I have just connected my Mitsubishi HD1000U to my Toshiba HD-A20 HD DVD player with a new 25 foot, 24 gauge HDMI cable from Monoprice.com. Having read various posts on this forum it appears that the HD1000U will accept a 1080P signal despite the fact that it is not specified to do so. When I set my HD-A20's resolution output to "Up To 1080P" and play a SD DVD both the HD DVD player and the projector are telling me that the signal being outputted is only "1080i". Does anyone know if the HD-A20 can up-convert to 1080P or is this only for HD DVD output? If the player can upconvet to 1080P then why is it that all of my equipment is telling me that the signal is 1080i?
Thanks,
Hugh
As far as I know, the best you can get out of the Mits is 1080i. As far as I know, even upscaled, the PJ is only going to display up to a 1080i image.
Try 1080p from a 6 foot HDMI cable. HD1000u is finicky at 1080p and needs a strong signal but possible. I doubt you will see a huge difference between 1080p or 1080i or 720p to the Mits which is 720p native.

Why would you ever upconvert an SD DVD to 1080p? You are scaling the image twice (to 1080p and back down to 720p) which makes the picture look worse. You should only be upconverting to 720p.

I am glad you said this. My original plan was based on the logic that I should send my 720P projector a 720P upconverted signal. Just to experiment I took the suggestions of others on the forum and tried all of the output settings to see what looked best. For whatever reason when I output the signal at 1080i from my HD-A20, standard definition DVDs look much sharper then when the signal was outputted at 720P.
Is it possible that a 1080i signal would be stronger than a 720P signal over a 25 foot, 24 gauge HDMI cable? Could this discrepancy be due to the cable length and signal strength?
Thanks for the help,
Hugh

It may be that the HD-A20 either has problems scaling to 720p or has problems deinterlacing the upscaled image. You got good advise, by the way. It's always better to try everything and judge with your own eyes.
whenever I go to watch a dvd on my Toshiba HD-D2, my mits HD1000 takes along time like >5min to have a picture. I have audio but I have to wait along time and then the picture appears, does anyone have this problem? should I up grade firm ware?
