I don't know if this is the right forum, but here goes. I have a built-in bookcase with a deep opening for a CRT TV. I want to buy an LCD TV that is larger than the opening. The floor of the opening is strong enough to hold a 32" CRT and I want to put a plate on the floor of the opening and cantilever out to mount the LCD in front of the bookcase.

I have not been able to find any equipment that will do this. All seem to be either wall or ceiling plates that won't work.

I can install a false wall in the built-in opening, but am not sure it will be stable enough.

You'll probably have to go with a high-end ceiling mount that has a plate and arm setup and not a typical LCD mount. You'll just mount the plate upside-down and use the arm to hold the TV. Check out Peerless or Omni. They both should make units like that.
