Well, I love, love, LOVE my new 91XG. The 91XG & Winegard 8275 preamp setup are giving me consistently 90+% signals, as measured by the Tivo S3.

But my cable company just hosed me on WSYX out of Columbus! For whatever bizarro reason, they have stopped carrying 6 out of Columbus, which is huge since nearly every OSU Buckeyes football game is carried on 6, even when no other station is showing it.

So just to test, I re-aimed the 91XG from Dayton, OH to point towards Columbus, OH. The results were I could pick up all the major networks except WSYX! It turns out that WSYX 6-1 broadcasts on VHF channel 13, and apparently the 91XG yagi design will simply not pick that up.

So I'm thinking I need to mount another antenna on my mast - something for VHF. Distance is about 49 miles of reasonably flat terrain with some minor tree tops nearby. I'd rather not pre-amplify since my current Winegard only has 1 input, so I'm thinking maximum gain.

You can put two antennas on the same mast, right? Any thoughts about which one to put above or below? Do I need to maintain a certain distance between them? I'm just starting to research VHF antennas.

Thanks,
Don

On my setup I combined a Winegard VHF/UHF combo with a 91xg, tied together with a Channel Master 7777 pre-amp. That is my only experience so far with OTA reception, so I don't have any recommendations for a VHF-only antenna. There are others here that are much more knowledgeable about that. You can put both antennas on the same mast, provided they are placed far enough apart. I believe the recommended distance is something like 3.5-4ft, but since I haven't done that yet I am only going by what I have read so far. Are both antennas going to be pointed in the same direction?

No, they don't have to be, but they could be. Which is to say, I am geographically located (43311) such that I could point the 91XG at Dayton or Columbus and pick up all the major networks, except ABC's WSYX out of Columbus due to it being VHF 13.

But my initial thought was to keep the 91XG pointed at Dayton, and aim something at Columbus for VHF 13.

Thanks,
Don

I have some Funke psp 1922's(7-13) available if you want a maximum gain highband antenna.13ft long corner reflectors.Almost 15db gain on 13.I use them stacked with custom booms, but there's a pic on this link of a stock unit.

You only need about 3ft seperation between a highband and a UHF antenna.

You would add a winegard ya1713 vhf ch 7-13 antenna for about $40 spaced about 3.5' apart with the 91xg on top on the 5'mast.

the ap8275 has a single antenna input so you would need a cm0549 vhf/uhf antenna combiner or use the cm7777 preamp which has dual vhf and uhf inputs.

you will be good to go.
