it? And when did you order it if it's going to be there by Thursday?
Thanks.
knicks0819 11-27-07, 02:20 PM Mine also just shipped from tigerdirect today. Can anybody recommend a nice stand for the tv? I've looked at the matching factory stand (MB-65PB), but it's so bland looking. Is anybody currently (or going to) be using a different stand for the 65" TV that you can recommend for under $400-500? Thanks!

You might get on the net and try GETBOBO. I know it's a weird name but they are a good furniture company. I picked up a Plateau 64" three shelf stand that everyone has for $399 or more for $299 on sale. It arrives today. I'm putting a WD-73734 on it. The 73734 actually only measures 65" wide.:)

This is the stand we bought. Best Buy was selling it for $199 on Black Friday.
($319 now on their site)
While I'm still waiting on my tv to get here from TD,... my wife put this stand together HERSELF, when I was at work.
It's a VERY nice setup. Very clean and classy looking. It has 3 levels and each level can hold up to 100 lbs. Each level is 63" in length and is about 24" deep, so you have plenty of room for everything.
Seeing it in person I would pay the $300+ for it, but glad we got it for cheaper.

I ordered mine approximately midnight Wednesday, 11/21. I also got a notice on Friday, 11/23 that it shipped that day. The tracking number never showed anything at the trucking company site until late (11:00 PM MST) last night (11/26). Clearly they slapped a shipping label w/ tracking number on it on Friday, but the trucking company never got it until Monday.
Check your tracking number again. If it hasn't shown up yet, I bet it does tonight late.
Buddy C 11-27-07, 07:41 PM i bought a Mitsubishi WDY657 and loving it but the thing is the slight bowing issue. Hi Redbull, check post #908 for the bowing fix.
Have you tried any other HDMI device on the back inputs?

The map on this link will at least give you an idea of how long it will take once it is on a truck!...

mine also says shipped by TRUCK and has a tracking number.. what company do they use to ship by 'truck'? i dont think its UPS since the tracking number is too short to be a UPS number.. anybody get tracking info on theirs successfully?

They seem to use Yellow trucking at myyellow.com. At least that's how mine is coming, and someone else referenced Yellow freight for theirs. Regarding success with the tracking number, yes, it took over the weekend for it to start to register (probably because it wasn't really picked up until Monday) but it started to register mine in Yellow's system late last night.

Yeah, it's all good. myyellow.com is now showing my shipment.
Looks like they give you the shipping number before Yellow even picks up the tv.
So, looks like mine will be here on the 3rd.
minorthr 11-28-07, 10:10 AM Amazon is using Eagle to ship my TV. Last night they called our house at 9:50pm to set up delivery this coming Tuesday.
