View Full Version : I need an original factory remote for a HK ARV 500 tanneritekid 06-25-07, 09:36 PM Anyone know where I can find one? Also what is the Model # of it? Thanks!!! Mike Kex 06-26-07, 12:10 AM Mike, there is an alternate solution, if you want to go that way: Any of the Logitech Harmonys, starting at about $80 and up will all control your unit using their massive web based database. They can all be programmed to do everything your old remote did and will also control all your other components. The 520 is the base model widely available, the 550 is also available at about $90 online and has a few more buttons, the 720 is available at Costco online if you are a member, for $150 plus tax - free shipping - and has a colour display as well as a charger. There are other models, but these are the big bargain three in my opinion. That would be one solution anyway. tanneritekid 06-26-07, 12:56 AM They will do everything the OEM would do? Right now I can not adjust my speaker levels etc. Thanks! Yes, you should be able to set up every single function you had on the original remote. Also, if you run into trouble, their tech support is excellent (although you may have to get to a level 2 tech if your issue is a bit tricky ...). Basically, once you set up the web interface, it asks you to list all your stuff and how you use it (for example, when listening to TV, does the audio come from the TV speakers or from an amp with stereo or 5.1 etc ...). After that, you can still enter each device and each "activity" (which controls all the devices needed for that activity, such as DVD Player + TV + Amp for the activity "watch a movie on DVD") and determine exactly what each and every button can do if you are not happy with the default settings. The "soft" buttons (usually 4, 6 or 8, depending on the model), use an LCD screen to show different labels for each device and activity, allowing you to add as many extra features as you could ever need (you can set up several "pages" of soft buttons if you need to, so 4 soft buttons actually means 4 x the # of "pages" or "screens" needed). Everything gets set up on your computer via the internet and then downloaded via USB to the remote. Kex 06-26-07, 10:03 AM I looked up the AVR 500 on the H/K website (AVR, not ARV, right?). You should have no trouble at all. Obviously, with that many functions on the original remote, you might want to choose a Harmony with more soft buttons, such as the 720, but the others will work fine too. H/K also sell a Harmony remote under their own brand, with 8 buttons, but some sources say that both their interface and their tech support are not as good as Logitech so I am not sure I would want to take the risk of running into difficulties. Finally, your original remote would be: - Part J54000502000 - MSRP $94.50 The website states "This part is discontinued with no substitutes available. We apologize for any inconvenience." but for that price, the Harmony models will do so much more ... Thank You!!! i looked on the web site and could not find any info for the receiver. What is driving me mad is I had 2 remotes when the receiver was in the entrainment center. Now I can not find either one, grrrrrrr Thanks for everyones help! I looked up the AVR 500 on the H/K website (AVR, not ARV, right?). You should have no trouble at all. That's really funny because H/K doesn't have own support for remote, Logitech is doing that. And software is the same, it just looks differently (branded skin). And database is the same. Kex 06-26-07, 09:49 PM Not any more: TC30 is discontinued. ... Odd ... it's still on their website, albeit for $300! LOL! It was selling for about $150 online before Christmas. That's really funny because H/K doesn't have own support for remote, Logitech is doing that. And software is the same, it just looks differently (branded skin). And database is the same. ptsenter, I do not have personal experience of this unit, so I am only repeating what I have read in some of the reviews which mentioned that part of the Logitech interface was missing for the H/K (the web based part, maybe, not the CD part?) and that the tech support was not as good. Go figure ... Kex 06-26-07, 10:00 PM I also remembered this, ptsenter, from CNET reviews: The bad: The remote could sit a little more securely in its dock, the Web interface may intimidate nontechie users, and the TC 30 works only with Harman Kardon's desktop software, not Logitech's Web-based interface. Which would echo what I just wrote above about the CD based software only. I always go straight to the web with Logitech remotes and don't even open the CD sleeve. |
