Hey,

I have been looking around and have found so many choices without reliable comparisons between products for QAM tuners / capture card with qam tuners, I was wondering if you guys could give me some help.

My school offers unencrypted QAM channels and I would like to be able to receive them but I also want to setup one of my computers as a htpc. Now, i was wondering whether i should go with a seperate qam tuner and a seperate capture card or a capture card that already has a qam tuner..... If anyone could give me suggestions on setups or point me to helpful reviews I would appreciate it. Thanks!

You need a capture card with a QAM tuner for the HTPC. A separate tuner and capture card will cost more and restrict you to SD resolution.

wouldn't it work if i fed the cable into the tuner then into the capture card...? And If i were to go the way you are suggesting... any suggestions? I am open to MCE, linux... anything pretty much...

If you used an external QAM tuner, you would be limited to capturing only SD resolution, no consumer grade capture cards that can accept HD feeds yet. Get yourself a QAM tuner for your HTPC.
