I'm trying to wrap my head arount this whole HD OTA thing. If I have a tv with HDTV built in, what do I need other than a capable antenna to receive OTA HD channels? Do I need a receiver or digital tuner in addition to the antenna.

Please help, I'm very confused.

You need an ATSC tuner either built into the TV or external and the proper UHF and/or VHF antenna to receive your local broadcasts, that's it.

You need an ATSC tuner either built into the TV ...
... which he would have if his TV is indeed "HD built-in".

Awesome, yes the TV I'm looking at does have the ATSC tuner built in!

Thanks to both of you for your help

Since you have an ATSC tuner, check the Over The Air digital TV reception FAQ sticky in this forum. It should have links to answer some of your initial questions.
Check www.antennaweb.org as a starting point for your digital local stations.

If you need help with selecting an antenna, post your zip code and your circumstances - live in a house or condo/apartment, on a hill or in a valley, surrounded by trees or open fields, rooftop or attic mount an option. We can look up your stations and see if you need only a UHF antenna or VHF/UHF antenna for starters.

Now a days www.tvfool.com gives more up to date results compared to antennaweb.. For me antennaweb didn't list all the channels. I am getting... however, www.tvfool.com did list all the channels.. and they factor in the terrain and other factors..
