I just wanted to get a thread started for the new Mitsubishi 2007-2008 WD-XX734 owners that are out there. I know the "65 inch model has hit the stores and there may be some of you who already have it. I'm going to be taking delivery of the "57 model as soon as it shipped out to replace my 732 that was sent back.
Please post up if you have anything you would like to say aobut the new sets.

albender 06-25-07, 04:11 PM What does this mean? You can't display a photo larger than 5 MP? 5MP digital cameras are virtually obsolete! This seems like a useless and annoying feature.

I believe you are correct it will only accept up to 5MP pictures.
no problems on mine... no weird sounds...
working as expected....
I just hate the no Split screen feature (like previous models) .... I was hopping to hook my laptop on one hdmi and see my tv at the same time....
by the way I have the WD 65734 with the MB-65PB stand and is standing on floor (no carpet or wood)

I agree on the split screen feature being taken away. They left it on the diamond models, so why not leave it on the 734's?
How do you like the stand? I haven't seen one yet. Do the colors match the TV real well? Is the color more of a black or a dark, dark gray?
Also, the spec's mention the set having "Brushed Black Metallic" accents. What exactly is that?
nc88keyz 06-25-07, 07:56 PM i want this tv ....come on sears ..get your sheetz together already.
I'm also bumed on the no split screen also. I use it a lot on my 57732 and it will be sorely missed. I also wished this set had the 120hz refresh rate also but beggars can be choosers. ;)
Any owners care to comment on the picture quality? I just want to get some feedback on PQ since this new line has the xv color and dark detailer.
Also any gamers out there care to comment on the game mode?
Also can someone check to see if the old commands work to get into the service menus.

Do these work on the new series?
I probably won't have my 57734 for a couple more weeks since my local HHGregg hasn't been stocked yet with them. Hopefully I have better luck with this series versus my 732 which went through 3 light engines.

I heard some of the 733 owners were hearing a humming sound that was very distracting but I cannot hear it unless my tv volume is all the way down. I hope its just on the 733 sets.
Thanks for the pics. Your set up looks great.
Looks to me PQ seems to be pretty stellar can't wait to get mine :D
See my edit also on the codes...I tranposed some of the #'s.
steinfire 06-26-07, 02:12 PM when are you supposed to be getting yours delivered?
when are you supposed to be getting yours delivered?
Not sure yet. Mitsubishi is scraping my old set (WD-57732) due to it having 3 light engines fail in it.
Their solution is to send me a 734 to replace it with once my local HHGregg store gets them in stock. From what they told me they should be arriving soon.
I'm curious to see what kind of improvment this set will have over my 732. I play a lot of games and I'm curious as to how the newly added game mode works with this set.
andross77 06-26-07, 03:06 PM Guys, i have a question. Should i get the old model (wd 65831) demo model that has been in my local retailer since Dec. '06 for $1840 or should i get the new model (wd 65733) for $2300 before it gets bumped up off the sale price to $2600 or $2700?
If i got the demo model i would get their 5 year no questions asked in home warranty for $300 (that covers replacement bulbs and anything else).
steinfire 06-26-07, 03:21 PM that sounds like a great deal on the 831 but make sure you get the 5 year warranty!

Check out the features on both sets and see which one is more appealing to you.
The 733 is this years low end model while the 831 is last years top end model.
It really should boil down to what you want to get out of the set.
If I was given the choice here I'd probably go with the 831 because it has PIP and also some extra connections I will be missing that my 732 had. Also with the $$ you save you on the 831 you can get yourself a nice AV receiver or an HD DVD player.
andross77 06-26-07, 03:40 PM Thanks guys. That's where i was leaning b/c it's not like i can afford the latest and greatest anyways, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing some super important feature that this year's model included. I heard about some new color thing (x.v. Color) but i don't think it affects "real world viewing" that greatly right now.

Without a question it's the 831! Mits really screwed up on the features of the new sets. So much is gone, it's not even funny.

those were with a 1080i HD-DVD player.....I think I can do better.
I like my HD-A2 dvd player but I think I'm about to return it for the a20 in the store(I will have to pay the 99 dollar difference). The a20 is 1080p and I want to see if it makes a difference on my tv.
I love this TV so far but I haven't had time to mess around with it yet. Maybe sometime this weekend. My wife said that I got King Kong in the mail today so I can't wait to see how it looks.

I've got an A20 hooked up to my 732 and the picture quality is pretty good. Just remember that when you get the A20 set up to watch a 1080p movie for the first time that you will need to adjust the color, brightness and contrast. With no changes made it will show a little washed out color and contrast wise.
Just take the time to calibrate it and you can get the picture to look pristine.
lcaillo 06-27-07, 10:14 PM Has anyone got an y calibration data from these sets yet?
HDTVRookie 06-27-07, 10:51 PM Steinfire, if you can please post some pics of King Kong that would be cool! I'm really considering this tv. On your sixth pic ...how far is your sofa chair on the left side from your television? I have a sofa that my wife positioned like that in front our current 32 inch crt tv and I'm wondering if the 57734 would be to big. Do you have any problems sitting that close to your tv?

Thanks for all of U with the 734 for your info. Does the tv remember each devices (tv /hd, SD, Dvd) picture setup? And I can not wait to hear which DVD player works the best with it.
Looking to buy a 65" 734 and a dvd player in July!
Please keep the info coming.
Thanks,
Ronder :)

Not that I know of but I used some of your instructions for my 732 and they worked out well on getting my gray scale closer to where it needed to be.
When I get the 734 in, I plan on getting it calibrated..only problem is my local guy is usually backed up for months.

Each input has its own settings so that you can calibrate each device the way you want to.
My HD DVD input is set one way while my STB input is set up another...etc.
steinfire 06-28-07, 02:51 PM I used a Cannon A630 for the pictures

I will as soon as I can. I got volenteered into taking pictures at church this week for Vacation Bible School nad we have been getting home around 9:30 every night so I really haven't had time to play with the tv yet.
I will take pictures of Kong tonight.....what scene is a good scene to watch for?
I will check on the loveseat on the side but I sat there for about 20 minutes watching the upconverted Nemo this moring while getting ready for work and I saw so many new things that I have missed before. You would think that it would be to close but it looks great at that angle. I haven't even sat in my sofa chair yet to watch......try that tonight too.
The TV is great it has and it automatically detects anything that is plugged into it and you can assign a name and the settings to that input and it will remember the settings. Also has Netcommander(don't know if the oldr models had this) but I can set up a macro function to turn on the tv, dvd, reciever and play a movie with one touch of the tvs remote. I still have to fool around with this too.

I can't believe it either! Seriously, the only thing I have touched it the "video" button on the remote that has bright, natural, and brilliant setting.........I like the natural setting the bestso far
I have one of the tv from the love seat(it sits about 9 feet from it) but the tv is still not pushed back all the way to the wall b/c I'm trying to get all the wires straight and waiting on my friend to help me move it......dont want to break it. :o

harley1 07-01-07, 01:35 PM Thanks for the pictures.
I will be taking a serious look at the 57734 in the next few weeks
steinfire 07-02-07, 09:57 AM anybody else have a 734 yet?
I finally had time to sit down and watch the first movie on it Saturday. I watched the Shooter on SD-DVD and it was great. The upconversion om my DVD player made this movie almost look HD and the scenery in it was awesome. Again, I am very pleased with this tv. I'm having Dish Network come out on Friday to upgrade my dish and box to HD and hopefully I will have some good results with this.
Update:
HHGregg called and I negotiated with them to get me the "65 so it will be here Thursday. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse :)
Anyways,
I pre-ordered Shooter on HD-DVD as well as 300.
Did you get a chance to see if the service menu commands work?

Mavic914 07-03-07, 05:18 PM anybody else have a 734 yet?
We received our 65734 on Friday night. After some concern about the whining noise that was noticeable on Saturday morning, it appears that by Monday the sound has dissipated to the point to where it is barely audible -- especially when surround sound is on.
Much like you, I have been blown away by the quality of the picture produced by the set. I went though some of my handy calibration settings on the AVIA disk and found that I had to change very little (quite a different story from my 2001 vintage Panny 47"). The black levels are surprisingly good, so I suppose that the "Deep Field Imager" is doing its job.
I have not made the jump yet to a next generation DVD, but the display of my Pioneer Elite DV-45A is so good with this set that it seems like I am watching a high definition picture. The display from my SA 8300 HD Cablebox is equally impressive. The high definition channels are like looking out a window.
Do not expect decent sound out of the built in speakers. Even my wife who has rather indiscriminate audio opinions noticed how poorly the set sounded. However, this is not a problem since we normally watch all content with our surround sound receiver turned on.
Overall, this is an awesome set. We are extremely happy with our purchase.
Kinesis 07-03-07, 07:04 PM Thanks for all the pics and info,it looks like an outstanding set.
Something I'm considering purchasing in the near future.
I was hoping someone could be able to tell me how well it would look/work with a PC hooked up to it(overscan/readable text/gaming response etc)
If anyone can do this or know anything about it defintivley?
Thanks again
P.S. also if anyone has tried any of the newer consoles with it(PS3 X360)I'd be interested in any results.

My 65inch is getting delivered on SAT!! Can't wait!
Just hope it doesn't suck like my WD52525. I bought that one in 2004 and its been worked on 3 times for various reasons. I'm giving you another shot MITS PLEASE don't fail me again!
My 65734 was delivered Monday. It replaced a 60" Mitsubishi CRT projection TV that had served me well. Obviously, the change in technology I'm experiencing is pretty dramatic. Here are my first impressions:
As far as the picture goes, it is simply amazing. I have analog cable and an in-the-attic antenna so I am getting all types of signals: 480i, SD 4:3, and HD. I haven't touched the color adjustments yet, so I'm sure the experts out there could find ways to improve the picture, but I can't. The colors are so rich and the images so bright that I feel like I've entered a new world. I had on a baseball game in HD and it was so amazing that even my 11-year old daughter who never watches baseball sat down to watch with me.
I've played around with the audio adjustments a little, but I don't think I'll be able to get the full rich sound that my old Mitsubishi's larger speakers gave me. The sound, to me, sounds like it's in a box rather than sounding natural. I guess I'll have to get a surround sound system now.
So picture fantastic, sound okay (I haven't had any of that whine noise that earlier posters mentioned) and other features about what you would expect. But there is one HUGE negative that makes me miss my old Mitsubishi. I hope someone can tell me it's just something I'm doing wrong, because it really bugs me.
I am a channel surfer. I sit with my remote and flip and flip to find something I like. On my old Mitsubishi, the channels went like this: 1,2,3, etc. On my new set, the channels go 1....................., 2............................, 3............. You get the idea. Instead of being instantly on the next channel, there is about a 2 second lag between when I push the channel up or down button and when the channel appears on screen. It is really annoying for a channel surfer like me.
So does anyone know if this is just the way digital sets work now? Is it on all sets, or just Mitsubishi's? Is there an adjustment I need to make? Will it go away if I switch to digital cable? Any input would be welcome.
So to sum it up, I absolutely love my new 65734's picture, can live with my new TV's sound until I get a surround sound system, but hate watching TV because I can't stand changing channels anymore.

No HDTV here yet, but our Charter Digital Cable box is just as U discribed at changing channels....... slow  .
Still not used to it!
Congrat on the new 734, Can't wait to hear more after U have time with it!
Well my 65734 came in yesterday. I got it all set up and immediately noticed a loud humming coming from the back of the TV. I thought maybe it would get better but after watching a few HD DVD's and some cable through the day it only started to become more noticable. When my wife came home from work she said what is that god awful humming. Needless to say I'm calling HHGregg back today and having them bring me another one...if it has the same problem I'm just going to get one of the new Samsung LED models. Plus there is a black speck in the middle of the TV that won't come loose...I'm guessing it's stuck on the lens or in the light engine. :(
I've had the most unbelievably bad luck with Mitsubishi.
What a bummer man it's such a beautiful set and my HD DVD's through my A20 looked better on this set then they did on my 57732 model.
Update: Final straw is tomorrow...they are delivering me another set. If it turns out to have a humming noise it's going back and an in store credit will be issued.

What a bummer man it's such a beautiful set and my HD DVD's through my A20 looked better on this set then they did on my 57732 model.
Update: Final straw is tomorrow...they are delivering me another set. If it turns out to have a humming noise it's going back and an in store credit will be issued.
I FEEL YOUR PAIN BROTHER!
This will also be my final try at the Mitsubishi line, at least it happened right off the bat and not a year after you bought it.
15hrs till my 65734 shows up!!
sjeffries 07-07-07, 08:33 AM Folks, I'm considering the WD-57734 and the Sony KDS-60A2020. I'm totally torn and unsure what to do. I would GREATLY appreciate any feedback in terms of what's the best set. Thanks!
The best set for you is the one that produces the picture you find most pleasing and has the features you will use most.
The two sets use very different technology to get to the same place.
Both manufacturers have had their issues with previous versions of the sets.
Probably the biggest difference between them is the use of a color wheel in the Mit set. These are mechanical devices and can tend to wear and need replacement over time. The Sony doesn't have similar mechanical moving parts in the set.
If you get an extended warranty, the only thing that really matters is the picture quality and operational features.
You'll likely be looking for another set by the time the extended warranty expires.
I am finding that not too many places have these tv's yet. I have checked sears, bestbuy and ultimate electronics and none have it (at least on their website, I may have to venture to the stores to look). Where are you guys getting yours?
Desmond34 07-07-07, 12:26 PM when are you supposed to be getting yours delivered?
Do you have the 65 inch TV? If so Im going to get that same TV stand.
I just got back from Ultimate Electronics and looked at the WD-65734. This is a spectacular tv. This only makes my choice harder now because I was going to wait until the new SXRD's came out. I never thought I would end up buying a DLP tv but I must admit this one is nice.
*sigh*
katet19 07-07-07, 08:35 PM :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Delivery Complete! My 65734 is home!
After I got the surround sound hooked up it was time to run
it through its paces:
Digital Cable: Excellent
HD Channels: WOW!
DVD: Looks Great!
Blu-Ray via PS3: Flawless!
Have not touched color adjustments because it looked great right out of the box.
Love the ClearThought Auto Sensing feature which is like plug n play.
I hear no odd humming at this point... we will see if that maintains. (Crossing fingers)
Only one bummer. I have two "black" somethings, not noticeable, unless you get right up on it. It looks like dirt, lint behind the screen. Who knows? I will live with it.
HDTVRookie 07-07-07, 09:12 PM Congrats katet19!!! I hope all goes well with your new TV!
Hi guys
just a basic question. ..Are we expecting newer models in Diamond series this year. Is 734 series better than current diamond series in picture quality??
Thanks
mani
mcalistor 07-08-07, 07:10 PM Well, I just wanted to thank all you mitsu proponents out there that finally convinced me (indirectly) to pull the trigger on a 65734 last night. It'll be a week or so - waiting for shipping confirmation.
My current 48513 has served me well for the last several years, but recently, has begun to suffer a minor bout of "burn-in". Rather than risk further injury, I've decided to force him into early retirement. Fortunately, a minor league team has decided to pick him up as a 2nd stringer which in turn left me a little more cap room to work with for a replacement.
First of all, I'm a HT novice, so my decision making process may not be entirely rational. I'm relying heavily on the expertise of the coaches and recruiters on this forum.
I went through all the motions on this one. I knew it had to be a RPTV given the layout of the room and size/budget in mind. Started on the LED Samsungs. Kept working through their lineup until I decided I had to have an 89S. I don't know much about HDMI 1.3, but I knew I had to have it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday... Then, inevitably, I went through the Sony stage, the good news, it was short lived. I saw a Sammy along side a Sony at Tweeter and it was a no brainer. I'm sure it was all in the setup, but even my untrained eyes were let down by the Sony. Then somewhere along the way, cupid hit me with a JVC arrow. JVC? Good grief, I can get a 70" for a lot less? But features... hmmm. Finally I took a long look at my star player that served me well. Those three little diamonds pulled me in and I threw Mitsubishi into the avsforum quick search... it was all over from there.
I really wish I could have afforded the 833, but hey, I'm not the Yankees.
Currently, he'll be working with a rookie HDA2 and a veteran Pioneer VSX-D608 (he was sporting DTS, couldn't get much better than that in his day). Both will be traded away within the year I think. 1080p and 7.1.... we'll definitely make the playoffs by next year.
Hopefully, practice starts next week; I'll have my recruiter post some pictures and results next week.

Looks great and great price.
jeffbarnett513 07-09-07, 12:59 AM Steinfire, I just purchased the 734 and the same stand pictured in your posts. Do you have your center channel behind the mesh? If so, how's it working out?
smittycat 07-09-07, 06:57 AM Does anyone have the 73734 yet? Or know where to find any of the 734 line in a store to look at?
I was just about to purchase the 73732, but decided to hold off until the 734's hit the store. Looks like this latest model drops some connectivity (IEEE 1394, Cablecard, etc.) but those minor losses are made up for with HDMI 1.3, Deep Color support, and the huge cut in weight and space for the 734 models.
Thanks for your input, and great pictures Steinfire!
Regards,
Smitty
Well I'm done with Mitsubishi. I had my 2nd 65734 delivered the other day and it was worse then the first one. Quality control at Mit's has to be just non exisistent. It was just as loud as the first and also has a shadow on white screens appear at the bottom of the screen.
Couple things to people looking to get this TV.
When it's delivered hook it up and listen for a noise in the back of TV by the lamp.
Also make sure you play a movie or set up the cable box before they leave to look for black specs and or shading on the screen.
Both of my sets had the whining and both of them had black specs all over the screen probably due to poor handling and dirt and dust getting in the light engine.
Other then that I wouldn't deter anyone from getting the set..it has a great picture and I'm sure some may have better luck then I have.
jeffbarnett513 07-09-07, 08:59 PM I was able to hear the whining sound on the store's display model, but only when I put my ear about a foot from it. I couldn't hear it standing up behind the TV, which made me question how I'd ever hear it sitting 12 feet away on the opposite side of the TV. Is the store environment really that much nosier or is it just a crap shoot whether your 734 purrs like a kitten or a lion?

I have been extremely happy with my 57831 bought from a local HT installer. Or it could be true as a poster mentioned that the noise on this years sets goes away after a burn-in period of a few days.
Re: shadow on white screens - is it in Natural mode or CONTRAST CRANKED COMPETE IN THE BRIGHT STORE MODE?

Re: shadow on white screens - is it in Natural mode or CONTRAST CRANKED COMPETE IN THE BRIGHT STORE MODE?
I had a 57732 and it had light engine problems where the whites would bloom. It was scraped after 3 different light engines posed 3 different problems.
My first 65734 was used for 3 days and the noise didn't get any better. It was a loud humming noise that resonated through my stand and off the back wall. It had about 3 black specs on the screen that showed on bright scenes as well. I usually have my contrast around 46 on these sets and brightness set to 28-31 on natural mode with the deep field imager off.
The replacement and or 2nd set they brought me isn't quite as loud as the first one ...it has a more high pitched dog whistle sort of sound. It also has mutlitple blacks specs on the screen, which to me seems like light engine dust. To top it off there is a smudge on bright scenes at the bottom of the set almost like someone wiped off dirt from their hands on the set. Again probably either crap on the lens and or something in the light engine. Also after looking at the set the past few days it has terrible pincushion where my cable menu looks to have a bow to it on both sides.
IMO it's totally unacceptable. Like I said earlier if you get this set and it works out for you great. However all I'm saying is make sure you thoroughly inspect the set before accepting delivery.

My 65733 also had a loud high pitched whining noise coming from the back. It could be heard from 9 feet away even with my surround sound on unless it was up very loud. The picture was beautiful, though. Someone on one of the threads used a pillow. That would look goofy next to a brand new hi-tech 65" screen. I couldn't tolerate the noise. Also the bulit in stand does not look to nice to me. It puts the tv up to high. And you can see the gap between the bottom of tv on the sides and the wall behind the tv. I instead got the 65hm167 toshiba which was 500 bucks less. It is a really nice looking picture but not as nice as the mits. And it sits flush on the stand which looks more modern.
SGRSBSKIER 07-10-07, 06:46 PM I currently have a 52525 you can hear the fan durring low sound.
Is the 734 worse than their previous models?
nc88keyz 07-10-07, 06:48 PM I just ripped mitsubishi a new hole based on the customer experience recieved at no charge when you call their customer relations department. It would be welcomed if these people had ever actually seen a Mitsubishi DLP television set, as it was like explaining it to an uneducated consumer when i used to work in the electronics retail industry.
Hopefully someone at MITS has some damn sense to contact me in regards to a very legitimate question about availability of their 2007-08 DLP lines.
Perhaps a buyer or marketing executive. After having a horrific experience with Sears and Mitsubishi product lines I still want another mits.
Hard to explain but they are good sets. 45 minutes for the second call and tier 2 support is just beyond unnacceptable for availability questions.
I would like nothing more at this point to be done with Sears and go purchase my Mits from HHGREGG or similar offerings. If they would only send me a check, I would sign something that I would never shop in their stores again...I would gladly oblige this.
Sears has over 2000 ransom credit from me and a crap selection of TVs to choose from. The toshiba is nice but very basic from what I saw. I really like the features of the 734 this year.

You could harldy hear anything on my 732.
If you decided on a 734 just hook it up and listen before the delivery team leaves. If you don't hear anything you are half way set...turn it on and look for specs on the screen and pin cushioning as well.

Tier1 is absolutely useless...with my 732 and the problems I had with it I would call them and the first words out of my mouth would be give me Tier 2.
Regardless they always took care of me though. That is one thing I must say they did a good job at.
Unless you are the type of customer that might forget to plug the set it, or put batteries in the remote, manufacturer support is totally useless.
The typical person that reads these boards knows 10 times more than the support people. Calling is just asking for frustration.
nc88keyz 07-11-07, 02:22 PM I wish the typical person that reads these boards knew a phone number for marketing at mits corp offices. Perhaps a southeast region product rep would do as well. Anyone that could tell me the rollout schedule for Sears Mits sets this year.
Thanks anyways...and I would completely agree with tier 1 in almost all companies.
steinfire 07-11-07, 05:03 PM Steinfire, I just purchased the 734 and the same stand pictured in your posts. Do you have your center channel behind the mesh? If so, how's it working out?
yes I have the center behind the mesh and it sounds great but I still hate that I can't fit my bigger "better sounding" center in the stand. Its hard to find a good sound center channel speaker that is less than 19" wide.
Someone asked about where I got the stand earlier......I bought it at Hhgregg for 299(got a deal from the guy that sold me the tv) Its 399 there now and I saw it on sale at Circit City for 379
I'm still loving my tv and I got the HD sat hooked up and all I can say is all I'm watching is HD channels.....not even looking at the 220 other channels I have. I will take some screenshots tonight

Sounds like more of a question for Sear's.
I doubt that Mits customer support would have any idea what their sales schedule is.
nc88keyz 07-11-07, 07:51 PM not really. Someone in marketing and distribution ...even a accounts rep could answer these questions. Have you tryed calling "SearsMart" lately? I rest my case if you havent had the pleasure.
Even people that work for sears state its a crapfest over there since the Kmart aquisition and Kmart runs the show.

Do you know if the sound was caused by the color wheel spinning, or the fan to cool it? Because if its a fan, I wonder if it could be slowed down.

jeffbarnett513 07-12-07, 03:16 PM I have the humming sound on my new 65734 (delivered yesterday), but I only hear it when the volume is muted. My wife wasn't listening for it and I had to hone her in on it to hear it, but then she picked it out fine.
I wish the humming wasn't there, but I don't foresee it being a problem. I think at least part of it is coming from a fan, because it continues for about 30-60 seconds after the TV is turned off.
Anyone have any recommended settings for the 734 yet? Know if the service menu access is the same as 2007 models?

On both of my sets I heard the humming on scenes where there was little sound and of course muted. If I didn't have the volume up a good amount you could hear it over the sound of the TV.
Valnar my guess is the color wheel due to the sound being a higher pitch sound emulated from say a high rpm.
The service menu's are the same. 2457 service menu and 2470 bulb hours
What I think you will find odd, is all my settings for the color temp low were set at 1024 on both the sets I received. The same could be said for high color temp as well. This is odd because my 732 was spread out between the 3 primary color settings. Either Mitsubishi didnt' take the time to calibrate these sets what so ever or the scales are different from the previous model.
My colors were off on both the sets by a good margin which I can see when I go into my bedroom and watch the same program on my LCD.
katet19 07-12-07, 10:40 PM How do you get to the service menus?
BTW My sets humming sound has stopped...yahoo! :)
leftkidney 07-12-07, 11:09 PM ok so I ppress MENU then 2457 I got that how do I move around like on a SONY I press 1 and 4 and 2 and 5 and 3 and 6 to change the value
what do I nead to know about my Mits
also does anyone have a service manual they could post as a pdf?
steinfire 07-12-07, 11:27 PM yea, I'm a newbie to the service menus...how do I get into them and what are they for?
leftkidney 07-12-07, 11:33 PM I figured out that by pressing the menu button then 2457 it opens up dut how do I navigate through the menu?
The video button scrolls you through the different fields you can change and adjust. The first settings that pop up are for the vertical and horizontal positioning of the screen. You can use the arrow buttons to move the screen horizontal or vertical.
The one thing that has changed is how to access the different test patterns while you are in there. I stumbled across it a couple times but I'm not sure as to how I did it :(
Depending on what color temp your in it will show you your RED, GREEN and BLUE gain on the next settings.
Let me search around for the detail because I'm a little swamped this morning but a good write up on it is in the 732/831 master thread.
leftkidney 07-13-07, 08:08 AM I have the 733 other than the IR thing I dont see a difference from the 734 in the manual I got is for a lot of models
I would like to see a pdf or something like that I got one for my SONY and it also has something someone made using excel that showed all the different fields
jeffbarnett513 07-13-07, 08:59 AM How do you get to the service menus?
BTW My sets humming sound has stopped...yahoo! :)
How long did it take?
Visit the mitsubishi website and look at their PDF on the 734 and 733. It will outline the differences between the two.
Off the top of my head the biggest difference betweent the two is the 733 doesn't have Perfect Tint, Dark Detailer, Sharp Edge and also the Deep Field Imager.
leftkidney 07-13-07, 10:24 AM thats not what I mean a pdf of the service menu
thats not what I mean a pdf of the service menu
I've never seen a PDF for the service menu. It's not something Mitsubishi puts out to the general public.
Hipnotiq 07-13-07, 12:31 PM I think what he means is a service manual.
You can buy 1 from Mits....just call their service parts department.
Tom Thomas 07-13-07, 05:08 PM those were with a 1080i HD-DVD player.....I think I can do better.
Hey steinfire, did you get your A20 yet? If so, does it look better than the A2? I have an A1 and am about to get a 1080p set (I currently have a 1080i set) and was wondering the same thing.
leftkidney 07-13-07, 07:06 PM yea I shouldnt have to buy something or pay someone to adjust my TV this is stupid
this info should be in the owners manual I called Mits about the image being off center and overscaned by 7% and they said I can get a repair tech out to me but since "overscan" is how they make the TV "overscan" cant be corrected WTF
I got a SONY RPTV I called SONY ahd the rep on the phone sent me an email with a pdf of the service manual
jeffbarnett513 07-13-07, 07:58 PM My 734's humming is starting to eat at my soul. In all honesty I would barely notice had I not read about it here. However, now that I know it assaults my ears during every brief moment of silence. I have almost decided on a return for another model.
leftkidney 07-13-07, 09:09 PM I called Mits and they told me they cant sell me a service manual since I am not a repair center I talked to 3 different people who told me the same thing
I talked to a supervisor and told him I am going to return this TV and never buy another Mitsubishi product again if I cant get this service manual he said NO
I have returned the TV for a JVC HD-ILA and a service manual for that TV as well
Mits lost a customer for good I will never buy another product from them again
Captain Spaulding 07-13-07, 09:55 PM Concerning the black "lint", or whatever it is some of you see behind your screen. I had one of those specks on my 57" Mits. In another thread, I read about a guy who got rid of the specks by simply "flicking" the screen with his finger right where the speck is. I thought it was silly but I tried it. I briskly flicked the screen with my index finger and I saw the speck (or it's shadow) float down and out of sight. I still can't believe it worked, but you might want to give it a try.

That's an interesting story...however I know for a fact, customers of mine have purchased the service manual from the parts department.
Obviously, you did not call the parts department.
All they want is your credit card number.
leftkidney 07-14-07, 12:41 AM no I dont think I did call the parts dept. I called standard cust care or MDEA Consumer Relations but none the less the supervisor I talked to should of known this
it doesent matter I am not that bitter over this whole thing but I will probally not buy their products not like I bought a lot of them in the past either but the TV didn't even have a PC/VGA input and the component was only 1080i the hd-ila doesent have 1080p component (I think) but it does have a VGA (not sure if ti is 1080p or not model HD-56FH97)
all in all the mits wasnt that good yea it had 3 1.3 HDMI plugs but who cares I really nead the VGA input

Boy you really showed them, huh? You can buy that service manual from about 150 different sites on the web...
*sigh*
nc88keyz 07-14-07, 10:30 AM i would not let vga be a deal breaker for you. its a dated connection. Almost every video card not has DVI and vga on them these days for as low as 20-30 bucks.
i wouldnt be suprised if the vga on the ila is 1024x768. I dont know really but its fairly common. get a dvi to hdmi cable and be happy with the 4 HDMI inputs on the mits. 3 on the back. get a 40 hdmi switch box if you need more then you have have a 5 in 1, and 2 additional. not too bad for 7 inputs. and if you have at least an component switching reciever you might have even more hd inputs via the component connects.
Everybody has preferences, but down disregard a tv because they would rather give you 3 hdmi 1.3 inputs on the back vs. a vga that did 1024x68 and two hdmi inputs. Yes I do agree that 1080p over component would be welcomed. but you cant have eveything at this size range and dlp.
KenMediaToo 07-14-07, 12:07 PM Very nice unit. Picture quality and sharpness is great, and a huge improvement from the previous CRT RPTV I was using. I am seeing things on DVD I have never noticed before, even using 480p component input.
As far as TV noise or whine, there is none, except for a soft fan noise. To hear that, I need to have a totally quiet room and place my ears behind the TV
There is a very slight pincushion distortion, mainly on the sides, only visible if you really look for it. This distortion seems to be more common as the depth of RPTV's is reduced, as it has been mentioned in several reviews of very thin RPTV's. It is totally invisible with full screen pictures, and most discernable with the 4:3 narrow picture format.
As many of the recent Mits reviews say, the most realistic color temperature is with natural/low settings. Otherwise, the color temp is way too high and the color details wash out.
However, as the other Mits reviews also say, the natural/low settings seems a bit too warm (reddish).
Does anyone have any suggestions for an initial attempt to set the perfect color-tint settings to get closer to the 6500 degree standard?
steinfire 07-14-07, 04:30 PM Hey steinfire, did you get your A20 yet? If so, does it look better than the A2? I have an A1 and am about to get a 1080p set (I currently have a 1080i set) and was wondering the same thing.
yes, I did get the A20 and truthfully I really can't tell much of a difference yet. I have been trying to compare the new picture to the old and really can't tell. I just know that the picture on a HD-DVD just looks great. I don't know if that 1080p/24 udpate that is planned will do anything but I'm still happy with my purchase....and I have the A20 just in case some updates come out that make the PQ better if that is possible.

nc88keyz 07-14-07, 09:57 PM I might have to drive to charlotte to do a pricematch when/if it goes on Sears shelves.
I have contacted sears corporate and mits MDEA tier 2.
Im usually get results when pursuing these type of requests.
I expect to hear from them this week.
Anyone heard when the WD-65833's are supposed to come out?

DoctorA 07-15-07, 09:45 PM Had to return my 734 today. Couldn't live with the humming.
when is mits going to learn we are not happy with the whining sound?
jeffbarnett513 07-15-07, 09:53 PM I used it normally for 3.5 days to see if it would go away. Today it actually seemed louder than before! It's such a shame. The PQ and price/inch is incredible. It really pained me to return it but now I'm listening for that sound during every quiet moment, and I expect that would be the case for the rest of my life with that TV.

For that very reason, and the DLP's standard RBE, the Sony LCOS is looking better for me now....

nc88keyz 07-16-07, 06:32 PM Im gonna go out on a limb here....but I dont think i will hear this whining sound over 3 tivo boxes and xbox media center client with fan at 10% and an HTPC running core2duo , 8600GTS and arctic freezer.
I just dont think I will hear it over all that, not that its that loud. it really isnt. just setting the expectation for myself.
jeffbarnett513 07-16-07, 08:13 PM I sincerely hope you don't.

Thank you sir! :)
jumperbob03 07-17-07, 12:07 AM Well I received my 65734 on saturday, and also had the the humming/whining noise. At first it was really loud, I could hear if from the next room. It is better now, but still drives me crazy. The sad thing is I love this t.v. The second one is coming next saturday, but after reading this forum, i'm not feeling very lucky. I wonder how many replacements I should try before i give up? I really like this model...

jeffbarnett513 07-17-07, 12:03 PM @jumperbob, let us know if the replacement is any better. If it's a 50/50 shot I might try another. Isn't it a shame that such a great looking set sounds like a dog whistle?
HDTVRookie 07-18-07, 09:15 PM I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but CC has the new mits up on their website. The model number is WD Y577. Is this the same as the 733 series or 734 series. Here is the link...hope i dont get in trouble for postinh a CC link?

Doesn't say it has Perfect Tint so probably not based on 734 which does. Just Perfect Color.
Shelly
nc88keyz 07-19-07, 12:39 AM true but it does have front hdmi and component. which makes it exclusive so circuit city doesnt have to pricematch :)
jeffbarnett513 07-19-07, 08:24 AM It's my understanding that CircuitCity has their own model number just so they don't have to pricematch. It's a safe bet it's based on the 733 or 734.
There is a certain big name dealer in my area that has the 65734 for $20XX.XX.
I was back in HH Gregg yesterday looking over sets again. They had a 57" model on the floor that seemed to be quite from what I could tell. I'm guessing it's hit or miss on these things as far noise in concerned.

Good enough, at least they have something new. BB is just watching... :(
bpeacock22 07-19-07, 03:50 PM Couple of remarks. I was in a speciality A/V store the other day auditioning some speakers. I have been planning to get the Sony KDS60A3000 when it comes out last August. But as I was listening the Mitsu 65732 model caught my eye with amazing PQ. I went to the Mitsu website and saw newer model 733 and 734s.
From spec sheets, the technology of the two are different and the Mitsu boast a few more PQ technologies and HDMI ports. Price is better per inch on the Mitsu's. I called the store back and he said I should wait a few weeks for a new line. Do you think he was referring to these "new" 734s or something else?
I saw someone mentioned the 833s. What recommendations would you make if I have previewed them both side by side and find them both excellent quality? (I did read lots of posts about humming as a con to the Mitsu's.)
DoctorA 07-19-07, 07:43 PM It's my understanding that CircuitCity has their own model number just so they don't have to pricematch. It's a safe bet it's based on the 733 or 734.
The feature list mentions net command. the 65733 does not have that. The 65734 does.

Hey steinfire....are you still loving your set?
yea, I just got back from vacation.....been gone since Sunday and I had been watching to on a 27 tube all week. Its was driving me crazy! I still love the TV and cannot hear the loud humming all of you guys are getting. I asked my wife to listen for it too and she says that she can only hear it when the tv is paused or the volume is all the way down.
Am I the only one that did not return this TV?
jumperbob03 07-20-07, 12:32 PM My replacement for the "hummer" is coming tomorrow, and I'm really worried. What if the next one hums too? I don't like my other options. I got a really good deal on this set, so I'll basically be paying more for smaller set if I buy a sony or a samsung. I don't like that. My other choice is to buy a toshiba at the same size and a lower price but then have to worry about toshiba not making dlp's anymore. Maybe I should just try to live with the humming sound? Am I missing any other good options? I'm just a little frustrated here....

I think you will be really sad if you go with a smaller screen size. So keep the mits if you can deal with the high pitched sound or get the toshiba. It is a nice set. I just don't think any pic will be as nice as mits no matter what you get.
HDTVRookie 07-20-07, 02:05 PM I hope you get no problems with your next one jumperbob. I'm planning on getting one as soon as they are available here in Denver. I haven't seen any 734's at CC or BB.
Tom Thomas 07-20-07, 02:36 PM I am asking for help in setting up my xx831 which is similar to the 734. I'd like the TV speakers to be off when I switch to an input that uses AVR for sound, ie., DVD. I have set up the AVR in NetCommand and have chosen it for the DVD player. When I switch input to DVD I ALWAYS have to push AUDIO and choose the AVR or the TV speakers stay on. Is there anyway to keep the AVR selected for an particular input? I had a xx725 and it worked this way with no problems.

They dont carry the xx734 at CC, here is the model they carry:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mitsubishi-65-DLP-HDTV-WD-Y657/sem/rpsm/oid/186032/catOid/-12870/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
mcalistor 07-20-07, 05:26 PM Mine has a slight hum from the fan, but I can only hear it if it is *dead* silent in the house. No high pitched sound, except for a second while the tv starts up, and my ears are very sensitive to high pitch sounds.
mcalistor 07-20-07, 05:31 PM On another note, what does bug me is the geometry. This is my first dlp set, so maybe this is typical, especially after reading this thread. It's most noticable when I have the directv guide up and I look at the horizontal line across the top of the screen. Also, a slight pincushion effect on 4:3 as others have noticed.
I came from a 48" 1080i mits crt rptv. When I got the 65", I thought it would be somewhat better and I didn't expect SD channels to improve going to a larger screen.... I couldn't have been more wrong!! PQ is amazing!!! Even on SD channels.
nc88keyz 07-20-07, 06:59 PM Mitsubishi called me back finally.
The WD-65733 and WD-65734 have been confirmed not to be available at Sears at this time. There is no orders out there from Sears.....however the very odd part is that
The Great Indoors is currently stocking the WD-65733.
The Great Indoors is a Sears company known for custom installation, theater, furniture, flooring and cabinet refacing.
Everything Sears used to do back in the 80s is now glorified in these stores on a higher end level of service and product.
I had a very lengthy conversation with One Source today. They are being very rude and telling me that in 90 days my credit will expire and I will have to start the replacement process over with sears, calling them out to my house to attempt to fix the CRT again.
They also are forcing the Toshiba 65" DLP on me still. I just dont think that tv is all that great and it scares me S@*#(*less that Toshiba will be exiting the DLP market after this set is gone.
Still Miffed, I have now called Sears Legal Department asking of my options. They are refusing to refund my money in the form of a check so that they could take care of the customer rather than remind me why I will never spend another dime with this company once this issue is resolved.
You would think it would matter to a company as big as Sears/Kmart/The Great Indoors that they please customers who spent just under 10,000 just 4 years ago when purchasing my new house. Not to mention all the other appliances. and two renewing warranties on all appliances.
One would think that if you payed your credit card off, paid the interest charges till you were blue, would just be thought as a good customer...not an idiot.
If sears would send me a check for my tv to purchase elsewhere I would consider purchasing a new washer / dryer in the next 2 years when mine will need to be replaced?
As with everything with Sears its just how much you want to fight. After 6 Nos they say Yes.
We are on No #1 on the check refund request.
I would steer clear of Sears regardless of price and financing options. This is the type of thanks and level of service they display to someone who actually really has a difficult issue with the maintainence agreement. I have never faught with any company so hard to just do the right thing
trapperjohnMD 07-20-07, 10:11 PM nice rant on sears. 1 thing to remember. Companies want HAPPY customers. If your not a happy customer, then they would prefer you shop somewhere else.
nc88keyz 07-20-07, 10:14 PM i could be happy customer not shopping at sears anymore....as long as they write me a check for 2199.99 + 7% sales tax in NC

I'm right there with you. No other 65" set produces this PQ at near this price. My next best option is a 61" with a similar price. I hate the fact the 734 hums (at least that mine did).
jumperbob03 07-21-07, 04:32 PM New set delivered today. Same annoying humming! It doesn't seem to be quite as high pitched, but it still just won't work for me. I've noticed I can make it louder/quieter by switching between standard and bright lamp modes, but even when set to standard, it's still too loud. This makes me think it's lamp related, but I guess I'm not sure. Even though I love the picture/features, I have given up on this model.
Right now I'm trying to decide between the Toshiba 65HM167, the Samsung HL-T6176S. I don't trust the LED's yet, and I don't want to buy a Sony. (My Nintendo 64 and I are still bitter!) I've noticed a lot of SSE on the Toshiba, but i've read a lot about the Samsung being made too slim and causing geometry issues, plus it's 4 inches smaller. I'm leaning torwards the Toshiba, I just hate that I got a great deal on this Mits, while it was on sale, and the Toshiba is at MSRP at my local store. But if it doesn't hum, it doesn't hum, right? I really want to be happy with my next set, I'm starting to feel bad for the store because of all these returns.

To me, the only alternative is the Sony. Samsung has a terrible viewing angle and Toshiba seems like a step down. Good luck with your decision, but don't discount the Sony LCOS TV's.
Robert
I think you will be really sad if you go with a smaller screen size.
I agree. I went from a 65H81 CRT to a 60XBR2. While the Sony has great HD (horrible SD), I miss the additional 5". Doesn't seem like much but it is pretty noticeable in my opinion.
I am considering this model for another room but will need to see how the humming problem plays out.
In the mean time, I am thrilled with my Toshiba 65HM167. Best picture right out of the box (with some User adjustments) I've ever had in my home. (It replaced a Sony crt rptv and I also have Sanyo front pj which replaced a Sony front pj.)
Don't see it as a step down but rather a sideways move. You can't beat the 65" screen and Toshiba and Mits seem to be the only players at that size.
I'd get another Toshiba but l would like to try something different, even if it is a bit more $$$.
Shelly.
Floor Model at Best Buy
They have an open box floor model WD-65731 at a local Best Buy by my house.
The unit is missing the remote control, and is marked down to a price of $1299
The picture looks pretty good, but cant really tell if there is anything wrong with it in the store.
That price seems like a steal, i'm wondering why its so cheap. it was manufactured in June 06 tho.
Havnet checked the bulb hours either.
anyone have any thoughts?
should i jump on it?
thanks!
Topshelf147 07-21-07, 11:30 PM Man, I've been reading up on these DLP's for a few months as it's time to replace my 7 year old 53" Sony CRT RP, but it seems like every set I look at his problems. I was originally looking at a 731, but after reading a lot of reports about overheating issues, I decided to pass. Then it was the HLT-89S, but that has it's own set of problems. I was really hoping the 733 would address the overheating problem and so far it seems it does, but it hums now? I honestly thought the hardest part of shopping for a new HD TV would be deciding between the beautiful looking displays, but instead it's dealing with the least offensive issue. Other than the humming, is there anything else with this set that I should be concerned with?

I would take the floor model only if it looks good, and if they will replace the bulb. If not, add $300 or so and does a new one cost that much? (the cost of a bulb)
-Robert
nc88keyz 07-22-07, 09:25 AM im not sure i would take a 731 for 1299. add if the give you a bulb maybe. But if you have to factor the bulb going in less than 12 months. then spend the 400 more and get a 734 which has been seen for 2k already at some places.
FYI, floor models go through some rough stuff. Think about when best buy cuts the power everynight on the tv wall. Do you think those dudes turn off the sets manually every night...Its being hard switched most of the time.
Also consider the great financing offers out there and the 12-24 months would allow you to get a much nicer tv broken down into very reasonable payments.
MY WS65311 was a floor model or return, but it had a gorgeous picture on it at the time, and crts are a little less troublesome than DLP.
Let us know what you decide to do.
If they bottom it out at 1099. and let you purchase a bulb it might be the way to go.
For me a 734 or toshiba for 2k is very hard to beat. less if you shop around on the toshiba

thanks for the advice.. i will most likely pass on the 731, but gonna go today to circuit city also and see what they have also, and probably back to best buy to see if they have any sunday specials.
why are the Mitsu's so much cheaper per sq inch anyway?
are they made with cheaper parts?
I just hate the "kids" at these places who I know twice as much about the sets than they do.. and I don't even know much really ;)
I have a wall unit coming Monday, so i need a TV asap. I'll keep you guys informed!.
thanks again

well, i finally pulled the trigger on a TV at Best Buy.
Sorry to the loyal Mitsu owners out there, but i went with a 61 inch JVC (i already own a JVC 56inch 720p model and love it).
so, im familiar with JVC's and like the quality of my older 720p set. so i just went with it.
got it for $1583 brand new. Seemed like a good price to me for a 61 inch 1080p unit. not amazing, but good deal i think.
Here is a link to it on amazon

What's the fix? Last I read there was still many people having issues with those sets waiting for light engine/color wheel replacements after getting the overheating problem.
bwall23 07-22-07, 11:54 PM What's the fix? Last I read there was still many people having issues with those sets waiting for light engine/color wheel replacements after getting the overheating problem. It may have been awhile since "Last you read". Wrong thread. As far as I know, none of the 2008 DLP's have the problems. These were on the <= 2007 models. The overheat warning is solved by a Mits Service Bulletin by simply replacing a connector for a thermal sensor. The light engine replacements were for blooming problems (dust related?) and the color wheel replacements are something I'm not familiar with???
You could enlighten everyone by providing links to posts for those people still waiting for the module replacements you speak of.
Topshelf147 07-23-07, 12:19 AM Yeah, my research has led me in many directions and I missed the simple solder fix for the overheating warning I guess. As far as the other issues, I'll reread the 14,000+ posts I've gone through over the last few weeks and get back to you. So that puts the Mits at the top of my list again. Now I just need to decide on which one.
nc88keyz 07-23-07, 07:42 AM sorry to take off-topic to JVC land. I just wanted to see the back of his new tv :"). call my curious.
.....AND NOW back to our regularly scheduled program
New set delivered today.
Sorry to hear that happend :( It's basically how my situation went down. The first set was terribly loud and the second set not quite as bad but more high pitched.
I would steer clear of the Samsung. That is what I replaced the Mitsubishi with. I think even though the picture IMO was better on the Samsung versus the Mitsubishi. The bowing issue with the horizontal lines is just absolutely unacceptable. My set does it something fierce. There isn’t a straight line on the TV.
I have a soft order for a Sony A3000 at my local store and when they come in the Samsung is going back for the Sony.

This is correct. 1st Mits posted a instruction to solder out a connector. Then they posted it as a part replacement (I assume they were doing the solder job until they could get the improved part in stock).
Regarding blooming....I have yet to see Mits mention anything about it.
nc88keyz 07-24-07, 08:22 PM question:
with all the complaints on the xx733 and 734 series what is Mitsubishi's stance. I cant talk to them anymore because they shut me down for spamming cause everytime I called they give me a new case number and they DO NOT i repeat DO NOT answer your web inquiry within 2 business days. Anyways I suppose 67 copies from 4 different email addresses within 10 minutes was enough for them not to talk to me anymore on the subject in question. (Sears Availablility)
Someone dare call them about the whining wheels of terror??????????
An absolutely miserable experience from Mitsubishi on the customer experience front.
I have compiled some humorous highlights from those emails.

MDEA Service
NO answers, 45 minutes on hold with tier 2. Why is this so difficult to answer with confidence?????
You sell a product to Sears. Sears sells that product to a consumer. Consumers asks customer service for support. Customer service supports customer.
Please do your job and respond to the requests that you set the expectation for resolution on.
I look forward to a call center supervisor explaining why the system for customer service and support is broken at MDEA
I am sending this to Mitsubishi multiple times to re-itterate how valuable my time is and how much I dont appreciate being treated like a piece of @#()@.

when accused of spamming this is the last and final reponse sent to MDEA.
if you had reposonded the first three times within 2 business days i wouldnt be so upset.
very poor customer service. i would suggest you read my experience before stating that i am spamming you. You sir or maddam have a job. please do it. if you cant then find someone competent to complete the tasks you fail at,
perhaps the only way my questions get answered is to bring attention that has obviously not been direct enough to find a solution.

Your cusotmer service team is really restoring my faith in Mitsubishi televisions. Was a simple answer that difficult to receive in regards to these questions? Do me a favor and dont call back unless you can answer a questions about a customer wanting to purchase one of your products. As shocking as this sounds, you would think you would be doing everything in your power to get me to remain with mitsubishi.
I am a very vocal person and my next step will be the official Mitsubishi WD-65734 forum over at www.avsforum.com where I am already a member. Customer service is such an easy formula. Just call back and if you cant do so at that time, at least set the expectation that there will be a follow up. Appologies for un-forseen delays do not hurt the situation either.
Where there is already so many complaints of noises from these sets I will be adding the fact that Mitsubishi could actually care less about their customer. How about taking some ownership of this situation and problem and finding a solution.
Gravely Dissapointed,
----All is fair in love and war and MDEA truley is a class act. Amazing that these high dollar ticket purchases yield such positive results and thanks from these large corporations. I honestly just expected more from a company I have supported many years as I have owned mits tvs, crt projection tvs, vcrs, dvd players, and even dv equipment in the past.
I may have bit their head off but I think that 7 days was plenty of time to get a verified response which led up to a call from a supervisor who had taken over the case and stated that Mits has not full-filled any orders to Sears at this time.
Even if they were researching it a courtesy call would have been expected at the least.
trapperjohnMD 07-25-07, 12:45 AM dude...your insane. No wonder they never answered your question. Which if I recall was actually an issue with Sears. ahahahah
nc88keyz 07-25-07, 01:08 AM yes and no.
Sears buys from Mits or distributor. However when you go to mits website to locate a dealer you should be able to get that information from MDEA. And it wasnt that hard someone had to send a request to marketing and that person gets in touch with rep for 3rd party retail who handles sears account and there the answer lies.
Working in retail for over 12 years in electronics I am very familiar with the process. Unfortunately someone dropped the ball on the request which yieled 67 emails re-itterating the value of my time and the 4 calls to them each of more than 40 minutes using my cell phone, my only telecommunications.
Anyways, mits isnt the same company i grew up purchasing high end stuff from. They have gotten too big for their britches in my opinion. They used to be mom and pop then circuit city and other dealers. Then circuit lost them, then circuit picked them up again. Circuit dropped Mits the first time because they wouldnt meet required margins and product availability. When Mits and circuit city decided to try again it was on circuit city's terms. Now its probally on Mits terms as circuit might as well hang it up . They lost their edge a while back.
Insane...perhaps. a concerned consumer most definately.
Dont think i didnt contact sears on the issue several times. They were even more clueless...so where is one to go for answers. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sears has 2200 bucks of mine and not much worth spending it on in their assortment. Im sore I tell ya. I bought into the warranty 3 years ago, and they are not gaining any customer service points here. Ive paid my dues and my credit card bills including the interest paid at times. There isnt enough time in the day to call mitsubishi and sears as we all have jobs if we are playing with these big ticket items.
mike1511 07-25-07, 08:36 AM Is there somewhere in Canada to get these Mitsubishi tvs? I live in Hamilton Ontario.
Thanks
harley1 07-25-07, 02:35 PM I thought Sears bought from Mits without the mfg warrenty.
Then sold the sets with a Sears warrenty. So all repairs were done by Sears for Sears without Mits involved.
Is that still the same case?
whitenoise 07-25-07, 06:15 PM "WOW" Tripple "WOW"! The P.Q. on these set are just phenominal!
the_cottrell 07-25-07, 10:27 PM Just bought a WD-Y657 from CC and am having it delivered tomorrow. I went in to buy the Y65 but they were sold out and was able to talk the manager down to only $100 more than the sale price for the newer set (Good deal...I think?). My problem is I can't seem to find any information on it anywhere. From what I understand the Y65 was comparable to the 731, so what is the Y657 comparable to? I have read that it may be a hybrid between the 733 and the 734 but nothing definite...any new information???
I had to get on here and let everyone know of my problems w/the tv and my experiences w/Mits and HH Gregg.
First , this is my 1st post here but I lurk and take in alot of info. I have been looking for a replacement for my 60" Hitachi 1080i and decided to give the Mits a try. HDMI 1.3, etc. why not, although I knew they had had some QC issues in the past.
7/14/07, I purchased a 734 from HH Gregg. Brought it home and ran it HDMI from a Denon 4806. It played fine for the first 4 or 5 hours and all of the sudden picture flickered and the lamp light came on. I pulled the manual and it said to try a reset so I did. It did it again and again and again! So first I thought let me check voltage although it's coming from a Furman power supply, so I was pretty sure not it (118-119v). I tried to run TIVO 3 Series straight to tv HDMI, same thing, then Escient unit using component thinking maybe an HDMI problem (1.3 to 1.1?), same thing, holly crap!
The next day I called the store and they gave me the # to their corporate office and they took the info and advised me since I PICKED THE TV UP MYSELF and didn't pay for delivery and setup i would have to have their servcie people pick it up. I refused as it was brand new. After 3 days of raising hell they let me bring the tv back for a new one. So after a week I took tv back MYSELF and got a brand new one. )ONE WEEK NOW AND NO TV!
Guess what, same thing! 2 IN A ROW! I called a friend of mine at an authorized service center and I walked him through the situation. We were able to figure out how to duplicate the problem using the remote, as follows:
-TV works fine until you turn it off the first time (I let the 2nd one run ALL NIGHT)
-Turn it back on again and let it run for 30 minutes or so and heat up.
-You can leave it alone and it will flicker and Lamp light comes on or---
-Change from Brilliant to Natural and bring the lamp to Low light it cuts off and Lamp light lit up every time.
He believes there is a problem with the balast or bulb in this model.
I called Mits and their service is TERRIBLE. I spent 2 hours waiting for 2nd tier support after I was told on a Sunday they didn't work and call back Monday only to be told "Oh Well, Guess It needs to be serviced!" It was almost like they knew this was an issue and were instructed to just have it serviced. No, sorry! No let's see if we can trouble shoot over the phone. No nothing! I was so ticked I refused to let their service people take it, because I was told it would probably be a test case for Mits and take weeks to fix and I wasn't waiting over a month to watch a tv I bought for the 1st time!
I then called the HH Gregg I bought it from and took it back and got a complete refund. This whole process lasted about 2 weeks and much of my time.
I can't really blame the store as they don't manufacture the unit but I will never buy another Mits product. Very Poor QC.
Another tidbit, the xx833 series was held back according to some sources and uses the same assembly, etc as this tv. Everyone just may want to be careful!
HDTVRookie 07-26-07, 12:03 AM I think it's a hybrid, contrell...I haven't gone to see them yet at CC. Does it really have 4 hdmi inputs? how did the picture look too you?
Dust Cover 07-26-07, 12:10 AM Thanks for sharing your unfortunate experience. Question for you, I was reading this from a Diamond series manual online , could not see your manual.
But did you see anything like this ?
Energy Mode (Setup Menu)
The Energy Mode option lets you select the TV’s level of
power consumption while the TV is turned off. Choose
either Low Power or Fast Power On. The Low Power
setting uses less energy, but TV power-on takes longer.
The default is Fast Power On. Keep this setting at Fast
Power On if you want to turn the tv on quickly after powering off.
The reason I ask is becuase Toshiba had a feature last year called quick start and IMO this was a primary reason Toshiba had bulbs exploding at a high rate.
IMO DLP's are not meant to be turned on and off without allowing the fan to cool off the bulb for at least 90 seconds to two minutes . My insticts tell me leave the TV on low Power and let the bulb cool off , when turning the TV on and off.
Do you recall if you were powering the TV on and off rapidly ?
I had a knowlegeable Korean Sammy tech tell me this {the TV should go through a 2 minute cycle between turning it off and turning it on}.
Also in the Diamond manual it said something about "initiializing" the TV when you first get it . I did not read that in depth, but wonder if you saw anything like that. Thanks for sharing .
I was told by my authorized service man when he did the temperature sensor fix on my 65831 that i should leave it off quick start. he said the exact same thing you mentioned. it makes perfect sense. so now i just let it take its sweet ol' time turning on. saves wear n' tear on the bulb. looks better on my utility bill also.

Low power has nothing to do with lamp.
It just means that power is not supplied to the DM. Which means the TV needs to reboot each time after you turn it off.
It still has its 1min cooldown regardless.
Dust Cover 07-26-07, 09:06 AM I know the Toshiba's had low energy going to the bulb, dont know about the Mits specifically, however having a feature called "Fast Power On" would lead an average consumer to believe for example if the TV was accidentally shut off , they can immediately power it back up. When a DLP is powered off , the fan kicks in to cool off the bulb, and if that fan is just starting to cool the bulb and you are immediately re powering the TV , me thinks thats not a good thing.
I currently have a Sammy DLP and have always practiced this. My bulb has 6400 hours on it and Ive never had a problem.
I believe features called quick start, or Fast power on are very bad idea's, and Toshiba owners who went nuts last year , would complain to the stores they bought them at. But if you think about a store , they turn the TV;s on once in the morning, and off at night, they never ever rapidly turn a DLP on and off.
pottscb 07-26-07, 09:23 AM I'm in the market for a 70"+RPTV but I've got a depth limit of 18" so the Mitsu is the only one that fits...problem is, I've seen several 65733(&734) in stores and next to the other DLPs and even LCOS and SXRD they appear a little soft (not as much subtle detail or crisp edges on leaves, etc.)...granted this was on a mass feed at 1080i but that's a large portion of what HD programming is.
Anyone else have this same experience? Is it just bad internal deinterlacing and clears up with a 1080P feed? Will the Diamond series be sharper? Thanks for any advice.

Gotta ask the obvious question. Did you compare it against other 70" screens with the same source material? Blowing up SD to 70" won't look that good anywhere. If that isn't possible, then compare a "smaller" 60-65" Mits against the other DLP's of the same size to get the general impression of the brand, scaler and deinterlacer quality.

Does the TV have to be readjusted each time after a reboot? Do you have to reinstall the input info? I am asking this as I initially had Fast Power On turned off and the next time I turned the TV on it did a reboot and I had to start from scratch to set everything up again, settings and input devices. I would like to use this feature but can't have everything vanish each time.
Hipnotiq 07-26-07, 11:23 AM I know the Toshiba's had low energy going to the bulb, dont know about the Mits specifically, however having a feature called "Fast Power On" would lead an average consumer to believe for example if the TV was accidentally shut off , they can immediately power it back up. The Mits TVs can be turned back on immediately after turning off. There is like a 30second grace period or something.
After that point it goes to a 1m cooldown period where you have no control.
And as the other guy stated above. Fast Power ON, is just a non-energy saving feature. For those lazy viewers who need their TV on quickly and dont want to wait for 1m bootup.
Dust Cover 07-26-07, 02:57 PM My point is just because a TV can do something , doesnt mean its the best thing to do for the life of your bulb. DLP Lamps will last longer if you allow the bulbs to cool off via the fan before powering it back on.
steinfire 07-26-07, 04:47 PM Wow did I get one of the only working 734s out there ? *knock on wood*
I immediately turned my start up time to low power and have been lucky so far. I love this tv! I hate that everyone is having so many problems with it and I hope I don't have to call the customer service line anytime soon.
Sorry about all that trouble you went through jheath.
Dustcover, I didn't see an energy mode?
The adjustments that affected mine were in the Vid setup.
Also, I could let the tc sit for a few minutes and then turn it back on and things would work fine for awhile then the screen would flicker and try to stay on and puff the pic was black and lamp light on again.
I swear I hat it as I loved the picture when it was on. Maybe the 833s will be better but who knows. Maybe the new Sony will be more reliable? really want a tv w/HDMI 1.3. I know it doesn't matter now but maybe in a year or two, as I also am thinking about a new Denon AVR and bluray.
nc88keyz 07-27-07, 12:40 AM i went to circuit city tonight to look at the exlusive 65" without the dark detailer.
The picture looked soft compared to the toshiba sitting next to it. Makes me double think the toshiba.
I love the component and HDMI inputs on the front.
The tv looks very washed out unless in brilliant and torch mode. water scenes on the demo loops looked sharper than the toshiba but the sports shots looked better on the toshiba.
The price is rediculous at 2900. Im assuming incorrect pricing completed by a circui city superstar.
The tv has a silver trim line on the bottom portion.
I didnt see any picture filters in the on screen menus but I had my dog in the car waiting and it was too hot to be tinking too long. I just wanted to see it myself.
I am very very glad I got to see the mits and toshiba side by side.
This tv is basically a 733 with front HDMI and component, giving it yes, 4 hdmi and 3 component inputs.
Just like the 734 without the better pictures.
My wife says....its not worth the 700-800 more than the toshiba based on displayed price ...I answered we wont be paying retail so dont worry.
I still want to see a 734 now.
HDTVRookie 07-27-07, 01:18 AM on the CC website it's way lower than the price you mentioned....I'm sure it was a mistake.
You guys may want to check pricing on the 734's at HH GREGG.
The dark detailer makes a big difference. That one component along with the perfect tint was the major difference between the 731 and 732 last year.
Dust Cover 07-27-07, 09:56 AM I think we could all save ourselves alot of trouble if we just go to Steinfire's house to watch TV :D .

I'm curious to see if the 833's will do 1080p over component.
If they do and they hit the streets the same time the Sony A3000's come out I may consider it over the Sony.

Yes, the comparison that was very obvious was the Mit. 65733 vs. sam 6187 vs. 60"Sony A2020...both of which appeared significantly sharper...even the JVC 70FN98 appeared sharper and was bigger.
As for the price drops in Mit., I assume they are exercising "price compression" to make room for their laser DLPs due out this winter.

Come on over just don't forget to bring the beer and movies......you can adjust the settings all you want I will only charge one beer per each adjustment you make. :D
I don't think I have posted up pictures of the set after I had Dish Network come and install the 622. It looks really good but not as nice as the HD-DVD's but thats not the TVS fault. I found a channel I love in the morning , I can't remember which one but it has various sunrises all over the world with the background sounds and music. I can sit my 7 month old in front of it while I get ready for work and he just loves it.
I'm counting down days until College Football starts ......I can't wait to watch the games on it!!!

Thats called Sunrise Earth on Discovery HD Theatre
I am going to pick up my WD-65734 from HHGregg now. I bought it last night for $1952 and I ended up buying the 5 year extended warranty for $399. I don't usually buy extended warranties, but since I got such a good price on the TV and the extended warranty includes unlimited bulbs, I thought it was worth it.
KenMediaToo 07-27-07, 06:32 PM Good luck to you with new TV, Vader. Mine is still doing quite well, very happy with the PQ, sharpness, and detail. Comparing the sony and toshiba in the store, I preferred the Mits to the Sony. IMO, the Toshiba contrast seemed overdone, with overly bright highlights. They are all wayyy too blue out of the box, and the Mits works best with natural/low temp color settings.
I was also concerned about RBE, but have seen none of that.
I am considering getting a SpyderTV for color calibration, just to get fine tuning done.
And as for noise, just fan whisper that I need to get right up on the set to hear.
My only gripe is minor pincushion, but I dont notice it unless I am looking for it.
Anyone yet do a measured color calibration that can provide some guidance for fine tuning the color temp?
I've got it hooked up and so far it looks great. As you mentioned, there is a little bit of pincusion, but nothing worth complaining about. No worse than any of the other TVs I looked at (and definately better than some).
I don't hear the fan or color wheel noise at all. And so far no RBE. I've tried to see it and haven't been able to.
I need to do some tweaking and will set the color temp to natural/low as you suggest.
I still need to get a stand though. It's on the floor right now. The Mits stand that goes with the 734 just wasn't big enough. I need something that will easily hold:
center channel speaker
receiver
Wii
Xbox360
DVD
cable box
I haven't found anything yet but haven't really looked anywhere beyong HHGregg and Sears.
steinfire 07-27-07, 09:31 PM That was a great deal on the tv Vader....I got the 5 year warranty too(worth it for the price IMO). Tell me how the 360 looks on this set....I have the old school xbox and I'm thinking of getting a 360 for my 6 year old and me. What size is your ceter channel Vader...I had the biggest problem trying to find a stand that would hold my good center (it was 22" wide) it would not fit so its just sitting in the garage right now waiting for me to put it on ebay. I have a center in there now but I'm looking for a good won that will fit inside a 19" (w) space. Good luck.....picking out a stand was more of a pain than the tv.
Good luck to you with new TV, Vader.
I'm trying to figure out how to set mine up....it looked great out of the box but I keep seeing where people do adjustments here and thera nd make the picture even better. I messed around with the THX optimizer on the Star Wars disc but I didn't really like the way the picture looked after that. Does anyone know what settings I can put the set on? I don't care to pay the crazy price for a professional calibration when the picture already looks great.
The 360 looks fantastic on the TV. I just tried out some Call of Duty 3, Test Drive Unlimited, and Madden. Amazing.
I have an Infinity center channel and it's about 18.5 inches wide or so. The problem I run into with the center channel is that it rules out any stand that has doors on the front. Of course I'm not real thrilled about putting a receiver and 360 behind doors either due to the heat.
kylejoseph 07-28-07, 01:58 AM I got my wd65734 today. So far I am very pleased with the TV. I don't have any noise issue and haven't noticed any spots on the screen. Note, I can hear the noise of the fan a little bit, but my air conditioner in my house is 10x louder as is my fridge/computer/etc...
I am still working on calibrating the tv, as I am pretty new to calibrating tvs.
kylejoseph 07-28-07, 01:59 AM btw, here is a picture of my 65734:

nice setup

That's the same with me. If I quiet everything down and listen for it, or if I stick my head behind the set I can hear it. But so far, under normal conditions I just don't notice it. Perhaps if the TV was in a closed off dedicated theater room it would be an issue for me. But if I had a dedicated theater room I'd have a front PJ instead of this set anyway.
PhantomOG 07-30-07, 12:49 PM the 65734 is now available from costco.com How is the price?
Can any of you who own the 734 comment on its viewing angles? Especially compared to SXRD's? I'm debating between these two. Thanks.
Blitz68 07-30-07, 01:34 PM FYI
I spoke to Mits today about buying one of the new units and they told me to hold off. They are aware of problems with the new units.
Check the U-22t from Studiotech. I am waiting for a mitsu wd65833 to put on it or a Sammy if they sort out bowing problems. Various reviews for the unit are available including one from Audioholics.

Really? Wow! Did they elaborate on when would be a good time to pick one up? I think the 734's are one of the best bang for the bucks out there right now, and if there was no humming noise on mine I'd still have it.
BigMacK1311 07-30-07, 03:20 PM The BM store has a 65" with stand on sale, but I cant tell the model number. It says 657... 31, 32, 33? I figure it's not a 34 because that costs a lot more online only with no stand... Anyone know? it boasts the 6 color wheel and x.v.color.
PhantomOG 07-30-07, 03:25 PM My B&M doesn't have any newer stuff. It's probably an older model for a much cheaper price.
The one online (65734 has x.v. color). Or did you mean the one you saw in store?

PhantomOG 07-30-07, 03:34 PM 733 is the lowest end model that has xv color I believe
After much research and debate, I got my 65734 yesterday. Plugged everything in, scanned the channels, started watching, and WOW, what a great picture. About 40 minutes later, zap. Blank screen and red lamp light, indicating lamp failure. Unplug, wait 2 minutes, plug back in, wait another 2 minutes, power button and it comes back on. 30 minutes later, flicker flicker zap, same thing. Wait 1 minute and hit the power button, everything comes back on. This continued for the next few hours, every 10 to 30 minutes it would go black with the lamp light on red, then come back on after hitting the power button 30 seconds (or so) later. Temp not a problem, power not a problem.
My question to you, is this worth even getting serviced, or should I just return it and try a new set? I really like the unit, I just want one that works. It sounds like, from the other stories here, that servicing has not solved the problem.
Thanks
I'd return it and exchange it for a new set. The two 734's I had never exhibited this problem. I had them on for hours at a time for gaming sessions and never had a lamp issue. My issue for the most part was the noise the two sets had coming from the back of them.
It seems to be hit and miss on these sets. That's why I was curious to the post above about Mitsubhishi telling customers to hold off on buying them.
MJW70,
I got two and had 2 of the same problem. Where did you get the tv from. I did notice that the 2 I got were back to back serial #s. Maybe a problem w/certain ones. Maybe get from somewhere else. HH Gregg does seem to have the best price that I can find. It's ashame b/c I really liked the tvs. Oh well!
Also,
Be aware of service. I talked w/the fac auth. center (happen to know one of the guys) and he said no way in hell would he let a NEW tv come to service as it WILL be a test for Mits. Maybe they already know what the problem is? I would take it back and POSSIBLY try another.
Oh, if the tv is running can you duplicate the failure by changing from Brilliant to Natural/Low? Mine did it every time after they warmed up for a few.
Blitz68 07-31-07, 08:53 AM The weird thing is you guys are complaining about the noise, they told me that is normal. The problem they are hearing about are TV's turning off and you cannot turn them back on.
IDK, just telling you what they told me. I am getting the WD-73734 but going to hold off. They ship on Aug 10th but will wait about a month or so to see how they are going.
steinfire 07-31-07, 10:30 AM Oh, if the tv is running can you duplicate the failure by changing from Brilliant to Natural/Low? Mine did it every time after they warmed up for a few.
When I change the settings from , Brilliant, Natural, and Bight my set changes the settings but stays on. I guess I really got lucky with mine. I just need to stay away from this thread b/c every time I come back I hear more negative comments.......still almost no positive things. Now yall are even saying that Mitsu is telling some to hold off on purchasing the sets b/c they are aware of problems.

maverickbp 07-31-07, 12:07 PM So what is the difference between the 734 and the BM sets besides the size obviously? I'm looking around and they all seem to be very similar. The 733 from BB doesn't advertise a front hdmi port but the other two seem to be very similar. Any ideas because i'd like to use the no interest financing option at either CC or BB and their prices seem competitive. I like the size of the 73' but could settle for the 65'.
WD657 at CC 65' about $2200
WD733 at BB 65' about $2200
WD734 at CC 73' about $3500

correction: hybrid cross between 733 and 734.
Not the same. The TV's made for CC & BB are of lower grade.
Do not let ANYONE tell you different.

Best Buy doesnt have a specific model that only they sell.
CC does and (at least last years model) was between the lower end model and the mid level model.
In other words, more features than lower end model and not as many as mid level model. Its common knowledge
maverickbp 07-31-07, 04:39 PM do you have a Hhgregg anywhere near you?
No unfortuneately I live in Las Vegas :(
jumperbob03 07-31-07, 10:30 PM Well I just want to give everyone a summary of my experience with my two 65734's. I don't want people to take my posts too seriously and be afraid of buying these sets. I ended up getting the 65 inch toshiba in the end and i kind of regret it. Make no mistake, the first mitsu that I got made a whining sound, and something was clearly wrong. This whining sound was just impossible to deal with. If i would have kept it i would probably be in a mental health facility instead of typing this e-mail.
But, the second one was a little different. The sound this one made was still more than just the fan, but when i turned the lamp down to low it really wasn't noticeable unless i was REALLY listening for it and the volume was REALLY low. But at this point i was paranoid about the whole thing and decided i didn't want the second set either. So i exchanged it for the Toshiba, and the toshiba is kinda loud too, but it's just the fan. So my ears like the toshiba much more than the mitsu, BUT my eyes liked the mitsu much more. Although the picture is still great, the toshiba has some pretty nasty SSE. There are pluses and minuses to both sets, but i wish i had never exchanged the second mitsu.
I have done more than enough exchanges though, and i'm going to keep the toshiba. It's a really nice set and there are some things i like better about it. (i can change channels 3X as fast.) Anyway, my point is, don't be afraid to buy these sets because of noise. I think there are some really noisy ones out there, but i would bet that most of them don't have the problem. If i had never read this forum, and would have received the second set the first time, i would have never had a problem and would be a happy customer right now. Anyway, I appreciate all the help this forum was in helping select a set, and i hope you all enjoy your tv's, and I hope they are all free of weird noises. And if you do get a good one, then i am really jealous  Hope this helps.
jumperbob03 07-31-07, 10:32 PM I just I hope I don't spend the next few years thinking about "the one that got away" :(

It seems that the CC model (e.g. Y657) has the exact same specs of 734. They also share the same user guide per Mitsubishi product website.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope that is true...can anyone else confirm? The price is nice...the features are nice...and I get to use my CC card for no interest financing :)

Last years model 731, 732 and the Y's shared the same user's guide.
However they all didn't share the same features.
Perfect Tint was the biggest thing missing along with the "Dark Detailer" that the 732 had and the others didn't.
Unfortunately, Mitsubhishi doesn't have the specs up on the Y series for this years model to see if it's a match to 734 or hybrid between the 733 and 734.
Redbird 08-01-07, 12:36 PM How do these Mits do with Standard Definition? From what I've read, I guess this is more dependent on the quality of the SD signal itself, no? Everyone posts images of HD signals and they look great but I'm sure we'll be watching quite a bit of SD over the life of the TV and I'd like to have an idea how it looks. Thanks!

The quality of the signal plays a large part. Not all channels are created equal. With that being said the SD channels on these sets are o.k. Not the best I've seen but not the worst I've seen out of an HDTV.
Clronhubbard 08-01-07, 03:01 PM I just picked up the 57in at fry's over the weekend onsale for 1599.99 and went up to 2499.99 today. I am waiting as patiently as possible for the Friday delivery. I want to watch 300 blu-ray *cry*

the 734 series have a different footprint/base than the 732 models so the older stands will fit but the tv does not sit flush with them and looks bad IMO.
I found mine at Hhgregg(I got lucky and found mine for 299 :D they do have a smaller one that is not as wide) but while I was looking saw some really nice ones at Target. I dont care to pay more for the stand than the TV cost so I stayed away from some of the higher priced ones.

My local Fry's has the 73734 ($3200) on display next to a Sam. 7288 ($4500) and JVC 70FN97 ($2500), both of which appear sharper than the Mitsu but the contrast and color sat. on the Mitsu edges the others...I guess it comes down to preference (and would it really bother me after I got it home). Why doesn't Sony try to play with the other kids too...
maverickbp 08-02-07, 01:15 PM your right....I was thinking C and typed Y
Hehe np. I'm just trying to decide if those 3 features are truely the only difference if they're enough to warrant getting a 734 over the Y series. Of course i'm considering the 73' inch model that only comes in the 734 design so my decision may end up being made for me :)
pottscb 08-02-07, 01:57 PM Hey guys,
I just read on the website of the store that starts with a "C" and ends with "ostco" that the Mitsu 734 takes a 24, 30, and 60 MHz signal. Does anyone know if this is true? I looked on the Mitsu website but couldn't verify. Are any other DLPs or LCOS 24 MHz compatible, or are all of them? I only ask because I'm waiting to see if Tobshiba goes through with their "24 Mhz output" firmware update in Sept...if not, I have have to buy the Diamond which does 120 Mhz (a multiple of 24, 30 and 60).
Thanks,
steinfire 08-02-07, 02:44 PM ^^^^^ yes, I remember finding the specs somewhere that stated that the 734 will support 1080p/24hz. That is the whole reason I took the a2 back and exchanged it for the a20....the a20 should get that firmware update whenever they decide to release it and I wanted to make sure that the 734 accepted it.
it says it in here somewhere

Yep me too. Just gotta decide if those 3 missing features are important enough and then decide between the 65 inch and 73 inch :)
tlbowerts 08-02-07, 09:58 PM Talked to mits today, was told Y657 also does not have Dark Detailer
PPGPAUL 08-02-07, 10:38 PM The PerfecTint, SharpEdge, and Deep Field imager video adjustments are offered on 734 models only was the only difference I could find in the entire owner's between the "Y" series and the "734" series. Albeit possibly big ones.
Went to C City to have a look at their 65" model(Y). Noticed the spec sheet , and the front panel decal states 'TurboLight150'. The 65733 & 34 have 'TurboLight180'. Brighter lamp?

Are you sure you was looking at model Y657, and not model Y65? as i was at C City today also and they have both models ,and the Y657 i was looking at said TurboLight180. model
Y65 has TurboLight150

You are correct. My C City only had a WD-Y65 on display. What was the price on Y657? I'll need to go back there. So the Y65 is an old model? It was $1899.
